Prologue
History of the War

Wisdomi was floating through his usual areas of space, commonly thought of as his laboratory. He slowly moved breezing past the nebulas and stars that felt like hot bubbles on his body. He slid through space holding himself steady as he back floated deeply through the clouds. Lifting arm back over head after another he swam easily gliding through space. He thought of how it had started and where they had come to, an interesting calm took him as he collected his thoughts to meditate. How had the war begun… it was so long ago, so long that most of the others couldn’t even clearly remember it. He himself had difficulty as the ages rolled past. Too many abstraction of conflict convoluted his thoughts, but slowly he remembered. The first of his kind had formed when the different planets had finally formed SNA (Sentient. Natural. Alkaloid.) It was a long process that took billions of years. The planets and stars getting pulled into black holes began mixing, crashing into each other creating levels of temperature far exceeded what naturally could occur. The interesting elements formed mostly bestial shapes at first such as the devourers, hulking forms of mostly copper planets matching with two red dwarf stars holding their massive bodies together. Being fairly common these things now float through space still eating anything in their path more action than animal. Like giant mouths with teeth the Devourers are. The razor sharp fangs surround its gaping jaws, with a body that rolls back like a cornucopia. It moves with its flagella like tentacles pulling it through space ever towards more planets to eat. They survive on any matter they can eat including each other as they bite first and think it through later. These along with the Mantas, and Monkus where the earliest of the predominant species. There were of course many others but these are what we consider the best things so best to talk about them.

Mantas are huge long undulating creatures they have massive flat bodies with fins on the sides of their shoulders. They move in flat arching strokes of their single tails, which are barbed with a furious spine that secretes venom so powerful that it could kill the Devourers. They were soon the Devourer’s favorite snack and along with planets became a necessity for life. They feed of the nebula clouds sucking in huge clouds of gas and breathing it through their gills. From this they nibble on the metals inside of planets and use their jaws as egg breakers to split and devour the hard matter planets. They quickly became the object of food in the universe including for the last great species, our ancestors the Monkus. The Monkus were the first more formed creatures, although different in appearance they usually had a small head that came out of the torso like a formed ball, and had appendages that moved them such as fins, legs, and tentacles. However they had a separate set of arms that could be used for other tasks, and so they started the building of tools from the planets and the arrangement of structures. Small by comparison with the Mantas or Devourers, they tried to survive the hellish attack of the devourers on their main food the Mantas, and more importantly now with them building the planets that the devourers would choke down in single bites.

This lead to the hunting of the devourer’s and the creation of the Demonkus, as the devourers couldn’t compete with the new tools being created by the Monkus. It was so successful that this lead to the evolution of tool Monkus hybrids, they were faster and more deadly but much more simplistic than the Monkus. The Demonkus were initially allies of the Monkus the two benefiting each other’s needs of one another, the Monkus organized and Demonkus were the muscle. This lead to a prosperity and safety from the Devourer’s that had never existed before. That is when the real building began. In contradiction the irony of this is that the more planets they used to build with the less were there for their prey to consume, and so the numbers of the Devourer’s and Manta’s shrank and shrank until there were so few that the Monkus and Demonkus were starving. Yet this woke a unknown element from slumber, the first beings may have been Monkus but the spirits who created the Mantas and the Devourer’s were ancient by this age existing since the creatures had been nothing but small animals eating Nebula gas bubbles, and one hundredth the size of a planet. They were furious with the reckless killings that had occurred because of our negligence and tried to find a way in which to reach out to us before we destroyed ourselves. The answer came in using the forms they had created as certain planets had become overgrown with life. The Devouring of a certain species of animals in a great enough number would induce a trance like state in the Monkus, although this was also tried with the Demonkus they were unable to create a link as their brains were more set up with more primal wiring. This species called itself Man or Mana as the Monkus called them, and although thousands were needed to be consumed to create the vision, their petite nature and size made them unable to utilize space which inevitably left them vulnerable to the changes of temperature and composition of the planets they lived on. Because of this the Monkus declared them to be sacred and that only for good reason and for only the chosen few the vision would be utilized.

They called a large assembly in the center of the owned territories and had each group sit and experience the mana. This was thought as the best way to organize the use of it, however this also lead there to be a division in the Monkus even of who could and could not consume the mana. So the greatest thinkers of the age were given each one cities worth of a mana filled planet, and the effects were staggering, not only were the Monkus completely incapacitated but they were seeing things that were not visible to the other Monkus let alone the Demonkus, and then after much waiting the first Monkus Wisdomi the wisest of the Monkus came back to reality.

However when he came back into the regular plain, he caused much distress. He said that the spirits were angry and if they didn’t rebalance the food around them to their numbers that they would let them starve out of existence. The Monkus immediately started planning restoration and as each prophet returned they continued to call for the same idea. However the Demonkus were not amused, and in fact thought that this concept of balance was lacking. Their leader Domoki stated, “We are the only creators in this world, and we are the only ones capable of hunting these things they are for us, and we should do as we please. Why should we believe you that these things even exist, we could not see them.” This took the Monkus back who were already starting to try to figure out how to help produce more Mantas from their breeding Nebula clusters.

Wisdomi replied, “They are real and you can see them however they are at such an existential level of reality that we can’t perceive them in entirety. Could you tell me that all the nebulas in a cluster had thought, or that they would allow their children the Mantas to consume them? They told me this and that every bit of reality down to even the smallest points of reality past the mana even have conscious behaviors. And as for being the only creators we destroy things already created to make new things, that is augmenting not creating and this is where our greatest problem lies.”

Many of the others came back with the same impression, even if they had not talked to the spirits an impression of the damage they were causing was exuding from their experiences with mana. The Monkus in usual form immediately began discussing how to handle these new revelations as a group and coordinating a thought through lifestyle to create to adapt. This is how they had always resolved problems that arrived going back to the first of their species. They would discuss the level of the problem, ask if they could affect the outcome, and then discuss the impact that their decisions would cause into the world. This tradition had passed down the ages and even the Demonkus had grew to respect the process.

However, this time was different, and it was a point of landmark conflict, the Demonkus had respected every action played out by the Monkus council as it had always gone poorly for them when creating their results. But this concept of withholding even from hunting at times, was so far outside of their natural behavior that they refused to accept the choice. As this was outside of the primal everyday thoughts that the Demonkus were used to and instantly it created a conflict. The end of the congregation proved to be pointless, as the Monkus trusted Wisdomi and so started actively working to preserve the Manta’s and began to try to learn to live harmoniously with the Devourer’s. However the Demonkus not excepting anything that was said as they believed it was all fabricated and non-coherent still continued using planets in a fast pace and continued killing the Devourer’s.

The rift had been formed and the Monkus were now fearful, as the Demonkus and their excessive processes were radically out producing the Monkus. They were almost double the population of the Monkus and so something had to be done. Even worse the Demonkus running out of space in the areas they choose to live in, were starting to raid the Monkus territories as they were stocked with Manta’s and unused planets. That is when the war started, terrible war that pitched unappreciated into a torrent of uncontrolled chaos. Where once they had taken advice from each other the younger Monkus and Demonkus grew to hate one another.
