Fear is a natural instinct, a subset of the survival instinct in fact but that fear is not always rational. When a tiny man is up against a Tiger or a Shark then that fear is the correct response...so why do so many have borderline panic attacks when they see insects?
Spiders are one of the most common causes of screams in a household and one of the most irrational of fears, sure some of them can bite and kill you, but all one has to do is step on it...
Fear is not just something an animal feels when threatened by a predator but also when it comes across something it can't understand or something its not familiar with. Though a tiny creature like a spider is hardly a mystery in its mechanics.
