Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use harsh acids or commercial rust removers blindly, as some included minerals (like calcite or iron) can react poorly or dissolve.
Protect from impact: Store it separately from softer or harder stones in a cloth pouch to prevent chipping its rugged points and edges.
Energetic Cleansing: Safe methods: Because it is quartz-based, you can cleanse it safely using smoke (incense or sage), sound bowls, moonlight, or brief rinsing under cool running water.
Caution with prolonged soaking: Avoid long water soaks if your specific specimen has heavy water-soluble mineral inclusions or matrix attachments.

Tourmaline is characterised by the vertical striations of its crystals. The colour range is extensive, including pink, red, blue, green, violet, yellow, black and colourless. Bi- and tri-coloured specimens are common. My favourite variation is watermelon, which has a pink core, surrounded by a green rim.
Tourmalines' properties vary according to its colour. Black: protective, shielding against unwanted energies, and prevents others draining ones energy. Green: transforms negative energy to positive, attracts abundance and success. Pink: treats emotional pain, loss and fear. Watermelon: powerful effect on the heart chakra, aids in understanding of situations, treats emotional dysfunction.
Physical properties also relate to the colour. Black: arthritis ; Green: weight loss, chronic fatigue, asthma; Pink: heart, lungs and skin; Watermelon: heart and lungs.
Care: It's different from colour to colour.
Green Tourmaline: Unload once to twice a month under running water and load under the sun.
Black Tourmaline: Regularly unload it weekly under running water and load it for 2 hours in the sun
Blue Tourmaline: Regularly unload it once a week under running water and load it in the sun
Pink Tourmaline: Regularly unload it under running water, but better not load it in the sun
