How many of the deadly sins have you broken?
Now i'm not talking about cardinal sins, i'm on about the big seven:
------XoX------
• LUST (Latin, luxuria) (fornication, perversion) —
Obsessive, unlawful, or unnatural sexual desire, such as desiring sex
with a person outside marriage or engaging in unnatural sexual appetites,
or depraved thought and unwholesome morality.
(Dante's criterion was "excessive love of others," thereby detracting from the love due to God).
Associated with the cow and the color blue.
-XoX-
• GLUTTONY (Latin, gula) (waste, overindulgence) —
Thoughtlessness and waste of everything, especially food, drink, or intoxicants.
Marked by overindulgence, misplaced sensuality, and depriving of others
("excessive love of pleasure" was Dante's rendering).
Associated with pigs and the color orange.
-XoX-
• GREED (Latin, avaritia) (covetousness, avarice) —
A desire to gain more than one has need or use for, in money or power.
Associated with the frog and the color yellow.
-XoX-
• SLOTH (Latin, acedia) (laziness, indifference) —
Laziness; idleness and wastefulness of time allotted.
Laziness is condemned because others must work harder to make up and you are
abandoning the will of God. It, like gluttony, is a sin of waste, for it wastes time.
Sloth is a state of equilibrium: one does not produce much, but one does not need much either
(in Dante's theology, sloth is the "failure to love God with all one's heart, all one's mind, and all one's soul"; specific examples including laziness, cowardice, lack of imagination, complacency, and irresponsibility).
Associated with goats and the color light blue.
-XoX-
• WRATH (Latin, ira) (anger, hatred) —
Inappropriate (unrighteous) feelings of hatred, revenge, or even denial,
as well as punitive desires outside of justice
(Dante's description was "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite").
Associated with the bear and the color red.
-XoX-
• ENVY (Latin, invidia) (jealousy, malice) —
Resentment of material or spiritual possessions of others.
(Dante: "Love of one's own good perverted to a desire to deprive other men of theirs").
Associated with the dog, and the color green.
-XoX-
• PRIDE (Latin, superbia) (vanity, narcissism) —
A desire to be important or attractive to others or excessive love of self
(holding self out of proper position toward God or fellow man; Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor"). In Jacob Bidermann's mediaeval miracle play Cenodoxus, superbia is the deadliest of all the sins, and leads directly to the damnation of the famed Doctor of Paris,
Cenodoxus. Associated with the horse, and the color violet.

I could admit to all of them! Is that wrong, does this then make me a bad person?
Who really cares about the seven deadly sins anymore do they have a position in todays society? Do they still apply? Just how many people today like me have broken these "Deadly Sins"? I'm not a bad person, i know restraint, i care for others, I have never been in trouble with the law i was a straight A* student. No problems No major Deviancy, But still i have commited these sins.
------XoX------
"O bsessive, unlawful, or unnatural sexual desire, such as desiring sex with a person outside marriage or engaging in unnatural sexual appetites" And? So? What was then
condemned "Unnatural Sexual Appetites" then are more than likely not now.Homosexuality was condemned by the church, but now even they are coming around to accepting it.
Changing with the times. Even Masturbation was considered Unnatural by the church!!
Fetishism then, well that now has become mainstream, not so much frowned upon more
than eyebrow lifting "Oh aye! Into that are ya!". Everyone Lusts, its acceptable
in todays society, is it not more unnatural to not Lust?
------XoX------
G luttony, "Thoughtlessness and waste of everything, especially food, drink, or intoxicants." Hmm... "Marked by overindulgence" Who hasn't. I have Binge Britain, We like our booze! As does everyone else, go out on the weekend with friends, have more than a few drinks Had a laugh, little dance, More drinks then later...Even more drinks. Whats wrong with it Enjoyment, working hard to earn money, paying your bills, taxes. You want to go out and unwind Have a good time with friends. "Excessive love of pleasure" Lol Don't enjoy yourself too much Go out have a good time IN MODERATION. Well yeah i do like 5 or 6 days out of the week, i am an upstanding citizen. In todays society its work hard play hard everything moves so fast. I don't find anything wrong in breaking from restraint every now and then. Its not like we're killing people in the name of religion, Derka Derka Lets go kamikaze! Does gluttony still apply?
Excess drinking, eating. The majority of the population falls into either or both categories.
A fat priest! "Big boned i swear" yah, right SINNER!.
------XoX------
G reed "A desire to gain more than one has need or use for, in money or power." Who wishes they had more money? Always just a bit more than they have, more than that person, just a bit more. Or even more power To be above others Admins Room moderators. Everyone does, you want to be rich, Every payday you go check your balance and wish you had just a bit more in there. Power, if you just had the power to do this do that. People to look upto you, just a bit more power than you already have. Greed!
------XoX------
"L aziness; idleness and wastefulness of time allotted" Sloth, i laze, put things off.
There are more uselful things that i could do with my time. Instead i waste it do
nothing of any significance. Who doesn't though who doesn't have lazy days, Just go on the net sit idle. I'm sure if you're reading this then you do!! Watching television is that not a waste of time? Sitiing in your room listening to music? Sitting in a Pub? "specific examples including laziness, cowardice, lack of imagination, complacency, and irresponsibility" More than a few people can admit to any or all of the following at one time or even in their life. More than likely you can think of a moment or memory that involves one of the above!
------XoX------
"I nappropriate (unrighteous) feelings of hatred, revenge, or even denial, as well as
punitive desires outside of justice" Keyword there "Feelings" not actions Ever been wronged? Bullied? Cheated on Mistreated in general You want revenge, you feel hate anger. You want to do them wrong, you want to hurt them for hurting you. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" oh yes, you've felt that wrath, at one point in time. Sure its unrighteous wrong even but still. In a way even christians in their two-facedness they say that they forgive if they are wronged, that wrath is a deadly sin but then they console themselves in the fact that God will judge them, they will get their come-upance. Gods wrath... The holy deity breaking a Deadly sin! Does that not say it all!!
------XoX------
"R esentment of material or spiritual possessions of others. " "Ooh that looks sexy, i want that." As a child growing up wanting something that a sibling has, everyone has felt this. Envy! One of the easily attainable sins. Everyone, EVERYONE must have felt this at one point in their lifeit happens so quickly so easy to grasp one glimpse thats all you need and Bang! you feel it deep inside it boils up Envy i think is one of the more afflicting sins, its very strong and most of the time you can't really stop it Envy! To try to stop it would be pure denial. I have felt Envy on more than a few occassion at the most simplest of things maybe just an action from someone A touch can cause envy, wanting what someone else has, from material object to even emotions physical contact anything and everything.
------XoX------
"A desire to be important or attractive to others or excessive love of self." Pride
Arrogance a love of yourself, i'm ashamed to say i have when you go get dressed up nice to go outeverything is perfect no spots to dead ends no blemishes marks anything its just right you take pride in your appearance you feel in that moment happy about yourself in that respect i see no harm wouldn't it be worse to loathe yourself to hate yourself? A desire to be inportant to people everyone wants that they want to be appreciated for the most part to have people want to listen to what they say to have fans groupies!!!! to be attractive to others, everyone wants to be noticed to have someone say that they adore them, theat they find them the most beautiful creature they have ever seen. whats wrong with it its wanting sure, but so what everyone need to feel wanted it gives them a sense of importance to want to better themselves. To not care what anyone thinks of you would indeed be a great accomplishment and if you succeed in doing this tell me how. We might fool ourselves into thinking that we don't care. Black sheep and such. but there are moments fleeting moments when we want to break down when we want a bit of attention. We put a mask on as to not appear weak you cannot break me. But in the darkness reality hits like a tonne of bricks and it feels rather bad! Pride, we should all indulge!
------XoX------
S o do these sins still apply in modern society? When so many are broken daily? Should these be the deadly sins we should never break. Sinners for indulging in them. And sinners in whose eyes? God? He is the biggest sinner of them all. Should they be there as more of a guideline excess of any will be your down fall? or as strict rules Never break these your mortal soul depends on it. Or, should they be forgotten all together, have they been forgotten already? Are they so wrong? Are they Deadly sins? I don't think they are for us. Not in todays society. I believe we should enjoy ourselves have fun, but not at the expense of other to keep their feelings in thought i think this is more important to get on with people rather than limit your emotional evolution follow strict guideline of how to live what you must and must not do. There are more important things that we have to deal with now. Rape, pedophilia terrorism, Wars.
------XoX------
I ask this though Would the world as a whole be better off Sticking closely to these Deadly sins World leaders politicians THE CHURCH etc.
Or Would it be better if we were to accept these sins into modern day life and not smear them as wrong but accept that we do and will have them and the moral inplications of feeling them and taking action on them. Would we be able to live better with ourselves if we were to understand and accept them rather than deny their existence and beat ourselves up over them if we were to feel them?
