Chapter 1

In The Dead of Night



I was lying in bed not able to sleep because my parents had been fighting again. I lay under the covers not sure what to think of the on going argument down stairs. This was going to be a interesting story to tell Kelly when I get to school tomorrow I thought to my self as I laid there still hearing the arguing of my parents. I rolled over and looked out the window into the dead of night the moon was full that night it almost light up my room but my room was still dark the light purple blanket that is was using to keep worm swallowed me hole. I finally heard the front door shut in a loud bang meaning dad had just left on one of his I-can’t-stand-it- here rampages and going to see his girlfriend that he was cheating my mom with. I really could care less I didn’t see why she put up with him at all if I were her I would of left him a long time ago. But any time I asked her why she stayed with him she would always say he was never like this he was always open to me and never keep stuff from me like this. Then she would cry until she fell asleep on the couch and dad would come back in around 3 in the morning and would be all lovely dove with her like nothing happen. I slowly closed my eyes and feel into a deep, deep sleep I have never sleep than t bad before. When I was sleeping I had a weird dream. I was at a waterfall out in some weird forest I had no clue where it was but it was the grass was so green and the waterfall glistened but the re was one thing I noticed it was night. But it was so beautiful the grass being so green and the waster being so clear and simmering in the moonlight. The tree that sat beside the small creak was tall and the leaves where so full of life it was unreal because all the other trees were not as vibrant and full of life. As I stood there in awe I heard a voice behind me say “hello what brings you to my meditation area?” before I was able to turn around I shot up awake from the buzzing of my alarm clock. It was already 6:00 in the morning I rolled over in my bed not really wanting to get up I thought about just faking it sick but if I did I wouldn’t have anything to do today except for be bored. I got up slowly uncovering my self to the brisk cold ness of my room in the morning. I wasn’t sure what the think of the dream I h ad that night it still surprised me I was really wanting to know who that person was and what he meant my his meditation area. I just surged it off hoping that it would just pass over I could her mom and dad doing their usual routine of fixing breakfast with out arguing. I got up and gathered up some clothes to go and take a shower. As I opened my door I could smell dad’s famous bacon and mom’s great pancake on the stove the aroma mad my mouth water. I quickly horrid to the bathroom to get a quick shower. I turned on the hot water and the mirror started to fog from the steam of the waster. I quickly striped of my clothes and slowly got into the steaming hot waster it, it stung my back nut felt good at the same time. I washed my hair quickly as the aroma of breakfast started to flow into the room. Suddenly I heard a nock at the door, “Saniya breakfast is done.” My mother called from the other side of the door. I turned the water off and quickly got dried my self off and got dress. I went to put my night close back into my room instead of in the laundry hamper because I knew they would lose them if I stuck them with everyone else’s. As I was about to walk out of my room I thought I heard someone call my name in a light wisher it sent a chill down my spin. I turned to see if someone else was in my room but no one was there but a strong scent was in my room it smelled really good almost like a guys cologne but I was probably just imaging it. Then my father called for me, “ Saniya get down here before your mom eats it all.” My dad had some sarcasm in his voice and I could hear my mom laughing at his cute little joke. So I just ignored the strange scent in my room and rushed to the also smelling good kitchen where mom and dad had a tone of food laid out. My mouth watered as I looked at the gorgeous breakfast that lay before my eyes. I walked over and hugged my dad form behind and kissed his cheek and did the same to my mother. I sat down in front of my plate that they had placed for me out on the table. I looked at the food in front of me in awe my mouth was watering as I reached for some of the bacon I could tell it had just come the skillet only because it was still sizzling on the plate I. I grabbed 3 pieces of the delicious looking bacon, and then I headed for the pancakes. I grabbed 3 pancakes and put butter on the top of each one of them then dosed it in syrup. This was the only time that my parents weren’t fighting over something I think that they only did it for my sake but I’m not sure it was hard to tell they just seemed so happy in the morning. “ So are you going to school to day or are you staying home?” My mom asked as I looked up at her not sure of what she meant. “ Well ya I do have school today right or is there something going on that I don’t know about.” I looked at them both with one eyebrow raised. They looked at each other with big smiles on their faces. “ Well Saniya did you forget what today is or have you forgotten.” My dad said as I looked up at him with a confused look on my face. “ What is today cause I really have no clue what your talking about what is it you guy’s 17th innovatory or something and I just don’t remember it?” I looked at them with the funnies face they have ever seen and they just busted out laughing.

“Well sweetie it is your great 17th birthday or did you forget your own birthday all ready?” My mother said with a giant smile on her face trying not to laugh at my shocked expression. I had forgotten that today was my 17th birthday, no wonder why mom and dad were acting so nice to each other. They were always nice when it came to my birthday and on my birthday was the only time they cooked together and be nice to each other in doing so. “What are you two planning on doing today if I stay home?” I asked them as I took a bite out of my pancakes. They looked at each other and smiled widely. “ Well Saniya we had a surprise for you today.” My dad took his gaze of my mom and over to me I knew something was up and there was something they weren’t telling. The next thing I knew was the doorbell ringing. Mom jumped up and rushed to the door dad watched her leave knowing what she was about to do. I sat there looking at dad eating my breakfast a little quicker to see what mom was up to. “ Sweetie slow down other wise your going to chock.” My dad chuckled as he said his words. I finished up my breakfast and jumped up from the table and walked to the living room where mom had darted off to in such a hurry. As I turned round the corner I felt a cold chill go down my spin like someone had just blew on the back of neck. I stopped in my tracks and turned to see if someone was behind me but no one was there asides form dad still sitting at the table with his goofy I know something that you don’t grin. I turned back to face the living room to see Kelly standing there by my mother. I got a giant grin on my face when I saw my best friend standing there with a happy birthday balloon. “ SURPRISE!” my mother screamed out as I had a shocked look to my face. I was shocked to see my friend standing there I thought she would be at school by now cause it wasn’t like her to just ditch school and come see me usually she would just go and blab it all over the school. “ Well what do you think?” Kelly said as she handed me the balloon. I wasn’t sure of what to say at all I was to shocked to see her here. “Saniya are you going to say anything or are you just going to stand there dumb founded.” She said as she walked up to me and gave me a big hug. I came back to my senses right away as she hugged me. “ Sorry Kelly you just surprised me I didn’t know that you were going to miss school today that is really just not like you.” I said as I hugged her back. “ Sweetie did you forget that we don’t have school today?” I looked at her in amazement and shock at the same time. “ I guess I did forget I’m forgetting a lot of things her lately and I’m not sure why but I am it is strange.” I chuckled out not knowing why I keep forgetting things. She stepped back and I took the balloon. I glanced over at my mom who had a big smile on her face. Then my father came up behind me and scared me because I forgot he was still in the kitchen where I had left him. “ So what do you girls have plan to do today?” his big burly voice said as he walked up behind me. I jumped slightly as I turned and looked at him to answer his question. “ Well to tell the truth dad I’m not sure that would have to be up to Kelly cause I guess she is taking me some where just by the look of her face.” I said as I turned to look at Kelly who had the big smile on her face giving it away.

“ Were going to the movies and then will probably go and wonder around the mall and book store seeing as I know she is eager to go.” Kelly giggled a little at her last comment directed toward me. I just looked at her and smiled she knew me way to well. “Well what are you girls going to see?” My mother’s sweet delicate voice asked in amusement. “ Oh where going to go and see Midnight Lovers I heard that it is suppose to be a really interesting movie and that it is a vampire love story and I know how Saniya loves vampire movies.” She indicated as she looked at my mother with a giant grin on her face. My dad looked at me knowing what I was about to asking him for cause he knew how I got when it came to bookstores. So he pulled out his wallet and handed me my birthday money it was for some ode reason it was more than usual I usually got about 70 or 80 dollars a year for my birthday but come to find out my grandparents had sent me about $120 for my birthday and my dad added on with his birthday money for me so I left with about $210 I was in heaven I knew I was going to come home with a huge load of books. I turned and looked at Kelly with a big smile on my face. She could tell that she was in for a fun time. I hugged both my parents and grabbed Kelly and darted out the door. We jumped into the car and headed to the theater. As we parked I looked up at the theater door and there was a group of guys standing there but I didn’t recognize them they were just standing there in the shade of the building. They were gorgeous, they were all built and tone but I had never seen them in school or anywhere in this little town it was surprising how gorgeous they where. “ Hey Kelly look at those guys over there.” I pointed out as she was parking and not paying attention to what I was say as she tried not hitting the silver convertible beside her parked. As I turned and looked at them one of them looked like he was staring at me. He was tall and lean but built at the sometime. He had shaggy black hair that covered his golden eyes, he looked only to be about 17 but then again he looked so familiar almost like I had seen him before but form where. Finally Kelly got the car parked and we hopped out. And I could still feel his eyes on me I wasn’t sure if should turn around and look or if I should just go over to Kelly. I turned around like an idiot. I could fell a bright blush run across my face cause he was now looking straight at me straight into my eyes. I was frozen in place not sure of what to do not matter how much I wanted to I was stuck in a trance trapped by his beautiful golden eyes. “Saniya are you coming?” A familiar voice said as the trace I was in was broken. I looked over to Kelly and wasn’t able to speak. I looked dumbfounded as I looked at her and she just started laughing at my expression. I turned away from her and started to walk toward the theater not really caring to wait on her. She hurried up next to me still smiling trying not to laugh. “ So you were trying to ask me something earlier what was it?” she said looking at me her laughing fit seemed to of subsided. I looked up to see if the 4 boys were still there and they were and the tallest of them was still watching me. I leaned over and whispered to her “Did you see those guys up there near the sigh of the movies?” I pointed in their direction. She glanced over and got a good look at them. “It looks like the tall one like you there Saniya he just keeps staring at you I wonder why.” Her evil grin returned as if she was about to do something to embarrass me beyond belief like she had done so many times before. As we got to the ticket booth I noticed that the guys were standing in line right behind us. There was one that that had long brown hair that was bulled back into a ponytail he was built just about like the tallest one. Acts ally they were all built just about the same. But he green eyes that were almost like a forest, he was laughing at something one of them had said. The one that was closes to the tallest of them had shaggy silver like shoulder length hair that was fixed in certainty style that fit him. He had gorges light blue eyes they reminded me of the water from my dream I had the night before. The last one was kind quiet he had a coquet smile on his face. He had light brown hair that came down to his broad shoulders but his eyes were a different unusual honey hazel color. And then there was the shaggy silver shorthaired one whose bangs fell in to his eyes that were focused on me. Kelly not really paying any attention to me was ordering our tickets for the movie. Then all of a sudden one of the guys behind me taped me on the shoulder; I turned slowly around and looked to see who it was praying that it wasn’t the golden-eyed one. “Excuse me but are you two going to see ‘Midnight Lovers’?” I was the blonde headed boy who had asked his voice was so sweet and gentle but muscular at the some time. The other boys looked at me wondering the something but not wanting to ask. Kelly turned quickly around to face them and answer the question, as she knew I was to shy or embarrassed to answer. “Yes, that is right we are going to see ‘Midnight Lovers’ my friend here has been dieing to see it because she loves vampire romance stories, so I figured seeing as to day is her Birthday-“ she abbreviated the word ‘birthday’ “ I thought I would be the good friend to bring her to it. But if I may ask why would you want to know if we were going to see it?” She said with a little security in her voice now. “Well the reason why I asked is because that happens to be the same movie we are going to be seeing, and I was wondering if we could sit with you two lovely ladies.” He said as he took hold of Kelly’s hand and softly kissed it and a rush of red ran across her face. She was speechless for the first time ever scenes I meet her. His light blue eyes flickered up to her now redden face. She turned quickly to hide her embarrassment form the 4 boys. “I’m going to take a wild guess that her blushing and constant grinning is a yes am I right Birthday girl.” The golden eye one said as he looked at me with a gentle smile on his lips. I just nodded not able to speak only because of the trance his eyes had put me in once again. Kelly grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side so the boys could get their tickets. Kelly looking at the boys “ So which one do you think is the cuties of them?” She had a big grin on her face. “ I like the light blue eyed one but the golden eye guy is I don’t know there is just something about him that it is hard not to look at him.” I said looking at the 4 guys standing there. “Well I think the other two are the cuties of the all I love a guy with long hair but I have never seen them around here before I wonder what their names are.” She said as she looked over the 4 of them. I looked at the light blue eyed one who seemed to be looking back at me, he smiled warmly to me and a light blush ran across me cheek. Finally we got to the movie, Kelly sat by the boy with the pony tail and the other sat by him while the blue and golden eye boys sat near me but I stayed close to Kelly not to sure if to trust these guys. Kelly looked over toward me and nodded for me to ask them their names and I just shook my head and said why don’t you do it. She glared at me then she finally sighed and gave up. “ Umm… you know we don’t know your names and you don’t know ours so how about we introduce ourselves before the movie starts in like another 30 minuets.” She smiled looking at the guy with the ponytail hoping he would go first. He looked at her his dark green eyes dazzling her. He warmly smiled and brushed a light hand too her cheek sending a shiver through her body. “ My name is Thomas Cageheart and what might yours be?” his hand was cold on her cheek as she went to say her name she stuttered, “ K Kelly Lovington is my name she said her face turning red as an apple. He smiled as he pulled his hand away and sat it on the armrest next to hers. “ My that is a lovely name don’t you age Michael?” He turned looking at the boy beside him. Michael really didn’t seem to care too much about the situation it look like he had other things on his mind then worrying about names. “ Yes I guess so if you care about a thing like that.” His deep voice was hard but soft. Kelly looked over at me and gave me the hint to say my name even though she was still blushing she was trying to draw attention away from her. I sighed and closed my eyes trying not to laugh at Kelly’s expression. “ My name is Saniya Twilight. What about you two who haven’t said anything yet what are your names?” I said looking at the two beside me the light blued boy was sitting the closes to me so I made him go first. “ My name is Kurt and this quiet guy beside me is Atticus said it with a smile as he looked in to my eyes. Every time I saw his eyes I would think back to that dream from the night before it was crazy. Atticus shoot and glare over in Kurt’s direction as in warning him to not say anything farther than that. “ Well now that we now everyone’s name and Kelly is officially embarrassed how old are all 4 of you guys?” I asked curious of how old they were to how they looked. Kurt took the first chance to say something. “ Well me and Michael are both 17 while Atticus and Thomas are 18 what about you girls how old are you?” He smiled warmly at me know I would most likely be the one to tell. “ Well I’m¾” I was cut off by Kelly elbowing me in the side. “ I’m 18 and birthday girl here is now today officially 17.” She said so proudly no embarrassed anymore. I rubbed my arm where she had elbowed me quite hard. Soon it got dark in the theater and the previews came on. We sat there in silence watching the movie, there were a few scary parts in it that Kelly jumped the worse in but Thomas put his arm around her to keep from getting to scared. Kelly nudged my c me to look over at her she had the biggest smile on her face I had ever seen. I was glad that she was having fun even though this wasn’t supposed to be the whole pick up guys trip but it all worked out. Kurt was sitting very still beside me and I was starting to think that Atticus had fallen a sleep. I wasn’t really paying to much attention to the move as I was to the two guys beside me. Kurt had his arm sitting on the armrest next to mine and all of a sudden I looked up at the screen and one of the evil guys popped up out of the floor and surprised me which caused me to grab Kurt’s hand when I jumped it was unexpected to me. Kurt grabbed a hold of my and leaned over and whispered very softly to me “ Are you ok Saniya or did the big bad guy scare you.” he said with humor in his voice I looked at him then felt a pare of eyes staring at me I wasn’t sure where they were coming form but it sent a chill down my spine. I just smiled and said nothing to him to give him any kind of credit. Soon the movie had come to an end and the lights came on slowly I had forgotten that I was still holding Kurt’s hand and started blushing when I noticed it and he must have had the same problem cause he was blushing as well. We quickly let go of each other’s hands and I could still feel his cold touch on my skin. We all looked over at Thomas and Kelly who seemed to be cuddling. They finally noticed that the lights had come back and it was time to leave. Finally we all got up and left the theater none of us saying a word especially Kurt or me. When we walked out Kelly pulled out and pin and piece of paper from her purse and wrote her number down for Thomas and handed it to him. He smiled taking it from her then bending down and kissing her cheek gentle. She blush horribly this time, we all just started laughing then finally said our good byes. Kurt gently took my left hand and kissed it softly and gently with is cold lips and said farewell and to hope to see me again to tell the truth I didn’t want him to leave but I wasn’t sure if I would see him ever again. As the guys left me and Kelly stood there and watch, I noticed that as they all turned the corner Atticus turn and looked at me with an evil grin on his lips that sent a chill down my spin. “So where are we heading now oh great hostess of my birthday present day?” I asked Kelly with sarcasm in my voice. “ Well we are going to go to the mall for a little shopping. We hurried to the can and rushed to the mall, we spent the rest of our day together just hanging out there and buying all sorts of stuff. It started to get really late and the mall was getting ready to close so we gathered out things and headed for the car to go home we didn’t notice what time it was. We had been gone all day it was twenty till ten. So we hurried home, Kelly put on one of her new cds she had bought form the mall to day. On the way home we sat there and blasted out to it. About an hour and a half later we finally reach my house and all the lights were off which was kind of unusale but it was 11:30 at night so I couldn’t really blame them if they already went to bed. I told Kelly goodbye and that I would call her tomorrow when I got the chance to. As I walked up to my front door Kelly was gone, I went to see if the door was unlocked when I noticed that the door was cracked open. It was barley noticeable from a distance but up close you could tell. I slowly open the door, and poked my head in. “ Mom, Dad are you home?” I called out into the black darkness in the house I stepped into the front door thinking that they were just going surprise me for my birthday. I sat my stuff down by the door and walked over to the turn on the lights but the power must have been out. Then all of a sudden the streetlights went out and I was left in total darkness. The only light that came into my house was the light from the moon shinning in through the window. “ Mom are you here? What happen to the power?” I looked around with the little light the moon gave me. Then I heard my mother scream I rushed up to their room to see what happen and to see if she was alright and because there was no light on the stairs I keep tripping on them every so often. I finally found the top the staircase when I heard a loud smash coming form their room. I hurried to find their room in the dark, as I reached their door I heard a loud thud on the door. I went to try and open the door but it was locked which was kind of unusable I started to bang on the door to try and get them to open it then I could hear other voices in side the room. “Oh this chick taste so good I new she smelled good but I didn’t know she was this great tasting.” One of the deep voices said as I stopped banging on the door. “ Did you hear that banging at the door?” Another voice gentler voice said. I heard a loud thud on the floor then the lock on the door turned and unlocked and the door slowly open. I stood there frozen unable to move, I couldn’t think of anything I didn’t know what was going on. The door open all the way and no one was there the door was wide open there as glass on the floor form the shattered mirror that used to be on my mothers antique dresser. And there on the floor laid my dead parents bodies motionless and lifeless on the floor.
