So, there were no festivities yesterday because I am recovering from surgery (albeit incredibly), but my son brought home my favorite dessert from our city of New Orleans in the evening after a meeting he had. He actually got me early birthday present of 3 new pairs of running shoes (I'm a long distance walker but use running shoes) as well as a beautiful St Expeditus pendant - he got me that stuff last month.

I spent the day alone, but I wasn't upset... I am still riding high on gratitude with my surgery and just really still in shock that it happened to the degrees it did.

Now, back in July I exposed the details of very private info about me in upper admin messages in a state of frustration- was total word vomit and I regret very much throwing all that TMI out there. Leading up to this big one and also another one I had over the summer- I was in a a big state of dread, flashbacks... and I was just overwhelmed with all of it. It should never have been something I shared- but I am not so green around here to think that there's no way any of it got out amongst the staff and maybe further from there. It is what it is. I am not going to share any of it in my journal, but... for all of those who know what it was about- my surgeries were based on that. And I am now looking forward to a brand new life after almost a few decades of physical disarray. I can't describe how unbelievable it is that the physical part is now completely behind me. My life has been "reset". So.... nothing could have gotten me down yesterday. And I am still in a good groove today.

50 feels AWESOME.

Well, I had my big surgery Monday morning. It was quite a success. Won't get into details- but I will just tell you that this doctor has completely changed my life. It's hard to even believe that this has happened. But I am 100% whole and put together as nature intended. And shockingly, not in any pain. I'm still feeling kind of exhausted from... probably anesthesia I guess... but damn, I'll take that for sure over the kind of pain I could be (and assumed I would be) feeling now. The piano and this surgery- I am considering them both incredible 50th birthday presents.

I mentioned this to Morrigon, but... An old friend of mine here who was our church organist (and one of Cristo’s music mentors) is moving up to Indiana to a retirement community. She’s moving from a four bedroom house here into a studio apartment and can’t bring most of her things. She’s giving me her Baldwin spinet piano- they are small upright pianos. I’ve always wanted to learn and I’m considering this an amazing birthday present.

The great thing about this piano is that she purchased it from a store called Werlein’s- it was famous here in New Orleans and in business for over 150 years… It closed in 2003 because it couldn’t keep up with the Internet and other chain music stores selling instruments. But it was a store that Louis Armstrong bought his first trumpet, and Fats Domino and Harry Connick Jr bought their pianos there… so it’s really pretty great to have a piano in the first place, but it’s also New Orleans history. It's just the size I've always wanted to get- because it doesn't take up too much space.

Big surgery on Monday, turn 50 on Thursday- so no celebrating while I am not walking very well. I was told this will be about a 3 month recovery, but not to do anything really for 6 weeks more than making myself an easy sandwich. Yeesh... I am hoping I will be in the mood to do a lot of reading.

Thursday is going to suck- because I feel like this is a big deal birthday number and I'll be home alone all day and night while in recovery. I'm kinda mad about it too. I haven't had my birthday celebrated since I turned 23 in Japan.

Sunday, I am going to the store and getting myself a bunch of flowers to make my room look nice for the occasion, then on that day I'll be burning scented candles, and maybe binge-watching some favorite movies here in my room- in my recliner covered in a blanket.

I hope all goes well with your surgery and that the recovery is easy and goes quicker than predicted. I also wish you a Happy early birthday... if I lived closer I would bake you a cake and bring it to you! We would celebrate your birthday gentle style! lol.

The new Ancestry update of my ethnicity shows I have Romani DNA. This was a wonderful surprise. Although the Roma people did not invent the tarot, they embraced it like a mofo, and today- most people think of them when divination comes to mind.

So many things that draw me to that history- flamenco dance (I can't do it but I adore it- Spanish Gitano/Romani have poured themselves into this as passionately as tarot- although *also* not originating with them, many think of them first when the dance comes to mind), moving around a lot, and just feeling that sense of- I don't belong, yet people somehow find me interesting.

I'm still on a journey. I am not home yet.
