I am finally done with my Algebra home work. Damn Hindus and Arabians and their Algebra anyway.
I Love math, don't get me wrong. Numbers have a way of turning me on. Getting a huge equation right after time of toiling and simplifying, it's a huge rush.
Mind numbing...headache inducing, rush.
My birthday was depressing. I didn't get to do much of anything. Late in the night, some old friends from high school accompanied me on FB chat and we talked for a few hours.
Yesterday was a better day as a whole. I worked of course. Speaking of work, LOL OMG there is this girl that I work with. (I am fairly new btw) Anyway, She is this ... I think they call them Juggolette? An ICP fan. She is whiter than me, but she wants to be thug. She is younger than me and has 6 kids. At first I thought it was a powerful will that allowed her to breed so extensively.
I was cutting the onions for lunch and she was mixing something on the table next to me and she asked, "So whats your name baby?"
I said, "Dawna" I smile.
"I'm one of your managers" And she said it like she had been waiting all her life to say it. Her chin was tilted up and she glanced me up and down.
I said, "Oh. Thats nice. So you are higher than a shift manager?"
She stopped everything she was doing and paused. then she asked, "You got hired on as a shift manger?"
I nodded and continued cutting. "Yes."
Her eyes got wide and she rolled them back to what she was doing. About 5 minutes later, I guess she was thinking about it, she asked, "Have you had experience in management before??"
I said, "Oh yeah."
She didnt say anything else for a while. Then after lunch, i went outside for a smoke break and she was there with another co-worker. We made small talk. Then she put her purse in front of me and looked at me with...what I assumed, was a smug look. I was very confused. But then the other co-worker said, "I still cant believe you have a 500 dollar purse." And the girls says, "Well my boyfriend is so loaded."
I could tell she was wanting my approval so I said, "Oh, cool." I personally would shoot myself in the face if I ever considered buying a purse for 500 dollars. .....Ok, correction, I would shoot myself in the face if I ever considered buying a purse. Let alone a 500 dollar one.
I have a feeling she is trying to justify herself as a person to me. But I am not quite sure why, yet. What does my opinion of her matter? She does strike me as one of those people with only a highschool education who has a need to establish themselves as important in society in spite of it all. Like, she is a shift manager and will always be a shift manager and thats all that will happen in her life. But she is trying really hard to be ok with that.
Dont get me wrong. My mother only completed the 8th grade. Many people I know and love dont have higher education. But they are also comfortable with it and they dont define themselves based on that one piece of paper that says they graduated. They moved on as well rounded people.
But there are some people in the world who feel it is something negative and so they give themselves an air of unwarranted self importance. THOSE people, whether they dropped out of school or completed 15 years of college, get on my nerves. You are not your diploma. You are not your job. You are not your 500 dollar purse. All you are is the person inside of you and unfortunately, that is something most people can't put a mask on.
