We're back from our five day camping adventure. I am falling deeper and deeper in love with that whole area. I think long term we need to find some property out there and create a forever home with clean air, privacy, and quiet.
The special part about this trip was that my Mom and her husband came in their rig to join us for a few days. They're traveling up the East coast and and then making their way back home. It was nice being able to share that place with them, travel around some of the small surrounding towns, and then grill dinner for everyone.

Now I'm glad to be back home, the garden has grown a lot in five days. My lavender plant has exploded into bloom so I'm drying some cuttings for a simple syrup and we harvested a couple pounds of peas (which I need to process today). Everything is looking healthy so far, no powdery mildew or rust so we're plugging along.

I leave for Minnesota in a couple of weeks, a solo trip and I'm getting there by plane. Life is good.

I wasn't sure if we were going to receive any rain today and to my joy it is pouring out now. I cannot wait to see how the garden looks tomorrow. The day after we get a good rain is remarkable. Nothing beats natural rain water.

Elsewhere I shared a video of a bee swarm we saw in our neighborhood. We called someone to safely remove them. It was so cool how they immediately started filing into the bee box as soon as it was put down. Anyway, so I was able to get very close, they were docile and just happy to have found somewhere to go.

Someone commented that they'd never get close to bees or call them sweet like I did and I was like, dude, there are so many things more dangerous than these bees. I've been intimate with trifling men who didn't have the decency to get a vasectomy, and honey bees will never steal money from me or call my work to try to get me fired, or spend years trying to convince me I'm worthless. A honey bee never slandered a person or threatened to kill them if they moved on to a new relationship, lol. Bees are sweet. They have their code of conduct and that's all they're about.

Bees are friends.

I love how old people will occasionally gas you up about something random. I took my dog on a hike today and it was beautiful out, warm, clouds, nice breeze. As I'm walking down the path and older gentleman is biking up and he shouts as he peddles by:

Him: Everyone is wearing sunglasses but you!

Me: That's right!

Him: Alright, great!

I don't know what brought that on but I hope he had a good rest of his weekend.

Yesterday I went out to the garden to plant the last few rows of onions and I thought to myself, why not call my mom to catch up while I work? I have bluetooth earbuds and I figured if I'm having a one sided conversation people will probably realize that I'm on the phone and won't think I'm crazy.

My mom then proceeds to tell me stories about their trip to visit one of her brothers and it's like National Lampoon's Vacation with them staying as guests in the camper out back, with "sewer system" that is nothing more than a hole they dug into the ground, saxophone concerts given by my uncle while the dogs (a Saint Bernard on trazodone and a dachshund) are howling to the stray kitten someone randomly found and decided to keep in the camper, with the guests.

There's more stories but regardless, what was supposed to be a chat ended up with me planting onions while laughing hysterically as she recalled all the incredible things that happened. I finally look up and the neighbors to one side are out on their patio relaxing. Hopefully my garden cackles didn't disrupt or disturb them. >.>
