What a beautiful day and a welcome break from the cold weather. Sure it's soggy, but it's over 50 out there so we packed up the pup and took him down to the village to walk around. We finished redoing the guest room to make it more cozy for visitors and now I'm decorating the walls with artwork either made by myself or family members.

Our first guest will be my mother, in January, for a few days to just relax and hang out together. I think she'll like the changes we've made to the room.

No other news, it was a good holiday!

Glad you had a good holiday! :) I love decorating! Always so much room for creativity and making a home "your space".

Okay so maaaybe I've overdone it a bit on this injured foot because each day it's feeling worse... But that's not going to stop me from making falafel and pita bread from scratch for dinner tonight. I've been craving these two things so much but the prices of both are ridiculous so I will make it myself and end up with LOTS of extra to freeze for later.

We have a guest visiting tomorrow for a meal and movie night. We'll have home made roasted garlic bread, cold cuts, pickles, peppers, dips and spreads and some extra falafel. Our friend is a fellow foodie. :)

Painted the guest bedroom, vacuumed the living room, dining room, and basement, worked in the shop for a few hours and finalized our Christmas dinner plans. Now I need a shower and to prepare for movie night. I've been craving a god awful movie with lots of unnecessary nudity so I found one to rent. I hope husband enjoys it :}

I must have done something to my foot, it hurt yesterday but I went on the hike anyway and now it is unhappy, so that's another excuse to be lazy tonight.

Three and a half mile walk before the rain hits and then back to work. Last night we made pasta for the first time and it was good, we are very critical of our own cooking since we both enjoy it so much. Plus we watch waaaaay too many cooking shows, it's a bit of an addiction, so we see top Chefs doing incredible work and somehow expect ourselves to do it too lol

It's a good Monday.

I enjoy watching cooking shows as well, baking more-so than the cooking ones. There is a Harry Potter baking show right now that I have found myself enjoying. The cakes these people are making absolutely blow my mind!

I cannot put into words how badly I want to find 15 - 20 acres out in the country and just take all of our gardening skills to the next level, live off the land, hunt and fish and just give the middle finger to the rest of the world. I'm so tired of the dumb fucks in this country, the stupidity runs too deep, I need some peace and quiet.

Last night was a wonderful evening of connection over simple tasks. I peeled the last of our apples and we made apple butter as a Christmas gift for a friend. Then we peeled garlic cloves for a small jar of fermented garlic honey, the ultimate cold-weather companion to ward against illness in our household. That jar is also for our friend and I think I'll put some of our pickled cucumbers and hot peppers into jars as well for some additional treats as gifts.

The winds have died down so the cold doesn't feel quite so alarming now. Thankfully the pup doesn't seemed bothered by it at all and since he's now on week seven of his recovery from the broken bone, walks are something he can do again and we're grateful that he can. A six month old puppy who is used to being active suddenly confined to strict crate rest for six weeks? Not fun. Not fun for anyone.

Every day I'm in the studio working and today is no different. Every day I fight back that vague feeling that I am not doing enough. It's never enough!

The creating of homemade treats for gifts sounds so amazing! I am going to be doing the same but nothing near as extravagant as yours.... Cookies and perhaps some candies. Have to get started this upcoming week for sure. I am also crocheting a gift for my grandmother as well. There is just something so special about a homemade gift.

Sounds to me like you are doing more than enough!

No way, cookies and candies take a lot of effort, way more that apple butter that's for sure! I know your grandmother is going to love your gift to her too. :)

Thanks!

I have never made apple butter, to me it sounds like it would take a lot of time and steps. I bet yours is amazing!

Nope, just peel and core apples, cut them into small chunks and then throw them into a slow cooker with cinnamon, clove, maybe a bit of ginger too and then let it cook down. Mash it or put it in the blender and you're done! It's like apple pie filling but better and it's fantastic on toast lol

Ohhhhh I am going to have to try that one day. I have had apple butter before and love it but have never attempted to make it. Which apples did you use? I bet Honey Crisps would be really good.

I think we used Honey Crisp and Gala. These were old apples that we got from an orchard a while back. Apple butter is a great solution to overripe apples that get that kind of mealy, grainy texture. These had sat in our fridge for so long they were unbelievably sweet.
