So, I've started working out at a gym again for the first time in 8 years.

After changing jobs 6 months ago from one where I was on my feet all day running around like a crazy person to one where I sit at a desk, I started to notice some shall we say, "changes"?

Yeah, I'm getting cottage cheese thighs. My husband says he doesn't care, but what does that guy know ;-P

Also, if we're going on a cruise later this year, I kinda want to look good in a bathing suit, yes?

My first trip to the gym was this past Sunday, January 17. I did some inclined sit ups and man o man I can still feel that in my gut. Ow ow ow ow ow. But that's how you know it's "working" right? That it hurts.

I'm still going back tomorrow. I'll kick my butt's butt yet!

Blah blah, work, blah blah

The one big thing I like the least about my present job is my mother-in-law as my boss.

She talks so god damn much. She is constantly on the phone talking to people about nothing. And she has to call everyone she knows and tell them the same nothing over and over again. I hear the same story 15 times from her telling people on the phone. I want to tell her that it would be faster if she were to call a meeting of everyone so that she can tell them all the same story at one time rather than over and over again. But I don't.

She wastes all of this time on the phone and then complains about how her work is backing up. I want to say "what did you THINK would happen?" But I don't.

Someone from another branch office called and asked me what she did at her desk all day. I almost couldn't think of anything to say. Sure I had come up with a few things (and they were honest), but if you think about the amount of time it would take a normal human to complete these tasks, we are looking at maybe two hours worth of work, not eight. She spends so much time PUTTERING around and not actually DOING anything. "I've got to take care of this paperwork... but not until I've brewed some tea. And gone to the bathroom. And made some instant oatmeal. And read the headlines to the newspaper...."

When I am at work, I do work things. The company is paying me for my time to do things for them so that is what I do. I cannot stand it when people don't work when they are at work. Especially since she is the boss! What kind of an example is that to set?

Money vs Fun: a fight to THE DEATH!

So my husband and I are trying to figure out if we have enough monies squirreled away for TWO fabulous vacations this year.

For about the last five years or so, we have been going to Wizard World Philadelphia with a rotating cast of our friends. This is always super duper fun and we have a great time, especially since a friend of ours started wearing costumes, which made us feel okay about wearing costumes, and then Saturday makes you feel like a rockstar with people clamoring to have their photo taken with you. Plus, there are tons of hotels just up the road so there is zero city driving, just a short walk, and just about everybody at the con is very nice and people give things away for free and show movies sometimes and famous people have Q&A sessions. Then we take one night the lot of us hit South Street and the fantastic shops, that I love, love, love. And I'm NOT a casual shopper, either. If I go shopping, then I want something in particular, generally speaking. But South Street has such loverly stores!

The Philly Con was the perfect long weekend vacation and we have been very happy with this for years.

And then.

Well, and then, we went on THE GOTHIC CRUISE in 2008.

Man alive did that spoil us! The cruise was SO AWESOME. All this food and entertainment is just RIGHT THERE. And they'll bring you almost anything you want 24 hours a day. And you don't have to pay for anything because it's all included in the cost of the cruise, which is FANTASTIC. And every goddamned night there are goth events which are private to the goth cruise peoples. No mingling with the peasants! They have dance clubs with goth DJs and concerts with famous goth bands and a sweet goth fashion show. And all of the folks who sign up for the cruise are almost always dressed in their blackest and sluttiest that it just feels so gosh darned GOOD to get to hang out with such cool people who dress like me and know most of the same bands.

Which raised the question: which do we want to do this year??

The convention is fun and affordable.

The cruise is bloody awesome but LESS affordable.

What to do??

What else CAN we do? We do both. And hope neither of us falls prey to a terrible accident requiring all of our money in hospital bills. It's fun to be irresponsible, isn't it?
