A wish of transparency
But the glass, painted
With beautiful images
And bright colors
-distorts-
The other side
If you saw,
would you break
the glass?
Or just, walk away
Or maybe
You'd stay
-Maybe-
You'd help paint new panes
But you'd never see the temple again
You'd only see the glass
He stroked her clipped wings
Told her to believe
She could fly, he would help
If she could just conceive
Of a world for him and her
Awaiting upon the cloud
Where past transgressions waned
Where they could both stand proud
Hand in hand, he pulled her
His smile coaxing her on
Her steps uncertain
But face radiating the dawn
She spread her broken wings
Perched herself on the peak
His hand stroked her back
His thumb caressed her cheek
"I'm afraid," she whispered.
"What if I fall?"
"I'll still love you," he replied.
"Broken wings and all."
Then his lips swept hers
With one firm shove she fell
His laughter following her
To her own personal hell
Halo lost
Tossed aside
Hanging on the banister
A cheap parlor trick, she says
With a flick of her forked tongue
As she hands out sins and secrets,
Wagers lost at the devil's table
And they believe
Ignoring the light
Of the halo still aglow

When the darkness overturned is all that seems remaining,
What is left now, but a twisted, warped mind straining?
When what stains is but a dream unveiled, as if once cared,
Wherefore, now, does the price seem to end...
As the candles fall upon salt dead,
The flames should die, yet they seem to spread, instead?
What is the point of that halo, when only a symbol?
What is the point of the horns when what truly adorns
Is nothing more than theology once again reborn?
When the shadows arise again, inside, and the cage revealed
Is nothing more than a self-induced prison of the life now congealed,
The Devil has already lost his own wage,
And now, he would seek to only "even the page".
