Bloodred

Pity slips through death’s fingers like sand,

In the ocean of lost souls greed holds his hand.

The dawn born bloodred,

The wind moans the song of the dead.

War watches with its beady eyes,

Hope swallows the lump she cries.

Love sleeps somewhere in the distance,

As if it would make a difference.

Over the moaning starvation cackles his hysterical laugh,

Vultures play out his wraith.

The end is near,

The angel of mercy is here.

She turns her head,

She won’t mourn the valiant soldiers dead.

She bestows wings,

To the children caught in the middle of things.

This evil rules the heart of man,

Grasped tightly in death’s hand.

Dripping

In my heart an irritation is growing,

like a drop of water flowing

growing more impatient.

as my ears strain for that next drop,

my mind is begging for it to stop.

An ache echoes with every held breath.

in my soul search I have found,

the irritation to the sound

Crimson, seeping from the wound.

love lost keeps it open, where pain grows,

like a dripping faucet it flows

try as I may I can not staunch the blood.

My Little Girl

I took her to the doctor today,

to see if the cancer is back on the way

she laid with a quivering lip in the MRI,

I watched her spine shake as she'd cry.

I told her be brave until we get home,

then lose it all when she's alone.

inside I felt all the injustice as she tried,

damn the tears that I refused to cry.

I waged my battle as the IV went in,

cringing as the needle pushed in her skin

when she turned for comfort from me,

I showed a face tear free,

when she feel asleep in the car ride home,

I still held the bitter tears until I was alone.

the grief poured out but the tears refused to fall,

I wanted the tears for the injustice of it all

She goes on with her life mostly intact,

I pray to God take the cancer back.

Yesterday

Dust devils dance on furrowed space,

aged tears fall staining his face.

So many years spent working the land,

The dry dust slips from his wrinkled hand.

Abandoned buildings crumbling like dreams

the tears flow in streams.

Memories of long ago from a distant past,

Stay just out of his grasp.

He bows his head in defeat,

The breeze kicking up dust at his feet.

If only youth would have held on a little longer,

If only he was a little stronger.

“ Come on pop it’s time to go.”

He calls back with out turning, “I know.”

With age comes progress life goes on,

Even after the memories are gone.

Though his heart feels sorrow,

He turns and departs, there is always tomorrow.

Moon

Beguiling moon on which I gaze,

Of your iridescence I do praise,

my heart but a mortal beat,

Upon your silent strength I seek.

Your beauty captures the very soul.

Try as I may I can not see,

Why your glow enchants me,

For it is but an iridescent light

Full, round, and bright.

I, but an insect caught in the pull.

I’ve gazed in wonder,

Transfixed under,

Show me the way,

Enlighten my way.

Grant me your silent strength.

Your magic is an illusion,

To fill hearts with confusion,

And I'm but a fool,

Finding God to be cruel.

I need understanding at any length.

Heart

He watched her with awe as they sat one day,

with held breath to every word she'd say.

with furrowed brow he gazed into her eyes,

within her mirrored soul where her love resides.

she told him with a firm gentle voice,

to love him she had a choice

she stated she wouldn't fall apart,

if he didn't want her in his heart,

true love, lay not in possession and pain,

true love, was in the knowledge you gain,

holding on too tight only made you struggle away,

trusting always you wouldn't stray,

even though we maybe miles apart,

the love is gently secured in your heart.

with tears in his eyes he took her out stretched hand,

they walked through life, he a changed man.

Barbed

I hope for you love’s dart not bitter,

Darkness bright unwithered.

New found love succulent pure,

Regret holds no cure.

Barbed words departed,

Broken hearted

never to be,

I set you free

Love

my heart taps but a mortal beat,

faint from love trodden feet.

hold gently this tender bird,

spare the cruel barbed word.

softly kiss what’s bruised,

my heart sorely abused.

Love but a weapon used for pain,

deeply impaled leaving its stain.

don't make promises you can't keep,

my condemned heart doth weep.

no lessons learned foolish heart,

speared again with love's cruel dart.

a time must come to give up trying,

my mortal heart dying.

spare me this foolish plight this living hell,

this darkness I know so well.

say good-bye I bleed no more,

I wage this war.

I harden my heart barren I leave thee,

but even barren it doth not free me.

Jester

What a fool my mortal soul, bleed,

It mourns with aching need.

What humiliation does my jester’s heart laugh,

A bitter sound as thorny love drives a pointed shaft.

Can I be but saved,

Or imprisoned, adoration enslaved.

I beckon to the Goddess of peace,

Make this infernal pain cease.

But yet my heart, drones its beat,

The sorrow finds no retreat.

an empty shell consuming space,

a sad soul takes up this place,

no one sees what resides,

in this darkness inside.

See this clowns smile painted bright,

holding sanity white knuckles tight.

judge not this timid soul,

your pity is not a goal.

you don't see me hidden deep,

I am your nightmare in your sleep.
