~~This is a script that I wrote for my TV Production class, when the movie is done I'm gunna post it on YouTube and put the link here.~~

Don’t Drink the Water

Int. Hallway Day

A science geek is walking down a hallway holding a petri dish carefully out in front of him. As he is about to pass a fountain, Chad walks by and shoves him from behind, catching the science geek unawares and gives him no time to react. The contents of the petri dish spill onto the fountain. The boy’s face falls. Chad walks away chuckling.

Science Geek

(distraught) No. My project.

With dismay the boy picks up the shards of the broken petri dish and walks down the hall, his head down. Another kid is walking down the hallway and goes up to the fountain to get a drink. When he’s finished, he rights and shakes his head, as if to get rid of a bad or bitter taste. He shrugs it off and walks down the hall.

Int. Hallway Day

Students are milling about their lockers, friends in groups. At each group of friends, the camera pauses to introduce the character and from the dialogue between them you get an idea of what they are like: jerk, ditz, class clown, etc. The camera goes to the first group of people.

Chad

Practically everything mixes with water.

Spencer

Mercury doesn’t.

Chad

This is for a science project.

Spencer

Well, what do you need?

Chad

Something that mixes with water, but causes a reaction.

Spencer

How is that mixing?

Moving down the hall you come to the second group of people.

Stephanie

How can you drink so much soda?

Tiffany

Easy.

Tiffany takes a drink from a soda can.

Stephanie

That’s probably why you’re so air-headed.

Tiffany

(defensive) I am not air-headed!

Simon

Like a balloon, you’re so full of it.

Camera moves down the hall a ways and come to the next cluster of friends.

Aiden

Why are you mad at your sister?

Megan

(huffs) She’s wearing my shoes.

Camera flashes to Stephanie’s feet, she’s wearing track-like shoes. Then the camera flashes back to Megan, who is glaring.

Jamie

That’s no reason to be mad at her. It’s only shoes.

Megan

Only shoes? Those are my shoes. You got a problem with that?

Jamie

No. It just seems pretty pointless to be mad over something so trivial.

Jamie turns to talk to Aiden and ignores Megan.

Jamie

Hey, what are you doing this weekend? Think you can come over?

Aiden

I-

Megan

He can’t, he’ll be with me.

Camera moves down the hall and comes to a group of guys.

Ian

I think we should shoot the movie at the cemetery.

Brigim

Why the cemetery?

Michael

Why not the cemetery, it’s the perfect setting.

Logan

I thought the theme was “life”?

Ian

That just makes the cemetery ironic. Even in death, the living will prevail.

Int. Classroom Day

A student at the back of the half-full classroom raises her hand.

Hysteria Chick

Can I go to the lavatory?

Mr. Fox

Sure, take the pass.

Mr. Fox hands the pass to Hysteria Chick as she passes his desk and walks out of the classroom.

Int. Stairway/Hallway Day

Camera focuses on Hysteria Girl walking up the stairs outside the classroom door, and as she’s reaching the top, the camera switches to where you see her walk through the doors and into the bathroom.

Int. Bathroom Day

The camera switches to the bathroom and is angled towards the corner where a dark figure (same guy as the one who drank from the fountain in the first scene) is cloaked in shadow is seen. Hysteria Chick goes into a stall then comes back out and goes to the sinks to wash her hands. As she’s looking into the mirror, she notices the shadowy figure in the corner. Her eyes widen with surprise and she moves to turn around when the shadowy figure advances on her and her scream is caught in her throat.

Int. Hallway Day

Hysteria Chick walks out of the bathroom, a bit unsteady and as if in a daze. Ian looks up from the “infected” fountain he’s drinking at and looks at Hysteria Chick quizzically. Hysteria Chick starts to wander down the hallway until a passing teacher stops her.

Mrs. Smith

Do you have a pass? You can’t be out wandering the halls without a pass.

Hysteria Chick moans but doesn’t acknowledge the teacher and continues walking, her feet starting to drag. Mrs. Smith is immediately annoyed and goes after Hysteria Chick. Mrs. Smith catches Hysteria Chick’s arm and turns her to face her. Hysteria Chick’s face is drawn and gray, the features slack and unfazed. Mrs. Smith is unnerved and let’s Hysteria Chick go. Hysteria Chick sways down the hall until a student leaving a class spots her and runs up to her. Simon puts his arm over her shoulder and steers her back towards class, chuckling.

Simon

Tsk tsk. Skipping class is so unbecoming.

Simon doesn’t notice that Hysteria Chick is unresponsive and leads her down the stairs back to class.

Int. Classroom Day

Once inside the classroom, Simon removes his arm from around Hysteria Chick’s shoulders and she slumps to the ground, his arm having been her only previous support. A few people nearest the door are surprised and worried and they get out of their seats to go help her. They turn her over onto her back.

Stephanie

Are you-

Stephanie’s eyes widen as she takes in the sight before her. Before now, the gaping gash on Hysteria Chick’s throat has gone unnoticed, now as it is pouring out blood onto the floor, it’s taken into account. Student’s crowd around Hysteria Chick, peering over shoulders for a better view.

Stephanie

Omigawd!

Spencer

Who would do this?

Stephanie

I know! It’s disgusting!

Tiffany

(awe, puzzled) There’s so much blood. I didn’t even know there was that much in the body…

A few faces turn to look at Tiffany, dumbstruck.

Chad

(shocked, sarcastic) You can’t be serious! That’s barely a pint! (mutters) Idiot.

Simon

As if that makes all the difference.

Stephanie

What’ll we do?

Spencer

We need to get her to the nurse.

Stephanie

But if we move her…

Spencer

Good point, there’ll be blood everywhere. We can’t move her. Can someone call the nurse?

Mr. Fox picks up the phone on his desk and pushes in the digits for the nurse’s office.

Mr. Fox

One step ahead of you.

Stephanie

Now what?

Spencer

Let me think…

Classroom door opens and 3 student’s come into the classroom, stopping when they see the crowd around Hysteria Chick and the pool of blood spreading around her.

Aiden

(concerned) What happened?

Megan

Ew. Is that blood?

Simon

No, it’s ketchup; we’re rehearsing a scene.

Jamie

That isn’t funny. What happened?

Stephanie

(panicked) We don’t know! (rambles) She just came into class and collapsed and started bleeding and-

Aiden

Is someone going to do something about it? She could be dying!

Mr. Fox

I’ve called the nurse. (serious) She’s not in.

Mr. Fox returns to trying to reach the nurse, dialing and redialing to no avail. Ian comes into the classroom. He doesn’t stop or acknowledge the small group standing just inside the doorway. Instead, he moves around them and goes to the back of the classroom to where there are 3 guys sitting on a futon. He nods a hello and leans against the heater.

Ian

What happened?

The 3 guys shrug.

Logan

Looks like some girl was attacked.

Ian

Do they know who did it?

The 3 guys shrug again, all looking unconcerned.

Brigim

Haven’t a clue.

Michael

I think she might be dead now.

Ian

Yeah, she didn’t look too good.

Suddenly Ian’s face contorts with pain and he holds his sides. He shakes violently for a moment, but then it’s over. He rights and shakes off the lingering feelings.

Logan

What’s up? You sick or something?

Ian shrugs.

Ian

It’s probably nothing.

Camera returns to the group of worried and shaken students at the front of the classroom. Stephanie is crying, Tiffany looks thoughtful (still trying to grasp the situation), Mr. Fox is panicking because the nurse won’t pick up her phone, Aiden and Jamie are debating over what they should do (rather than just stand there), Megan is frustrated because she’s being ignored and is sighing and crossing and re-crossing her arms, Spencer is arguing with Chad.

Chad

Well, if the nurse would only do her job.

Spencer

(reasons) Mrs. Green is probably at lunch.

Chad

Well a nurse should at least leave a forwarding number so she can be reached at any time.

Spencer

Considering the circumstances, you’re right. But-

Chad

There is no “but.” It’s her job to be ready for an emergency.

Spencer gives up arguing and returns his attention to Hysteria Chick. Mr. Fox suddenly whoops.

Mr. Fox

Hello? (relief) Oh, thank god! Mrs. Green, we have an emergency down in A-22. One of my students has been attacked and has this gaping wound on her throat and-

Spencer realizes with horror that the worst has come. Hysteria Chick is now incredibly pale and the pool of blood around her has only been growing in size while everyone had his or her attention turned to something else.

Spencer

(quietly) It’s no use… She’s dead.

The room goes silent, all talking, or crying, stopped.

Int. Hallway Day

Megan is standing at her locker with a few other students.

Megan

Did you hear about what happened?

Student #1

Yeah, some girl in your class was attacked or something. That true?

Megan

Yeah. It was so disgusting.

Student #2

Did she die?

Megan nods her head and tries to appear sad.

Megan

(dramatically) They brought her down to the nurse’s office after, but it was already too late.

Aiden walks over to stand beside Megan

Aiden

Are you alright?

Megan

Do I look alright to you?

Jamie walks up to Aiden and stands beside him.

Jamie

It’s horrible what happened. I didn’t even know that girl. What was her name?

Everybody shrugs.

Jamie

That makes me feel worse.

Megan

I’m sure you’ll get over it.

Jamie looks appalled at Megan’s bluntness and uncaring attitude. He sighs and shakes his head, disgusted, and nods to Aiden.

Jamie

Later.

Aiden looks torn and is about to follow after Jamie when Megan grabs his arm and holds him back. Jamie walks away down the hall and joins Stephanie and her group of friends. Stephanie looks sympathetic.

Stephanie

Terrible what happened earlier.

Jamie

I know. I still can’t believe it happened… I mean, at school? Who in their right mind would do that?

Stephanie

I don’t know…

A little down the hall, Ian and his friends are standing around the “infected” fountain. Ian is drinking from the fountain, and after he’s done his friends follow suit.

Brigim

So, you think it’ll be on the news?

Ian

What doesn’t the news cover?

Logan

It’ll be in the papers.

Michael

For sure.

Brigim

Think they’ll do exclusive coverage?

Ian

Perhaps. But I think it’ll be more hush-hush. You know how schools can be.

The three friends nod their head in agreement. A bell rings signaling the end of break and the students in the hall file back to class. As the four friends are walking, Ian buckles and starts to convulse.

Logan

Gawd, man, I think you should see the nurse about this, it keeps happening.

Ian

No, no, I’m fine.

The 3 friends stare at Ian.

Michael

You don’t look fine.

Ian

What?

Brigim

You’re wicked pale.

Logan

And your eyes are dilated. That can’t be normal.

Ian

What are you, my doctor?

Logan

I’m just saying.

Ian

And I’m saying I’ll take my chances. Come on, we’ll be late to class.

The bell signals again. The hallway is now empty and the guys’ head off to class, late.

Int. Classroom #1 Day

The guys sit at the back of the class… Time seems to pass, the class is now underway, and Ian is convulsing again. Only this time, the other guys join in, too. Soon this catches the attention of the class and people freak out. Ian is now pale faced and graying, his skin looking blistered and his eyes rolled back into his head. His friends don’t look quite as bad, the virus in them not as evolved as it is in Ian’s case. Their immune systems being much weaker they are quick to catch up. Four zombies stand at the back of the class, looking at the students hungrily, moaning.

Simon

That can’t be good.

Tiffany

What’s wrong with them? They look dead.

Aiden

I think they are dead.

Stephanie

That’s not possible. The dead don’t walk around.

Someone bangs on the classroom door and the students look up to see Hysteria Chick clawing at the glass, trying to get into the room. Behind her are other zombies.

Simon

That really can’t be good.

Stephanie screams as Logan lunges at her. Aiden grabs Logan and pulls him off Stephanie, shoving him away. Megan goes over and separates the two of them.

Megan

Oh, no you don’t.

Megan isn’t paying attention and Logan advances on her, biting her. She screams and Aiden pulls her away. Megan is bleeding profusely. She clamps a hand over her throat to stop the blood flow, but it’s no use. She falls against a desk, going limp, and Aiden tries to support her. But her skin has already paled and the same blisters on the other zombies is spreading on her face and arms. As Aiden leans over her, she reaches up and bites him. Jamie’s quick to act and slams something against her head, which immediately knocks her out. He pulls Aiden away, but it’s too late. Aiden moves to go after Jamie, but someone shoves him away. The students not zombiefied flee the room they’re in, slamming the door behind them and hide out in a vacant room.

Int. Classroom #2 Day

Stephanie

What’ll we do?

Spencer

There isn’t much we can do. They’ve changed. They’re zombies now. Like us, but more dead.

Chad

Well, how do we kill them?

Jamie

What?! Kill them? These are people we know.

Stephanie

I don’t care if they’re people we know; they want to eat us!

Spencer

It’s imperative for a zombie to eat human flesh. And they’re quicker when they’re hungry. So we probably shouldn’t stay here long.

Chad

I vote we stay and kill them.

Jamie

I say we run while we have the chance.

Spencer

We should break into groups. If we stay together, they’ll be more drawn to us. We’ll attract too much attention.

Simon

We’d be like a walking buffet.

Spencer

Exactly.

Chad

And what if they come after us? How are we going to fend them off?

Spencer

We arm ourselves.

Chad

With what?

The group look around them. Simon reaches up and takes down the flag. He practices a few swings.

Spencer

That’ll work

Simon

Who knew the flag would ever come in handy.

The students search the room until they are all armed with something: broom, baseball bat, etc. Then they approach the door and peer out of it. The hall is overrun by zombies.

Simon

(low, serious voice) I see dead people.

Stephanie whacks him and frowns.

Stephanie

Not funny.

They all back away and look toward the door they had first come through.

Spencer

It seems like our best bet.

Chad

Whatever, let’s just get out of here.

Stephanie

(mutters) You seem eager to die.

Spencer leads the way to the door and opens it.

Int. Classroom #1 Day

Immediately hands reach out to grab him and pull him into the circle of zombies waiting for them. Stephanie tries to go after him and the zombies grab her. Jamie tries to go after her, but she’s already lost among their ranks. She screams as they eat her. Chad and Jamie fight off the zombies that are pressing in on them. Simon is attacking them at random, until he goes to swing at Tiffany and she screams. He notices that she isn’t one of them, even though she was acting like a zombie, and pulls her next the group of survivors.

Simon

What were you doing? Acting stupid?

Tiffany

You guys forgot me when you ran. They weren’t coming after me, but I wasn’t going to take chances.

Simon

So you acted like them?

Tiffany

Moan, it works.

Simon tries to get Jamie’s attention, but he’s preoccupied fighting off Aiden. Jamie doesn’t have any choice, Aiden is seriously trying to kill him and he resorts to his last hope. Jamie bashes Aiden on the head and Aiden collapses. Chad is cornered and is fighting off Ian and his friends single handedly. Jamie moves to help him.

Chad

No, go on ahead. I’ve got these guys’ attention.

Jamie

You sure?

Chad doesn’t reply, just continues to fight off the zombies. Jamie joins Simon and Tiffany.

Simon

Tif says that if we act like them, they won’t notice us.

Jamie

It’s worth a shot.

The trio go to the door and open it.

Int. Hallway Day

They walk out stiff-backed and moaning. The zombies in the hall don’t notice them. They make it as far as the entrance doors. Jamie tries to open the door, but it doesn’t budge.

Jamie

(mutters) Damn. I forgot that they lock them during school hours.

Simon

What about the doors by D wing? They aren’t locked.

They look around them. The zombies haven’t noticed them yet.

Jamie

Let’s go.

Moaning like zombies, the trio move down the hallway at a slow pace. There aren’t any zombies by the stairs, so they rush down them, not thinking about the sounds they’re making. At the bottom, zombies are waiting and they go after the survivors. Jamie fights them off, but he’s pulled into their midst. That leaves an opening for Simon and Tiffany to slip out of the doors. They don’t bother to act like zombies as they make a mad dash for the doors. A zombie grabs Simon and he quickly bashes it on the head.

Ext. Parking Lot Day

Tiffany and Simon slam open the doors and run towards the parking lot. Simon finds his car and pulls out keys.

Int. Simon’s Car Day

They get in and Simon starts the ignition. He stops suddenly.

Tiffany

(impatiently) Drive, already!

Simon looks at her and you noticed that his sleeve is torn and there are marks there from having been bitten. He lunges at Tiffany. Tiffany screams and opens the door. Jumping out of the car, she runs away.

Ext. School Entrance Day

Tiffany is standing outside of a “new” school and is looking down at some papers: her class schedule, map of school, etc.

Tiffany

I can’t believe they relocated me.

A girl walks up to her.

Girl

You must be the new student. Haley, right?

Tiffany

Yeah.

They walk towards the main entrance doors.

Girl

Are you new to the area?

Tiffany

Yep, just moved here yesterday.

Girl

Need someone to show you around?

Tiffany

(smiles) Sure.

As they’re walking, the camera focuses on Tiffany’s face, which is paling and graying around the edges. The blisters begin to spread.
