Dark Fantasy Chapter 1

I am tired, not that I need sleep. I am tired of life. I have been alive for millennia, I have seen nations rise and fall, peace then war then peace again in a never ending cycle. I have lived long enough to see many friends succumb to temptation and turn to the darkness. I have been forced to destroy friends who I called brothers. I will not do it again, and I will not risk forcing others to destroy me! For centuries life has been grey and dark I can feel the dark urges growing with everyday that passes, I will not be able to resist the darkness for many more risings. The only hope I had was to find my lifemate, the light which would save my soul from an eternity of darkness. But after centuries of searching I am out of time. Today I will end my bleak existence. I will greet the dawn. It is 5am I should be preparing to go to ground. But not this day, this day I will watch the sun rise for the first and last time in my life. Today I go to meet my maker. I leave my mansion in the twilight of early morning, the first wisps of blue are visible in the east. I am going to walk up into the mountains and find a nice secluded spot to watch the sun rise. As I am walking out of town towards my appointment with the dawn I walk past a beautiful garden full of plants and flowers, of course everything is just grey to me, I have not seen colours for centuries. I notice a beautiful woman tending the gardens in the coolness of the early morning. I watch her, she is petite with long dark wavy hair almost down to her waist. As I watch her from the shadows I feel a stirring in my chest, what is happening? I have not felt this before. Then she starts to sing, her voice is beautiful like an angel. It enchants me, I cannot concentrate on anything but the wonderful voice. I am enthralled. I suddenly realise that the world is no longer grey, I can see the green of the grass, the blue of the sky, and the wonderful rainbow colours of the flowers in this garden! What has caused this? Is this woman..... No she can't be.... Can she? Is this my lifemate? Is this who I have spent centuries looking for? I keep watching her so intently that I don't notice the burning on my skin. As I am staring at this vision of beauty I suddenly notice the first rays of the sun rising over the horizon. Oh no the dawn has arrived, I have found my lifemate, I don't want to greet the dawn!! I am too far from my mansion to make it, I need to find shelter now. What can I do, where can I go? Then I remember there are some caves in the canyon behind this woman's house, they are my only hope. I leave the wonderful garden and run as fast as I can towards the canyon, the rays of the early morning sun are burning my skin as I run faster and faster. There it is, I can see the cave. I reach it just as the canyon is flooded with the bright early morning sun. I follow the cave as deep as I can looking for some cooling earth to heal my burned skin. As I get deeper into the cave I find a patch of rich dark earth. I wave my arms to open the earth, I float down into the cool depths. Before I close the healing earth over me I think of the beautiful woman in the garden, is she the one I have been looking for? What is her name? I will need to wait for the sun to drop before I can find out who she is. As I close the earth over me and sleep my last thought is of that beautiful enchanting voice, the voice of my lifemate.......

This is an intriguing piece so far. You should continue writing, from one author to a nother... Found this interesting. Also the flower thing makes me smile since it hits close to home for me. Let me know when you write more, I would love to read it.

This sounds very much like Christine Feehan's Dark Series actually. I used to collect her novels. She has Carpathian vampires (which they don't turn into vampires unless they give into the dark), and they seek, as you put it, Lifemates. Same thing, they cannot see colors etc, until they find them.
