Day 2 - The Retreat

17:42 May 12 2013
Times Read: 796

The Messenger to Vlads army returned late the next evening having spend hours behind enemy lines as he entered the grand hall the Lord Marshall fell into step beside him, his armor now smeared with spattering of blood.

"M'Lord, the messenger has returned at last and is able to report what has occurred. The battlements report that Vlad and whats left of his army have withdrawn and are gimping their way on to the next coven. I am pleased to report Vlads army has sustained heavy casualties while trying to force their way to the gates. None even made it close M'lord the barbican and it's men did wonderfully."

"Thank you for your report Lord Marshall, I am pleased to hear our planing has paid off and have caused heavy losses for his forces."

Legion turned to the messenger and motioned him to speak.

"M'lord as you are well aware I ended up spending much time behind enemy lines. Most of this time was spent trying to find a way to properly communicate with the commander of the army. When I was dragged into his tent and began to pass along your message I was confronted with a look of confusion and no understanding. All he could do was scream partial statements like... Huzzah and something about lusty vampires over and over. It took several hours and breaking everything down to pictures before he seemed to understand but still he sent wave after wave of his men to die before packing up and just leaving camp"

Legion rested back into his chair as the hall went silent. His mind filled with thoughts on how best to proceed.

"Lord Marshall. Sound the call and have the outriders spring the surprise attack. Take a couple hundred of his men and decorate the outside walls so he may see if he should return. Keep our gates secure and the men in place for the time being."

"Yes M'lord, at once"

Both Lord Marshall and the messenger turned and quickly left the hall to see to his commands.

Day 1 - The Approach

23:19 May 10 2013
Times Read: 831

The Lord Marshal entered the vast grand hall with a look of aggravation on his face, within his armor clad hands he carried rolled parchments with coded information that had been gathered, confirmed and compiled into lists over the last month or more. The approach of Vlad's army was something long awaited and expected, in fact for several weeks now scouts had been sent out and scattered along the extended low lands around the mountain top fortress to take estimated counts of the army's numbers. Day after day reports came in with detailed information about the marching force, the commanders and the supply's that followed them. As time grew closer to the final approach of this invading group the immediate surrounding lands were cleared of all residents, the livestock, crops and supply's were either gathered into the fortress or destroyed to leave nothing for them to steal. 1,500 mounted Lances (9000 men) left the gates of Legion and moved deep into the surrounding lands for a undisclosed mission one week prior to Vlad's arrival. It was also then that the heavy gate was sealed on the only approachable curtain wall, 20 feet thick. A small group of a 1000 well trained archers and footmen remained for defense of the Barbican leading to the main gates, even with small numbers it would take months and floods of Vlads's army to even begin to near the gate wall itself, his vast numbers would be meaningless confined to the narrow pathway and the Marshal expected nothing less then a full on bloodbath.

"M'lord...the battlements report the approaching army is near. All has been made ready for the defense of the fortress. The gates have been sealed and 1000 men left to defend the barbican which is more then adequate, the other men have been given order to take to the higher secondary wall and the battlements to operate the ballistas and trebuchets."

Legion but glanced up from a stack of ledgers scattered before him then spoke

"Send a messenger to his camp to inform him we have known of his arrival and prepared accordingly, we offer him the chance to remove his hostility towards us and move on peacefully or face a long drawn out and costly siege."

"At once M'lord"

The Lord Marshal turned to leave the hall to send out orders but before he reached the door Legion spoke again.

"Have the archers fill the sky with flaming arrows tonight if he is at all within range of the long bows. Let it serve as a warning to him and his men."
