VR Troubleshooting

Sometimes a user experiences random log outs. There is a simple rule when troubleshooting VR issues. If a problem cannot be duplicated, it cannot be fixed. In order to fix a problem you are having, the problem must replicate, every time a certain set of circumstances occurs.

When you are experiencing a VR issue you must eliminate possible causes one-by-one.

Step 1 - Make sure your computer is not the problem

You can verify that your computer is not the problem by going to another computer and logging into your account. If the problem replicates on the second computer, you have just validated that the problem is not with your computer. However, if you cannot replicate the problem then the problem you are experiencing MUST be with your computer only. This is not a VR issue.

Step 2 - Make sure the problem is not with your network or ISP

You can verify that your network/ISP is not the problem by getting onto VR via a different connection. Try a local library, work computer, your laptop at a coffee shop, or a computer at a friend's house.

If the problem replicates you have validated that the issue is not with your ISP/network. If the problem does not replicate, then the issue MUST be with your ISP/Network (or possibly, your home computer).

If you have eliminated your computer and network/ISP as possible sources of the problem, then and only then is it time to report the issue. Again, if a problem cannot be replicated it cannot be fixed.

Steps you can try if your computer or network/ISP is the issue

  • Make sure you are not experiencing a page caching issue.

  • When you experience a log out issue, close all browser windows, reopen, and reload the site.

  • You can try a network restart. This involves shutting down your computer, and unplugging all modems and routers in the house. Unplug routers and modems from the back of the unit, do not unplug from the wall.

    Wait around 30 seconds.

Plug in your cable/dsl modem. Wait until all lights are green. Plug in any routers. Wait until all lights are green. Turn on computers.

  • Make sure you're not experiencing spyware/malware issues. Some spyware and malware can redirect your traffic and cause login/load problems with some sites. The VR Manual on spyware and malware has a three steps process that solves 99% of spyware/malware issues. It involves installing 3 programs, all of which are free.

It will take many hours to complete the scans and necessary clean up.

If you cannot load one of the links posted in the spyware chapter, then you are definitely spyware/malware infected. Some spyware prevents you from loading sites that will help you fix the problem.
