There is a time when all of us feel love as nettles instead of the warmth that is promised. It's a time when each pang for love tears at your heart the same way that briars will tear through your skin while reaching for the elusive briar rose.

It's such a dichotomy. We say we "need" to feel to be human, yet we lose more and more of our humanity with each scar we receive in the name of love. You go into refreshed and come out broken and torn....every time.

Yet muddle through we do, like lemmings to the cliff. Perhaps we like the sting of the briars upon our hearts just to prove we are still capable of feeling anything at all. Perhaps the sting of briars is the emotional equivalent to the sting of thorns.
