A straight to TV movie and failed pilot of the early 1990’s “Blood Ties” tells the story of teen Cody Puckett played by Jason London. After his parents are murdered in their sleep, Cody runs to the only relatives he knows in Long Beach, California. What Cody does not know is that both he and his relatives are really Carpathian vampires who have migrated to the U.S. and become assimilated into American society. Cody soon learns about the implications of his ancestry, as well as his special powers, and when the hunters that killed his parents kidnap more of the family there can only be one course of action.
The vampire lore used in this movie is very interesting, the vampires are essentially human, they can exist in the daylight, they eat and drink lick humans, save for the odd drop of blood here and there. They live for a few decades longer than humans, as well as being slightly fast, stranger and “better in the sack”. All in all its a very interesting, very watchable movie, and suitable for most audiences.
