THE COMING OF CONAN!
Come with us to the Hyborian age!
Come with us, back to the dark centuries which sprawl between the sinking of Atlantis and the dawn of recorded time. To the days when the now forgotten land of Aquilonia was the mightiest of nations - and a man's life was worth no more than the strength of his sword arm!
Come with us to the raw, untamed world of Conan the Barbarian!
Excerpt taken from issue #1, page 1.
Conan the Barbarian is based on the pulp stories of Robert E. Howard. The success of this series, led Marvel to publish Savage Tales (1971 series), a black and white, magazine sized series. It also led to the publication of Kull the Barbarian, which featured another Howard-created character.
Marvel Comics introduced a relatively lore-faithful version of Conan the Barbarian in 1970 with Conan the Barbarian, written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Barry Windsor-Smith.
In this series Conan ranges from villain, to anti-hero, to hero. At times he is a pirate, other times a king.
