These days, people speak of things I would consider natural as supernatural. They speak of the normal as paranormal.

I think energy is natural and normal. To me, there is nothing about psychic vampirism that is not just the way things are in human interaction. I try hard not to offend people who believe otherwise, but it has just never convinced me. I have even thought at one time that I believed, to the point in questioning my own being. I spoke to Michelle Belanger, I read her books... I questioned... it came back to the natural and normal for me, and what I see in all people.

I wonder if there is anyone that can convince me otherwise. I do not want to argue, I'd like to finally hear something different. I'd like an insight as to why a psychic vampire is different than a human doing what humans do.

There are a couple people in House Eternal I respect greatly as people, but still don't hold the same point of view on this topic. I am hoping we can tactfully converse about it.

I have to admit, I'm not entirely convinced, either. We humans are, for the most part, social creatures, and when we are alone we tend to feel "drained" or depressed...and when we are in a large group, we can tend to feel energized and happy.

But to play devil's advocate a bit here, what I think characterizes a psionic "vampire" (quotes are not meant to offend; they are there to make the distinction between fiction and reality; ask any psionic "vampire" and they will tell you they are human and using the term "vampire" can be a misnomer) from an otherwise normal human being is the severity of symptoms. How drained does one feel without the presence of chi? How energized does one feel with it?

Some psionics also claim what can be considered supernatural abilities; energy manipulation (doi :), telekinesis, things of that nature.

This still is not something that entirely convinces me either, however, as there are people who do not claim vampirism but still claim to have certain abilities.

I'm looking forward to responses from those who are within the psionic community. :)

I agree with you Lagniappe.

For the past few months I've been trying to understand the subject more.

In fact that is what drew me to the Coven I am in now, there is so much information on energy there.

I now think that the only 'real' difference between people who call themselves psi vampires and the rest of the population is that one group work with energy on a conscious level and the other on an uconscious level.

I have learnt being in a room full of people meditationing brings the meditation to a higher level. I also learn that you do not have to be a psy-vampire to drain one's energy. I have had people drain my energy because of their negativity. I have also been in a circle with many Wiccans and the energy was so high...for everyone was rasing their wonderful energy level. I myself, think it is the person whom you are around. I myself try and block people's negativity, so it will not effect my positive energy. Which at times it is not always as easy as said.

I am reopening this thread... because the question I am asking specifically here as 'Lagniappe' is not getting the answers I am looking for being mixed in with the other thread. The other thread in more of a general energy question, while I am specifically speaking of why psychic vampires claim abilities beyond the human norm.

Lagniappe~ I totally agree with your view on this, however, surely if an individual genuinely feels they can drain energy etc, then I believe it moves the goal-posts to a psychological path.

The question must then change from whether they can do it, to embrace the reason of 'why'.

While the idea of such techniques as Reiki have become more popular recently due to the wave of 'New Age' therapies, and general openness of the public to try holistic practices, the entire arena of energy healing is still roundly criticised by the medical community and lacks little if any supporting scientific evidence of benefit.

So the 'normal' place referred to here, is in fact, abnormal to the standard methodologies and common perceptions of health treatment.

The provable facts of humans sharing body heat, for example, or breath, or even electro-static charges, give us the means to perceive and measure the energetic interactions, but have not yet extended to encompass the ideas of one persons thoughts directing their own energy into anothers' system, in order to manipulate it.

This is where the science diverges from the theoretical, in my own opinion, since we can only witness for ourselves and choose to believe based on our own individual perceptions and experiences.

If a person has never experienced, nor seen for themselves the effects of an energy exchange between two beings, then how can they believe it is possible?

If they have known this, as in the case of Reiki, can it then be equated with 'energy vampirism', since the two involve much the same process?

This is the crux of the matter here, in that there is no perceived difference between the continual flow of energies on a non-concious level, and the specifically targeted functions of a concious intent.

However, it seems that the question being asked, is whether there is anything within the method of energy vampirsim that can only be attributed to such a person?

For this, we have again only our own experiences and understanding of it all.

In answering the following questions, I feel that I am able to find a differentiation between a person who might qualify as an energy vampire and a person who may not.

Within everyday interaction of society, do we transfer our emotions to one another on a fundamental level, or do we in fact cause one another to feel based on our communication and body language?

When we lay hands on or close to another, we pass heat and perhaps we pass energy, but how far can those hands be before the flow is no longer effective?

Can a person think of another and manifest their own energy in a non-localised form around another? By this, I mean can someone else 'feel' the flow from a person around and within themselves, but not have them nearby?

What form does visualisation take when these 'common' transfers of energy take place? Are there any at all?

Crucially, what gain might a person obtain from another during this energy exchange?

The question is pretty simple. Read it more than once if you don't understand.

Images knows where I stand on this subject. I find it insulting that people run around branding such abilities as Vampirism, making themselves seem more special.

Since when does feeding off the energies of others make you a "Dark soul of the damned" ?

It is a human ability, and it has been around for centuries longer than our "vampires"

Morrigon,

When those with the capability take it and use it for a selfish purpose, to take either for their pleasure, or to satisfy a perceived need (psychological corruption), can it then be seen as a 'Vampire', since it is effectively stealing from another person?

Unless you would use the term "Vampirism" for every draining activity, even letting the air out of someone's tires, I can't see any reason to use it on energy terms as well. People have been draining each other without even knowing it for years and years. Humans are capable of doing this, some just choose to hone that skill.

The exploitation of energy calling oneself a psi-vamp to me is the excuse for calling oneself such if one does not consume the stereotypical "blood" a normal vampire would.

Most think blood is the life for the vampire, where as many believe it is the energy within the blood, the life force if you will as an allegory for the soul that they are feeding from, hence...Psychic.

All of society has this ability whether they are aware of it or not...For this reason I am very skeptical as to whether or not those of whom claim the name psi-vamp. We all know vamps are feeders of energy, whether it be from the spirit or from the blood. This excuse that I imply is for those wanting to fit in, but will not consume blood as it either discusts them, repulses them, or is just not their taste.

I feel that the myth of the blood feeder is disappearing little by little out of society. Where as the idea of the psi-vamp is easier to come into persona rather than finding "donors". Since being the "psi-vamp" They take the easiest way out to stake claim for what they wish society to believe what they are.

Now do not get me wrong, There are actual individuals with the awareness for the energies surrounding them such as the Reiki, Martial Artists, Clairphenominal, etc.

But as it partains to the aspects of the vampire phenomenon, most within the substructure known as the vampire community, I believe have no idea when it comes to the first thing about the natures of the "night kind".

In my opinion I find that normal human activities to be draining, as well as some people. If you look at it from the aspect that some people "drain" the energy out of you then you might want to look at what else those people cause. If interacting with that person causes a certain emotion to spark inside of you, whether it is anger or depression, that emotion is going to drain you mentally. That drain can then be attributed to someone draining you. The same goes for stress. If you let it get to you then it will drain you.

Any person has the ability to drain another in my eyes. All they have to do is rile their emotions up just enough. So it would be normal human behavior. Its just annoying.

I think Morrigon brings up a great point, it is a skill- something that people can train and master.

What happens when they master it- that depends on the person. My personal stance is just because we all have the potential to do this (drain energy) it does not mean we all can. Just like some people can not sing or dance- some will never be able to control energy.

So it is a special ability. That said, I have say there is nothing abnormal or supernatural about it. Just like there is nothing supernatural about a sorprano that can shatter glass with voice alone. Why don't we consider that supernatural? It is super- but only because the person trained and then honed the ablity of their voice.

Energy is similar. You learn in basic steps and then depending on what you do- you learn more or you stop. It can even be compaired to an athlete training or a yogi performing routines that are outside of ordinary.

However, on the internet many people can seem to be energy gurus just by lending a symapthic ear. "Ah, it must be tough" OMG they so get me... "You must be tired" OMG they drained me... silly when put like this... but in the world of interaction and emotions, these can be powerful words.

It would seem that this type of energy cannot manifest itself to the eye, except maybe the result.
But surely it is psychological in that it would need both parties to agree that what is happening actually happens.
If you believe you can drain energy from someone and the person who is being drained believes they are being drained by the first person ... and there is no evidence to the contrary, then it really doesn't matter what you call them.

Morrigon,

What I mean is, even though we all can perform those actions of energy exchange, we call Reiki the art of healing through it, we call channellers of spirit energy 'Mediums', yet they essentially bear results from the same forces of Chi, Prana, energy.

So in this instance, can there not be a label for the person who draws energy from another for those specific purposes? Should we not use the common term of 'vampire' in order to more readily define those people who act in a vampiric fashion, as we would assign the term to a lawyer, for example?

But since we can all learn to hone those skills working with energy, it's not really something that only few can do. Anyone can learn Reiki. Anyone can learn to channel universal energy.

I'd like to know what a psychic vampire can do or need that is different from any other human.

Lagniappe,

True enough, but few do try and even fewer succeed to any great level of skill.

If we use this logic, then can we not say that Reiki masters are just normal then? And as such, could we flip it and maybe say that all humans are in fact, 'psychicly vampiric'?

(not being too serious here, just posing the question against the original statement)

From my perspective, it takes a special mindset to reach a high level of capability, setting Reiki Masters apart from the rest of humanity. In the same way, I see Tai Chi Masters as special. And again, by the same token, those who choose the label of 'psychic vampire' (one I personally dislike), can be considered apart from the norm for the specific skills which they have learned to use, which would be more successful if they had an innate gift to do so.

In the achievement of excellence in any field, a person becomes identified as 'special', they are honoured and rewarded, then labelled as 'this is what I am'.

People who conform to a standard archetype of the vampire have that same right to claim their identity.

I have wondered as a Reiki Master... with all the others things about me that seemed to fall in line with a psychic vampire... was I one? I have come to the old 'no' conclusion. I just couldn't find any qualities in me that set me apart from others aside from having an interest to hone that human skill.

So that being said... I would even be set apart. Not everyone is a Reiki Master. But I have watched my own child accomplish the same things without the knowledge I have. A gift? I don't know about that. I think maybe he's using a part of him many people ignore.

"A rose by any other name is still just a rose!"

After reading down through this thread and seeing others opinons and considering my own, I see little difference in what an energy vampire (or psy vamp) can do that we as ordinary humans can do (or learn to do). In my opinion, they differentiate themselves from humans to seperate themselves from the norm, to appear as something special or more important or powerful than the rest of us. Are they just looking for attention, notoriety, or are they really that different? I'm not completely convinced that they are.

I think that psychic vampirism is really emotional energy due to social situations. We all feel energized by certain crowds, perhaps a in dance club or political rally or even a church event. Are we really feeding energy from anyone? Most people there are energized, so it isn't really a feeding.

We also know those people that leave us feeling drained. But that is due to social interaction. Not feeding. Some people may actually enjoy making others feel down. We all know some people like that. Are they vampires? I don't think so, even if they believe they are.

I think Stabb had some good questions that can help identify if it really some type of psychic feeding of energy.

Also, the whole concept of a vampire, either sang or psi is that they need to feed to live. I believe the people that consider themselves psychic vampire would be able to live without psychic feeding.

Bones,

The vast majority of those whom I've spoken to, who claim the title of 'psychic (see energy) vampire', see themselves as human.

In the examples I used, the point is that people who can do something beyond the norm, are recognised and given an identity.

By your argument here, we could say exactly the same of Reiki and Tai Chi Masters- That "they differentiate themselves from humans to seperate themselves from the norm, to appear as something special or more important or powerful than the rest of us."

Why then is a negative connotation placed upon those who wish to see themselves, and be seen as, vampires?

I see this whole argument as flawed for these two reasons - that vampires who live the life seriously do not state that they aren't human, and that if they are capable of doing those things which have been ascribed to their list of potential talents, then surely they are special, when compared to those who have no talent, nor inclination to learn.

Stabb,

"I see this whole argument as flawed for these two reasons - that vampires who live the life seriously do not state that they aren't human,"

There are many who claim to take the life of a vampire seriously, who claim not to be human.

"..and that if they are capable of doing those things which have been ascribed to their list of potential talents, then surely they are special, when compared to those who have no talent, nor inclination to learn."

If these people are capable of doing these things, why should they be considered special or held in higher esteem than the average person? Not everyone desires to learn to use or manipulate energy. Does this make them any less special?

Bones,

I take your point that there are those who will want to present themselves as 'something inhuman', but I can only relate to my own experiences and conversations with others in the community.

In those instances, there are many long standing and respected individuals who understand the processes and issues involved in claiming their 'state' of vampirism, and to a very high degree of knowledge and ability to define and articulate their position to others.

These are the persons whom I'd use as a base reference, not the slightly worrisome 'Lestat' copycats.

For the second point, athletes are capable of great physical feats which the average person is not, either from lack of training or fundamental inability, and as such are considered to be 'special'.

Everyone can and is unique to their own ability, but we are grouped together in our respective fields of expertise, which requires a label to identify our core concept of being.

We have many boxes that we may place ourselves in, for work, for religious belief, for taste in art, for a few examples.

Identifying as a vampire does not preclude any others, and in terms of being able to perform specific energy works and express certain character traits, it seems to be a very valid label to use, moreso than any other.

Well how about this... psychic vampires claim to have an energy imbalance that needs to be fed. We all need to be fed, they say they need more. How can this be proven? It cannot. To me, it seems more of a want than a need. In regards to needing more than your average Joe.

I believe it is absolutely okay to want the energy. I believe it is okay to put your focus on it. I think what would make more sense to me is if psychic vampires said:

"We have a desire for energy beyond the norm and we put a focus on it beyond your average person."

That, I could buy into. Because we all need it, we all give and take... most of us just do it involuntarily as an innate human ability.

I've been reading the line of posts before me and to be honest all I can think to myself is.....
What is finding out why someone else wants to label themself going to do for me? Its not benifiting me in any way. For some reason thats what they identify with and thats how they live their lives. Who am I to tell them any different?
Now if you're saying you are a vampyre just to belong to something and you dont know the first thing about what you are claiming to be, you just get the back of my head because I have nothing more to discuss on that front.
I know a few people that put themselves in the bracket of being a psi vamp. Why not? Its what they call themsleves and its what they identify with.
Yes, you have reiki masters and martial artists that have a hightened sense of energy and can use that energy for their own personal use and its not considerd vampyric.
People call those in and certain sections of govt vampires or "soulless blood suckers" lol (Im sorry I find that funny) Its something that others easily identify.
I also understand the fact that those that "are" dont want those that "arent" using their title. But that happens everyday. Please keep in mind Im neither discounting nor approving of, Im just making observations.

When it comes to a psy vamp, the ones I've talked to dont think of themselves as anything else but humans with an ability that not everyone has mastered.
To go along with a previous post, is a person that takes this energy and uses it for themselves not a person with "vampyric" tendencies?.....Feeding off of others so that they may be "better"
On another note, I havent come across a sang that tells me they are something more than human.

i think Life itself is honestly about giving and taking...we all take on some levels, and we all give on some levels. i think that pyschic vampirism is just an extension of life...some "take" more from others and put a fancy name on it, givng them a mark of distinction.

Lagniappe,

Is it really more, or is it something different that's sought, needed even?

You're a person who understands the flow of energy about and within a person, so looking at it from the point of view of being unable to 'prove' anything, how can we prove that Reiki works?

By observable results, of course. A person comes away from treatment feeling better about themselves, they have a marked difference in their stance, their attitude, their energy patterns for instance.

But this is not measurable by any conventional means of blood tests, scans or other device. Yet it's believed, by both the practitioner and recipient, to have worked.

And when we talk about energy exchange in this thread, there is little to no distinction being made between different types of energy and interaction.

In Reiki, as I understand it, the individuals' own energy is used, in a sense, reshaped to to be placed back into their system with a beneficial purpose. This is not the same as eating food as an outside source of additional energy for survival.

We also might all want to share the warmth of another body next to ours, yet in cases of freezing to death, we need to in order to survive that.

We all of us, everything which lives, needs to be fed, but are the functions of an energy deficient being fully satisfied by food?

Take for example three recognised disorders;

- Seasonal Affective Disorder
- Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

None of which are linked to diet, but all of which produce symptoms of tiredness, depression and physical weakness.

In each of these cases, there appears to be no identifiable root cause, nor a single 'cure all' solution to them.

Those who suffer from those conditions need to have additional input to their energy systems in order to operate 'normally'.

So while this goes some way to proving that there are those who claim to 'need' energy who are clinically recognised, it does legitimise the point that a 'psychic vampire' may not be all that special at all.

However, leading on to your second post here, it would seem more acceptable to have a vampire which wants, rather than needs.

Is want any less of a need when we get into the realms of the psychology of addiction?

And further, what might it be called if we are non-consciously wanting something- how can our concious minds understand the differences?

And then to open up metaphysics, are vampires in need of something bound to the soul, which drives a psychological state and hence, a resultant psycho-somatic induced physical affliction?

Or it might be something more fundamental. Could it be a certain pattern of energy, a matter of how the flows of energy work within the system of the individual?

In the East, Chi and Medians, Prana and Chakras, are all concepts understood for considerably longer than electronics, but we as a society seem to place more trust in the sight of a TV screen working, than we do in the fact that we are alive at all.

Here we can hypothesise all night about whether a vampire has, as some claim, a fundamentally different pattern of sustaining life energy flowing through them, one which presses their need for additional input in order to maintain that flow in a state where they can operate just as does everyone else.

But as you say, we can prove nothing, yet we can believe anything we choose to, and in doing so, we create ourselves.

My personal thoughts on this:

I have read Michelle Belanger's book and have participated in her discussion forums for House Kheperu. While at one point in time, her thoughts of psychic vampirism struck a very deep chord in my being, I think I have gone beyond the definition of that which is a psychic vampire.

There are those who suffer a different condition of energy. Their energy beings are supposedly unable to sustain a normal amount of energy than the average person.

There are a million arguments for and against the concept of psychic vampirism. I have tossed them all around in my mind now for years and gone from believer to skeptic a few times.

Here is what I currently suggest: the state of being depends upon what the mind holds to be true or untrue. This a fairly accepted occult fact: the mind sustains power over the body.. some would say "mind over matter".

Using this model, the body and even the energy system of the individual falls subject to what the mind holds to be true of its physical self.

The self is comprised of the perceptions of the physical self and the constructs of the metaphysical self. It's these two that allow us to adopt archetypes from one stage in life to another. And sometimes it allows us to adopt multiple archetypes in the same given life stage.

Simply put, with this frame of thinking the psychic vampire is the product of the self's coping and adaptation to circumstances that have affected the physical self.

I fear I'm not making a lot of sense. It's been a long day for me. The mind has the powerful ability to create physical adaptations to succeed in the surrounding environment. Likewise, the mind often models this adaptation according to archetypes. Therefore, the physical and metaphysical self are a direct result of the environment that surrounds the individual.

When these archetypes are adopted, they are VERY real to the individual that has taken them on to adapt and survive.

Yes, I have been and am a psychic vampire, though I do not enjoy the title. I don't believe that this is an inherited condition. But then again, from my experience, it is an archetype that has been used to adapt to an extreme series of events in life.

Those are just my thoughts. The psychic vampire is no more or less real than any other brand of human. The condition exists and is a realty for those who have adopted this archetype to enhance their ability to cope and survive and endure.

But like all archetypes, the mind and the self will continue to evolve and adapt, molding itself time and again and creating the imagery, history, past life, and future of the self.

Unfortunately for many unable or unwilling to attempt independent objective thought, perception alone is indeed reality.

It is for this reason that many people feel better or worse after many things, both real and entirely imagined. When the gullible are fleeced by snake-oil salesmen of all sorts, it is due entirely to the temporarily perceived "feeling" that they have benefitted from the snake-oil-du-jour. Obviously, this does not at all provide actual evidence that such shams and/or placebos are actually performing such improvements or healings. Instead, it is all as subjectively perceived. And as anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows, perception alone is not reality.

Faith healers have used this scam for centuries in attempting to have their gullible constituents believe in their "powers." Whether we're talking Peter Popoff and his scamming ministry, already convicted and jailed once for deliberately defrauding his "believers" though he's currently right back in action doing it still... and people still flock to be defrauded, just as before, or whether we're talking about energy "feeding"... it is all nothing more than... perception.

If you believe in "psy" abilities, Reiki, and the like... then no lack of actual evidence is going to convince you otherwise. However to those for whom empirical evidence and objective observation matter, we know the reality of such claims. ;)

... perception is all it takes to convince such persons of what reality truly is.

I think independent objective thought is subjective... whatever side you are on, the other finds you are close minded. :) I am not saying anyone here is... I have an extremely open mind. I just find when I exercise independant objective thought giving facts... some people see it as being close minded.

I just can't conform when I can't buy into something. I have to stay faithful to the integrity of my opinion.

This is something I've discussed from a young age with my mother (JedixMasterxCheryl), and we have both experienced being psychically drained by people/places/events.

I personally think there is a mix of people who intentionally see to drain people while others do it unintentionally.

I often that I must be alone after extended periods of social interaction. Even time with my nearest and dearest (boyfriend, best friends, cats) becomes grating on me after such an event.

Anyway... psychic vampirism is very interesting and the kind that I can postulate and accept as highly possible from a scientific standpoint.

Here is some interesting reading from the following link: http://www.geocities.com/vampiricstudies/psi.html
Psi~Vamps are people who have the ability to drain away energy in all of its forms. To do so enhances their mental and physical energies as normal feeding would to regular Vampires. A Psi~Vamp may or may not be psychic in the normal sense, but this use of the terminology means the psychic ability to drain another of energy or life forces. It also means such an individual can drain thoughts, emotions, life force, mental and physical strengths.
About 50 percent of Psi~Vamps do so automatically without intending to or even realizing that they are doing so. Everyone has known or shall know a person like this, be it a sibling, lover, relative or friend. No matter how little time you spend with them you always feel tired and weak when they leave. The other 50 percent do so with intent. Some do so just to increase their own power, while others do so as a challenge --- a sort of game, to see how much they can take.

Like Vampires, Psi~Vamps can sense another of their kind and sometimes attack mentally just to see if the victim feels it or reacts to it. They enjoy the hunt and love the challenge when the victim feels it and tries to block or responds in kind. Then it becomes more than a Battle of Wills.
There is no magic attached to this, it is pure mental and psychic energy and force of will. One of the prevailing beliefs is that the Psi~Vamp attacks from the Astral Plane ... controlling the Astral State and its Astral Body. Another view is that the Psi~Vamp is in some way ill or unable to maintain it’s own energy levels for some reason, so it draws energy either unconsciously or deliberately from another to sustain it’s own energies. This does not mean the Psi~Vamp or Symbiot is a creature or spirit or anything else living or originating on the psychic plane. By doing so he/she can launch an attack upon the Astral Body of anyone else by eliminating negative energy, such as can be seen in auras, the Psi~Vamp can actually heal.

While the above mentioned site does contain some interesting information, I would suggest being careful about some of the other ideas presented there by the (now rumoured deceased) author.

Suggestions that a vampire cannot contract HIV/AIDS for example, can be interpreted dangerously.

Well vampire who has dire for
and energy that is burnt and make prana for.
There are different type of energies.

they are categorised in bio- energy, mental energy and psychic energy

mental energy is the outcoe of freshness of nerve and mind

psychic energy are elemental energy, aura, and live being energy (grace).

there may be other form of energy too under psychic energy.

There must be balance in between these three type of energies.
If there is imbalance the one which is in over quantity will take space of other energy and it harm body and mind.

say you overate, the bio energy will be in more than required quantity, you will not do psychic work and your even emotions and senses get effected. even pshysical work go on punishing you. if you intake psychic energy more than needed it make you drowsy and dump.

You can not get mental energy in extra coz it auto generated and auto balance with the activities of mind and body and nerves.

if you sleep well you gain mental energy overhauled by getting the lost energy back.

For me i am psychic vamp for i have dire for space energy. I do get it in my deep meditation and astral projections by going into own womb (subconscious state note min male and not female, i meant to dipped to teh spot where my soul exist at seat chakra in the place of womb) and get merged into space there I really become demon and start even barking if i get over loaded by space energy so barking make my space energy balanced.

when i am not in position to meditate or astral hovering (when i am in peepal, I cant do such activity for they will surprise that whether my mind got affected), i do rely on Aura, its plentyy in sphere and instantly available without exercises naturally.

Thus the type are defined so that in absence of one energy can substitute other energies of that type.

WHAT

I can't believe people are so misguided to believe this drivel. Whatever, though. If this is the crap keeping stupidity out of the gene pool... fine by me.

I don't mean to come on so harsh but seriously, people. Just because someone believes in vampire fantasy land and life to the point that it encompasses everything they know does not change their biological physiology as a HUMAN.

I just... argh. Seriously.

I don't think that being a 'psychic vampire' makes you supernatural, and I'm not sure if I see it as being anything other than a human, but feeding off of energy consciously isn't normal human behavior.
if it was, people wouldn't believe you're off your nut when you say it.

I think we all feed off of energy unconsciously to an extent, but maybe 'psychic vampires' do so to a higher extent, and consciously.

UpirLikhyj,

Is it irrational for someone to believe that they are loved, even if we cannot know for certain that we are?

If the only empirical 'proof' that we have is the actions of the lover towards us, is this not truth enough to base our reality upon?

And with faith, in G*d or otherwise, surely it would be arrogant of humanity to believe that we are the superior intellect, in all the stars, galaxies, realities and dimensions of existence.

While this would not discount those charlatans who would take advantage of the human willingness to look beyond the provable, and the science, to find some answers to questions of why and how we are, it is never the less a valid part of the philosophies which shape us and our societies, in the quest to know who we are.

As an example, a person should not be held to be lacking objectivity because they believe that the future will work out for them, in the absence of any evidence to support their belief. Maybe we can be biased in our wishing for it to be the way we want it, unknowing of what events will actually occur, but we can always hope and dream and work towards those goals, regardless.

And in many respects, it is possible to measure certain energy transfers from one body to another, such as heat and static electricity. Based on that, would it not be fair to say that it is the stout empiricists who have limited their own perceptions as to what is real?

If they have a person consenting to have the exchange of energy done whats the problem?
Its not cool to take advantage of any person or situation without the other knowing but everyone does it in some way, shape or form.

Lagniappe, I'm there with you completely. I don't wish to offend anyone either, but feeding off of the energy that others project has always been something normal for me. I mean, if I'm around someone and they are really, really down, I'll start to feel it too. I'll "feed" off their negativity and before long I'm a big ol' grouch right with them. If I'm around someone that is happy and excited, soon I'm caught up in the moment and I'm happy and excited too. Does this mean I'm a psychic vampire or is it something that everyone does even if they don't talk about it? Is it something some call themselves just to be included in vampire lore?

I understand how it can make you question yourself, Lagniappe, because it makes me wonder too.

I absolutely believe in psychic vampirism. it's a subject that 99% of the people I deal with on a day to day basis do not believe in or consider supernatural. that is mainly because they do not take the time to listen to what it is and the logic behind it. that makes me sad. the fact that people would so blatantly shut out knowledge from their lives. alas, that's their problem.

the main reason i believe in psychic vampirism is the fact that my mood and my energy level is directly correlated to the energy level and mood of the people around me.

What DarknessBreached and Theta have described sounds a lot like empathy, but I could be wrong. I personally do believe in psy vampirism. What I believe distingues a psy vampire is the need for prana. There are many theories as to why a psy vampire needs prana, including theories on soul origins, damage to the subtle body, and broken or missing chakras. I do believe all people absorb energy in one way or another, but I think psy vampires absorb much more than others. These are just my thoughts and opinions, and I highly respect all opinions on the subject.

I'm also open to learning more, especially from the insights of others. I believe that empathy and psy vampirism are two separate phenomenon, although vampires are often empathic. Empathy, from what I understand, is being highly intuitive and sensitive to the emotions of others. But, psy vampirism, I believe, is the need to feed off of an energy source. For myself, these are two distinct things.
