There are many speculations and theories to what the ancient gods actually were... if they were. Some believe they were aliens, some believe they were nephilim, and some believe they were humans before we lost our powers due to constant inbreeding which is spoken much of in mythology. For example, Zeus and Hera were siblings and they had many children together. Each generation was weaker than the next. Since incest is now considered wrong in civilized society, perhaps humans may one day regain such power and become gods once again. After all, mental and superhuman powers are far more common now than ever before. If and when that happens, will anyone even remember names such as Zeus, Ra, Odin, and Brahma? What are your thoughts?
I believe in the measure of how the Japanese View Kami. Kami, are Spirits of power, from nature to people. Kami are things and people that have stood out from the general aspects of the world around them. In this, they are given the elevation of 'Kami' to show their very presence of being something above normal, above human.
in this I do not doubt the Gods once walked the world, however they walked the world as the Avatara of the Gods, given the ability to be more, doing so in light of who they are to become in divine manner.
Though even today, in India, Saints and Avatara of the Gods and Goddesses remain, always present, always willing to help those along the proper path in which they seek.
and in manner, we are Gods and Goddesses ourselves, just, however, we do not remember being such.

Now what I'm posting are lyrics from a Band called Motherjane. These Lyrics ring true to aspect in this manner.
Motherjane - Maktub
You ain't dead yet
You've just stopped liging
You ain't alive, yet
justb'cos you're breathing
There's really more than you can take
between the shadows and the sun
But which part of you will hear what I must say,
the creator of just the creation?
You ain't dead yet
Go on & take your next step
For if you cannont see beyound today's inheritance
Then the god in you is dead
There's really no feeling that our souls can't taste
between the shadows and the sun
Now which part of you will hear what I must say,
the creator of just the creation?
Coz half empty, half full
It's all inside your head
& sometimes what we think is the truth,
is just a matter of context
You see we're blessed with choices
we fear what we don't understand
Life ends, that makes it beautiful
God Knows, so he lives in the mortal man...
I say to you, it is written
And by your hands it is rewritten
In those sacred moments,
when the creator walks through the creation
Humans are evolving every second of their life. To go back into an existence, where humans were gods or Goddess is Impossible. (my opinion). We are too dip into the new Genetic imperfection of Genes and chromosome. Gods and Godless, for some, is part of mythology. Myth are legend and folktale. Myths, legends, and folktales are different types of traditional story. Unlike myths, folktales can take place at any time and any place, and they are not considered true or sacred by the societies that tell them. Like myths, legends are stories that are traditionally considered true, but are set in a more recent time, when the world was much as it is today. Legends generally feature humans as their main characters, whereas myths generally focus on superhuman characters, like Gods and Goddess.
The distinction between myth, legend, and folktale is meant simply as a useful tool for grouping traditional stories. In many cultures, it is hard to draw a sharp line between myths and legends. Instead of dividing their traditional stories into myths, legends, and folktales, some cultures divide them into two categories, one that roughly corresponds to folktales, and one that combines myths and legends. Even myths and folktales are not completely distinct. A story may be considered true (and therefore a myth) in one society, but considered fictional (and therefore a folktale) in another society. In fact, when a myth loses its status as part of a religious system, it often takes on traits more typical of folktales, with its formerly divine characters reinterpreted as human heroes, giants, gods, goddess
or fairies
Nobody knows what is true. Until we do, all words are nothing but opinion including what I have said. They are said to make us think and share opinions in order to better understand what little truth is known.
Hmmm...I kind of see it the other way around. Humans were gods or the closest things to Gods until they started messing up.
In many religions/myths, in the beginning, humans are near perfect: In the earliest books of the Bible, mankind lived for hundreds of years; Greek civilization started off with a Golden Age and dwindled down to Brass, ie less imperfect; gods/aliens seemed to have communicated with mankind more in ancient times rather than later.
There are more examples, but I figure, three would suffice to make my point.
