I think goth is just a label, why do ppl say 'cos he listens to black metal so he is a black metaler'
How can you catagorize when each and everyone of us has a different character...
A person isnt a 'goth',he is just himself.....
Every read can feel free and express his opinion...i continue on the subject later...
Who cares we r what we r so if some1 wants to try and pigeon hole us FUCK them
It can be a stereo type, like anything other label in the world.
To me, Goth is a state of mind, not the way you look. It's easier for people to accept someone as Goth if you look the part, but does that person embrace Goth on the inside??
I am more vampire than Goth; however, Goth is attractive to me because a Goth is less likely to take society's tradition. It's about breaking free from sterile, old fashion ideas.
True but i treat eve3r1 the same no matter what they into i just expect thesame (not gettin a brick in the back of me head just cause i wear black clothes)
Yes, Chaos, I agree!!
I will add it means not judging; not caring about other's judgements, and their insecurities.
It has been stated many times in the forum: People are afraid of what they don't understand. Hmm, that is their problem, isn't it??
i'm me, so i wouldn't know what a goth is exactly. but i would say it is someone who dressed black and thinks of black things
I agree with Bliss (thanx 4 pointin out all the things i missed) but what she said (although in a lot more detail)
"Cant we all just.......................get along?"
Goth is whatever you want it to be, a lifestyle, state of mind, reality or anything else that you’d like it to be. Like I said however you want it to be because it shouldn't be defined as just one particular thing. That's what's wrong with society today, everyone wants to try and classify everything so they can obtain a better understanding of it. I believe that some things are just better off left unexplained, sometimes trying to explain something can just suck all the fun out of it or the actual meaning. Well that's just my opinion, but of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I mean just because someone's opinion differs doesn't mean that it's necessarily wrong.
yes its a stat opff mind not a style of clothing well for most irt black metal and cloths not for me
i totally agree with all the choasbreed said in his postings on this topic i mean i hate tthat when sisiety labels u a gth juast cuz u wear all black and tey assume that all u liste to is death/black metal what bunch of narrrow minded assholes i hate society yea why can't we all get alomg ?
i like the way all of you are talking and i could say that i agree with all of you.,it is a stat of mind and i hate being called a goth too, plus we should except everyone as they are not for what they are into....great chat everyone...thanks
Gothic is a state of mind as Melody said. Seeing the beauty in peculiar things, having an appreciation for things that can be considered an oddity. It is both mind and perception. The style is just an added thing that we choose to express.
Modern society would define goth as a person who dresses in dark clothing, listens to dark music, is horribly depressed, cuts them selves, and moans about how hard life is and how much they want to kill themselves.
This, to me, is a kindergoth.
And this is also the reason I despise being called goth.
All I know is I look at life through blood colored glasses...not rose colored...most people will walk down a street and if there is someone starving in the gutter they will not even see that person....I call it a Fnord, some of you may have heard the term...some not... but I am incapable of doing this...even if I do nothing about it...i still will always see this darker side of life...it is part of who I am....some have said this is waht makes me goth....as I have even had people call me goth when I am wearing blue jeans and a tie dyed shirt....so it is definately a mental thing....
but damn hard to define...glad someone else started this one as I have been asking the same thing
i obvously agree with jannet cos it is really a stat of mind like i said be4,but i dont think its a religion like someone sugested
oki, I'm a sap, I agree with everyone heh
It's a state of mind, it's a life style, and it can be just inside you....
A label or a pigeon hole is not correct, it come from with in
A label is worthless. If you want to be goth than be goth but do it as you see it to be. There is in my eyes no clear cut definition for any label. Its all in the eye of the beholder.
most o' my friends are goth's, that doesn't mean i understand their religon, but I accept them for who they are, and they accept me too, so what else matters?
kittina its good to ecept them as they are but we are saying that its worthless to label someone and you are gonna come and label your friends....hmm i dont agree with that..the rest is good ppl it comes from inside...feel free to continue it
Memnoch, if you are in spiritual distress, goth is attractive. (Or maybe its just kindergoth that's attractive :-))
The gothic lifestyle gains momentum and popularity everyday... So it is only natural that people or groups would try to better define it.
At one time, goth was music. INXS, Violent Femmes, and other similar early 80s bands... But back then they didn't call us goth. We just wore black clothing, boots, and lots of eyeliner.
Today, I would have to say that goth is a lifestyle (That's why I called it the gothic lifestyle earlier). It is an adherence to a certain style of music, a certain style of dress, and a certain higher power philosophy (usually pagan of some derivative).
I don't think it needs to be any further defined than that. If you think about it, that is more strictly defined that other counter-culture genres like hip-hop or punk.
i think people veiw us as "goths" because we dont differ much at all. goths are morbid and listen to music that even we ourselves listen to. but to classify someone by their music and how they dress is bullshit. i saw good points being made in the posts and think the arguements are all good so i realy cant find anything to say that hasnt been said.
..."goth" is a time period. it is the dark ages of one's inner being. >oO
