dose the site mess up or is really slow for anybody ealse on the site or is it just my comp????

It seems slower than usual for me tonight too.

Late at night when a lot of people log on the server bogs down. The only solution is a faster server, which will run several thousand dollars. At this point in time, I can't justify the expense.

okay thnak you i was just wondering cuse i didnt know if it was just my comp or not.

I don't mean to come off crass, but it slightly pisses me off I spent my entire weekend upgrading the software end of VR's services, only to see little result during our prime-time hours.

The end result is that now more people can log in, which puts us back to square one... The server bogging down.

actually, i thought that this site gave me a virus.. but the virus wasnt from here, thank the Cailleach..

But keep in mind it could be your i.s.p too mine takes up alot of ram (aol) and i have cable too so that is always a factor.

I find at times it doesn't load things very fast.. or that when I go to the forum page and reading and if it takes awhile it will take me offline.

well regardless of the speed the big guy deserves a standing ovation for the herculean effort

as one of the few people who has been on and remained on for probably the longest time period in one day ... I just wanted to say this ... there are different times of the day when the sites speed goes up and down, due to the volume of users on here ... I don't even have to look at who's online to to know when there was a sudden shift from just a few users to many, just by the speed of how the pages turn ...

Having said that ... I just want to say ... THANK YOU CANCER ... all of y'r blood sweat and tears (ok well maybe not tears you don't look like a guy to cry over a web site problem) has paid off in full ... from the time I've joined until now you have made nothing but wonderful changes ... (and this is for everyone else as well) ALL to make this a faster, funner (yeah so it's not a word so what), more enjoyable place to be for ALL of us, not to mention at NO cost to us ... so how's about people stop bitchin about it being slow ...

speed is highly effected not only by the site, the amount of people but also by y'r own connection, and y'r own computers ... yes if you got problem with y'r computers it's going to effect y'r connection, which is going to effect y'r speed ... Nuff said >;^} >:^*

oh I'm not complaining one bit. he just asked if it happened to others.. your right it does depend on our computers and such.. and I am so greatful to have such a place to call home..

I would like to thank Cancer, he's doing a great job on VR. Bravo ~claps hands~ With things runnning slow. . . well if you have many things opened on your comp it splits the reaction time, I tend to over do that. EX: having music on, msn/aim/yim all on at the same time. . . several different internet sites open, maybe taking some pictures as well.

You bring up an interesting point...

For all you members out there that right click on links and select: open in new window, it won't get things done any faster. It just sends more requests to the server and slows things down more.

In January we averaged over 400,000 hits and 12,500 page views a day. Traffic for January was roughly 118 GB. Gigabytes, not gigabits.

I dread changing the server. It's a database nightmare. I'll have to take the site down for 1-3 days while the name servers transfer. And then there is the problem of dealing with the new server host, and hoping they live up to their bandwidth promises... Because if not, I'll have to move the server again.

You will be giving notice as to how or when this will take place before it does won't you?

What will I do, I'll go through Rave withdrawl ... not a pretty site ...

Any move will be announced well in advance. It will most likely happen on a weekend, as I will need a full 2-3 days to get everything done.

oh hell, im getting nervous already. by the way, i looked at the stats page, and whohoo! that is most excellent. how proud you must be. i think its way cool how everybody comes together. =)

Goddess knows how much work Cancer has to put into this site for it to work at even a fraction of how it is now. If pages are running really slow - especially if you're on say... in the middle of the night... think about it. It's a vampire site. What hours are vampires up and about?
Anyway. Thanks Cancer. This is an amazing site and I'm loving lurking here. All the effort is most appreciated.

i just want to say even if the sever slows its worth the wait i love this site and cancer u are doing a damn good job keeping it up and run so don't get to stressed out we all know ur doing ur best and i just wanted to say thanks

For some reason, I always have to log in twice. That's kind of a pain - but otherwise, it's working well.

If you have to log in twice, it's because of how your browser is handling cookies. Try different settings.

Yeah, I have noticed that before, and the computers at uni aren't exactly amazing but it doesn't bother me... but no vampirerave for a weekend... eek!

Hey Caner I understand the situation very well as I am a webadmin as well, maybe you should start a fund-raising activity through the member, I'm sure many would respond :)

After all its much due to the boom this Website is having, I cannot fail congratulating the prince for it! :)

Perhaps also with this number for members more sponsors should be seeked to advertise, dunno these are just friendly suggestions...
