Consider this: Four is a powerful number take the elements for example…
Now if you were to divide each day into fourths you would end up with 6 hours. Now lets assign them practical properties 6 hours of sleep, 6 hours of work, 6 hours of learning, and 6 hours of play. Now in a week there are 168 hours, and in each fourth portion there are 42 hours so if that is true then my question is:
Do you think that Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy was right but the question to life and everything is:
How do you live a perfectly balanced life each week in work, fun, learning, and sleep for the longest and/or fullest life possible? XD

while I'm skeptical about the answer to live, the universe and everything being a digit, let alone 42 (except maybe the digit 1, since there is but one everything and we are all one with it)
I think Douglas Adams nailed it on the Thurdays bit, where he stated something along the lines of bizarre and gloomy fates happening mostly on Thursdays of all days. "Never did get the hang of 'Thursdays'." There is a ring of truth to that.
On Page 42 of Bram Stokers Vampire he fails to admit the book is really based on the Royal Austrian Vampire Princess and that he was pressured to change the original gender? Ooops...The documentary continues into the life of Eleonore, and she is certainly a bit of an odd duck. She favors wolves’ milk as a drink, and also dabbles a bit with herbalism and other arcane studies to the extent that those around her question her sanity. Her death also had its own idiosyncrasies, and with much great miles of guesswork one could assume this is because the local people thought she was a vampire.
This is a straight faced documentary, filled with live action reenactments of Eleonore and her behaviors, all narrated with intriguing and alluding supposition which drags you, kicking and screaming if you insist, towards the film’s desired goal of making you believe that Bram Stoker wrote Dracula after being inspired by Eleonore’s story.

I like you answers but it does make one wonder doesn't it? I swear I can turn the most random things into profound truths hahaha...
There's nothing special about 42, give me a break. You can take any set of numbers, divide, multiply etc and get anything you want.
Try finding meaning in reality not a fiction book.
It interests me as to how you took this so seriously, Xzavier. I thought it was obvious that is was a joke, but then there is always someone that has to piss in the Kool-Aid. But since you feel like being serious for a bit lets do this…
Consider this:
There is truth in all lies, in fact if you have an idea chances are no matter how unlikely it is it will happen. Even if only written in a fiction book or made into a movie, song, poem, or just forever locked in your mind, whether you do it or someone else comes up with it pulling out of the collective thought that we share as living creatures it becomes real in a way. The very thought changes who you are and in effect everyone you meet from that moment on is now effected by it and so to the people that meet them and so on. The very fact that it was thought up makes it a truth even if wrong because it exists. So don’t knock fiction. It can teach as well if not better at times, because it expands the mind to the impossible and the unlikely provoking invention and innovation. And remember to laugh... XD
