what is the statute of limitation for self mutilation (cutting, burning, etc)? Is there one? Is the tiniest cut or burn from your own self too much, and a problem? Or is it just a way of control, or to release the tension? I'm curious as to what other people think of this. As for me, I feel it's a good way to release the tension IF you're careful. I clean the area and the blade before and after use, and have gone as far looking at diagrams of the veins and muscles, and comparing them side to side, so that I don't do any undue damage.
I know that as I'm not a doctor, and don't plan on becoming one, and didn't even finish anatomy class, I'm not the best one to make decisions about where to cut my body, but I know that I do the best I can do.
No flames, please.
Seriously, I want a mature discussion, not "you're sick, you need help"
If you feel I need help, feel free to PM me, so I can tell you personally that I'm getting it. And though I'm nowhere near happy with myself, I'm a lot better than I was a year, or even six months ago.
But back to the topic:
What do you feel is the turning point of self mutilation?
I for one am torn between believing its a form of stress-relief/self-control factor and on the other hand I wonder if it is indeed a mental disorder. I have had testimonies from cutters and SM practitioners that give equal claim to both sides.
I've done it to release stress and tension, however, self mutilation can cause sort of an addiction when the body releases endorphines. The endorphines released can make you "feel good" and when it gets out of control, then it is considered a mental disorder and will sort of be treated as an addiction in a mental hospital.
Is it just me or is there something very wrong about this thread.
You guys have to stop doing what you consider to be a stress relief and get some proper help!
