FORBES magazine recently interviewed Ex-Defense Planner Nick Pope for Britain and stated that Britain will not repel a UFO Invasion. What do you think of that? Seeing that Britain does not have a strong air presence in thier navy having no aircraft carriers to mobilize its airpower when needed.

Well, to start,I feel it could be foolheardy to automatically attempt to repel a race whos technology is obviously ahead of ours.More importantly, who might possibly be coming here in peace.

There are situations where you shoot first,and ask questions later..I just dont think this wold be one of them.

I agree with Oceanne (I think that's what it is/how you spell it. If not, I apologize).

If this race of beings, or people if you will, have managed to make it to us across however many million light years it took, one can only assume they have learned/evolved to cooperate with one another and are not out to exploit anything they find like humans would.

I believe it would be a terrible mistake if the governments immediately attacked an alien race, but what else could one expect really?

Why do everyone assume Sentient aliens would be these Paragons? We have space travel to a certain degree and yet haha just look.

Who's to state that any nation would have the capability to repel such an invasion, being that the tech of those coming would far outrank ours? What would you do if that were the case?

Well, first Alien are cool and funny. If they decided to come to visit Britain, must be because the Tea and Crackers and to chat with the queen. Kidding...listen, if a Alien race come to this planet, is to take over and to make us Slave, so, my idea to the British, Shoot those green piece of space bacteria and destroyed them before is too late.

We'd have to learn their tech very quickly and be able to use it against yjrm

if any beings from space was to come here, my 2 cents are:

1- to invade and enslave
2- destroy humans and takes the natural ressources of the planet
3-destroy the planet
4-(lets play pretend) see what their "children" creation have done so far
5-eat us/feed from us like cattle
6-anything is possible if they make it from so far we did not notice them, maybe they just needed remind themselve of what not to do to their home planet and people... ; pollution, crime abuse, starvation, greed, waisting food and basic needs while some don't have any and others just throw them away cuz they are stupid...

you know anything is possible, even that they could be what some call them (lets play pretend here again) angels, as angels are being not from earth but from up there.

So bottom line? shoot no shoot? don't matter, either way they are stronger, bigger, more powerful and surely wiser then us to have stayed away that long

I remember a star trek episode where the people of the planet were thinking nothing would make them move, even when Data (android) was sent to warn them, the "leader" disabled Data and laugh saying that it was all stupid and no one could touch them....

then Data reset and using the Entreprise ordered from space a beam to blow up their water supply then explain, that the ones coming for this planet were not going to be telling them to leave, or giving them time, they were coming with bigger weapons and would anihilate (sp) destroy all the people and take the planet. And that Data had warn them to leave he had accomodations and could take them to a safer planet.

The poeple had to see the water supply blow up from space/sky beam, to understand that their technology was not going to save them or stop the invaders they had to leave or die.

So I would tend to think if any being from up there was to come by, well its either to be nice or to kill us. So either way we are screwed if we think we can overcome them.

I'm french I am trying to put it in english, sorry if it comes out not as clear as rock water, still bottom line is the same: if they make it from wherever they are from to here, there is no way we can outfight them if they come with fighting goal, if they come in peace then maybe we are good.

Chess I must disagree with you. There are many examples in human history alone where a group that was told the same thing have won by making the war one of attrition which gives an edge to the home team.

I'm not really sure why people always assume that an alien race that was capable of traveling vast distances would be benign in their approach to other creatures. Intelligence doesn't always or necessarily translate into pacificity.

That having been said two factors have to be kept in mind.

1) Any race advanced enough to posses inter planetary or galactic travel would be so advanced that they would have no difficulty using our technology to make communication without a physical first contact.
Aliens seeking friendship would most likely be conservative in this way and they would study us, then reveal themselves in a manner which we could control. Allowing our leaders the time and opportunity to make formal introductions on a time line of our choosing.


2) Any race that showed up to our planet in large numbers, the kind that would cause enough alarm for us to try and repel them would not have diplomacy in mind. Only a military power shows up unannounced and in force.
So again no matter how they should up, if they just showed up one day then they aren't here to make friends.


If the British government doesn't feel like they would have the resources, or capacity to defend themselves against this kind of foe then the appearance of being a non aggressive society maybe their angle in this case and the reason for this declaration.
I'm not sure that would matter much in the presence of a superior force looking to gain a foot hold on our planet but who knows... playing dead might work. lol

I have noticed there to be an increase of UFO sightings whenever society has its level of consciousness raised.
eg. Larfe scale sporting events.

But then again -- It's the height of human arrogance to "humanize" an alien species. Who knows, they may be identical to humans, but they may not be. They may not think like us. Humans evolved from the same line as simians, which like us, are predatory creatures. However, if this alien race has evolved from a species that is prey, their mindset would be cooperation, thus leading them to be more inclined to be pacifists and diplomatic.

basic is basic: if you can travel such great distance in a time frame that allow you to still be alive and kicking, this means you also surely have the weaponery to blow the place up or blow the "living" up that are on it.

We can't find life forms for I do not know how far but far enough that even if we leave to try to reach the max we can we would not survive it, oxygen missing, food supply, time, gaz etch. So if a 'species' can make it then they surely can kick our ass, its actually logic. small earth, small people, big ship that don't even need to come on planet to blow us up

We can't even agree amongs our own species, we are constantly trying to kill or destroy or conquer or submit others, we are destroying the natural resosurces like rain forest and others so if alians come they may as well just watch us blow ourselves up at the rate we are going.

Even animals don't fight as much as we do.
