So I have my own thoughts about this, but I won't skew the initial discussion with my own thoughts :P

Can you explain your thoughts on the afterlife through scientific reasoning? I'm not trying to bash anyone's beliefs, I am just trying to inspire a healthy and fun discussion.

You are someone after my own heart, Poetic.
I have to make this short, but I really feel there is much that can be explained.Even if in part.
However, there is much that cant at this boint in time.

If you would like to delve into this more,I will love to get into this thread with both feet, once I return and am online again.

There are several threads in the archives about this, and maybe one to have a look at to kick up some ideas, and provide some scientific informaton about some thing, we might touch on,would be The Nature of Majick.1.2 and three..
Cant wait till Zav and a few others sees your thread too..

It should be a good conversation!!

Personally I have seen my "afterlife". As an atheist I contributed my "vision" to a mass dose of DMT, and Atropine. So that way it is possible that everyone will see something unique to themselves while in their final moments.

As an atheist, I have a sort of non-mainstream idea about what happens after we die.

The way I see it, one of two things will occur: either we will slip into the void of darkness from which we came, or our energy will live on, just in a different form. As of late, I'm more inclined to the idea of it living on. Looking at the laws of thermodynamics, we see a clearly proven point that energy can never be created nor destroyed, simply transferred. Wit that thought in mind, aren't we just a big bundle of energy? We produce heat and electricity all the time. Those are most definitely forms of energy. So when we cease to live, insofar as our brain shuts off and our respiration ceases, what happens to all that energy? It can't simply "disappear." It has to go somewhere.

Yep Dabs, good ol DMT.The conduit chemical to the spiritual realm.
Produced by the Pineal gland.
Which incidently,is very important in its relations to the Chakras and meditation.

The scientific explanation for the Idea of an After life is that it's a natural brain function.

The brain controls the body... the brain's job is to keep the body going and to protect it's self. Like in the case of Shock the brain will even shut the body off if the brain is in danger. Since Death is inevitable, the brain produces the notion and promotes the idea of an after life in order to avoid the truth of answering the question of it's own mortality.

In other words, the "after life" is a natural defense mechanism of the brain... it's a way for the mind to deal with a paradoxical situation. The minds ultimate catch 22.

For the record that's not what I believe, just saying that's what Science excepts as the answer.

Did you said, Science? Should I assume that more of the Scientist out there, do not Believe in the After life, created by an euphoria of scriptures, created by Humans. For scientist, after you die, and those 23 trillions cells in your body start going belly up, there is absolutely no place to go, just to a hole in the ground, or perhaps, a tiny square at a local cemetery, if you have some money safe.

Having formerly been a christian vicar and now an ordained pagan/satanist I really doubt you can use science in that area. It just seems difficult to prove ethereal existence with physical evidence. You'd need an inordinate amount of proof, and even with the best methods, there will still be heavy skepticism.

I was dead once... on the surgery table, for about 1:47 ( minutes:secondes) and declare dead by the doctor, I must admit it shook my faith and beleif, and made me turn into science in my research, I saw no light, no tunel, no deceases parents, nothing. (unless the hydro bill was not paid or they turn off the lights) there was nothing.

Doctors told me in the past that when people have the impression of seeing their deceases loved one, it cuz of the synapse in the brain making connexion as it dies and the light is simply the lamp they place over your pupils in your eyes to check for activity of the pupils. But then again I did not see that so, science did not explain that to me either.

Anyhow just my 2 cents :)

Except that I was fighting to get out.
No concept of time.
No light.
I woke up 5 days later,in a bubble suit,with about 8 faces over me.

Science really wouldn't be able to substantiaye an afterlife experience. One problem is that afterlife is not a thinkable item. it cannot be felt, seen, and there's no way to chronicle such an experience, to the a provable method

If the physics are in place to support it,then it can be deemed possible,at least.

I was deemed clinically dead, yet here I am today. I do not remember any tunnels, light, dark or anything else drawing me to them, yet I do remember seeing myself in the hospital bed with others around me, but that is all I remember.

Doru...

Given what you already know to be true... that event should not be a shock to you.

To be honest I'm not sure you can explain the afterlife via science as this is a spiritual belief and experience. Having visions or not could depend entirely on your personal beliefs, substances in your system at the time, circumstances which led you to be 'dead' at the time etc There are just too many variables.

Sooner or later we'll all find out...

I'm not sure about how scientific this might be but here it goes.

I think I have many theories about this and one of them is the fact that our body is probably connected to another source of energy that's feeding a signal to the brain to receive consciousness. That our real selves are something more than we can truly comprehend here and this body is merely a portion of what we truly are in energy form.

Another theory is that energy truly never dies, so they say by science. So if this is true then that means that energy could transcend to another world entirely or perhaps we possess energy like forms that are different than the ones on this plane of reality.

I believe personally that we do go somewhere and that somewhere might depend on what we think of in this reality or perhaps it's somewhere personal. I also believe we are more in those forms than what we are now. I feel that there is always something missing from me no matter how much of my self I discover. Like I am forgetting something. I've had visions of certain places also, and then speaking to another, a friend who had the exact same vision of the exact same place. So with that experience I feel there must be something, plus my experiences with magick and meditations..there are just things that you cannot explain but just feel so right. I always try to be logical about it but I feel that this sorta thing cannot always be explained logically. I hope this was enlightening. I often ponder about it. :P

Energy can't be created or destroyed. I do not believe science will ever prove or disprove the existence of an afterlife. I believe its a matter of faith. This question has been asked since the dawn of man. It is mysterious and is indeed the final frontier.
