How do you feel about it, and do you follow it's path?

It's obvious you follow it, and that's a good standard of conduct as any. But, don't you think they deserve credit on your profile where you've pasted it?

well if you read it and by nomeans do I mean to sound disrespectful, I worded it my way for my house.... I thank you for your words

I agree that it seems that you've adopted it for your house, and you've enhanced it as you've done so. But, and I hope you don't take my words the wrong way, you might want to add a small note that the code is based on the Black Veil and maybe provide a link to the original. If not to present homage, then to cover your legal derriere.

I agree with ElderDaniel.

In all places where The Black Veil can be found, the request to keep it in its original form and to represent those who originally wrote it is always documented on the page. I too am not trying to pick at the excellent thread you have started, but for someone who I take respects it as I do, I just wanted to put my point across, which I imagine you would understand.

I do try to follow the Black Veil, and it was of great inspiration to me, and has helped me with certain matters (I will never forget the first time I read it!)

My favourite rule is the final one, as I have always been a strong believer in seeing the beauty in all things, and as vampirism becomes more cinematic and 'blood-of-the-lowley-human' orientated, I like to keep strongly in touch with the need to see the beauty in blood, people, plants, animals, and our own minds despite the influences that try to tempt us otherwise.

do you all feel it should be fallowed word for word or, in my case i use it as a set of guidlines an a basses of how i conduct myself, in all honesty i dont follow it word for word

be nice to have a link for it up here some where so people not familure with it could read it

I see it more as guidelines, as I do with most things :-)

Yes, I try to live by the pillars of the Black Veil, but it does prove to be difficult.

How do you find it difficult? It would be intetestig to hear what aspects you find hard...

Vincent, I'm not sure anything in this world should be followed word for word. I too use it as a guidline on how to conduct myself, butI usually do end up following the code almost exactly anyway...

I have a problem moreso with unintentionally disrespecting people... so that is something that i am always repremanded for.

and i'm never going to conduct myself to a code of any sort.

don't get me wrong here i'm not saying the code is crap, it'd be excellent if there were people living all the things in the code. i just think a few of the points are natural logic behaviour anyway (for an intelligent person that is)

The Black Veil isn't a religion though, it's just a code of conduct.

some of it people follow without realising. but it's human to break some of them in certain situations. respecting your elders for example. could be broken if your elder doesn't like you.

I had never read it until I came here to VR a couple of months ago and I was struck by many of the similarities with my own perception of how I like to lead my life in any case...but...

I have felt as though I have not shown as much discretion as I might have in some posts...not specifically on VR...but in other places...

There has been more than one occassion where I felt my opinion was devalued by more senior members of the community, not here on VR, I might add.

Controls have been severly lacking in my life, but this comes from an absecnce of knowledge and guidance more than anything else and I am on a bloody steep learning cure...excuse the pun...

Lifestyle and family...hmm...I lead a 'normal' life..I work my ass off and I pay my bills, but there is no longer a family for me and sadly, there surely can never be again- my friends are my only family now...*sniff...*

Havens and territory...well...my extended 'clan' (what our various loosely associated groups could best be described as- tribalist really) have begun to centralise in a particular area of our city...we now have several places of sanctuary...but I being the only person of this nature amongst us, enjoy the run of the place...I would surely offer it to those friends in need if ever they should find themselves in the southwest of the UK...message me if you are heading this way...I will do my utmost to accomodate you.

I have not spoken with any that might be considered 'Elders' of this life, but I feel I am a responsible enough person to hold myself and my friends together...

I personally know of no doners in the UK and I have some conflicting information in regards to their position in society...some seem to be non-vampyric and specific to one type of feeding method, others spread amongst the different ways of drawing and yet others appear to be vampyres that have access to such a wealth of supply that they use their resource to aid others...

As for idealism...my profile pretty much covers how I view life...I can't say that I am a leader of vampyres...for I know none outside of the net...but I am a leader of my group I would hope that this imbues with some sense of responsibility...

so...this is my view on the black veil and how it relates to life for me...

Wow stabb as always I love your comments ....Well my house and I live by the Pillars of the black veil but we changed some of the words , so there will be no misunderstandings and in my house I added some laws that are not up on my profile....I myself know personally Afew of the creators of the veil....I was born this way both my mother and father are of the blood.. so I was raised in the life..This is who and what I am, no it's not the way I was brought up far as the veil go's but when I got older and moved out I met three friends I now say are family Father vincent ,Lady page and Father Sebastian of then Clan Sabertooth of New York...I moved three yrs. ago to VA and asked Father Vincent for his blessing to open a house out here .. and well here we are....So yes we honor the veil to the T.

What I meant LadyAshlee, was that all things with a strong moral principles are hard to follow solely, but it is better to attempt to and make mistakes, then to ignore it, and as long as you acknowledge that you respect the code and try to follow it, then you are being true to yourself ;-)

I fully respect the Black veil and so does everyone in the house that I am. Personally I try to follow it the best I can. It is great that there was a set of guidelines made to help guide us along this path. Seems like its doing a great job keeping the vampire comunity together.

I believe in everything that the black veil has to offer and decree... Just like with the 10 commandments, its good principles but sometimes hard as hell to follow...

I may be uneducated, but I think this is the right path to true knowledge, but with groups, there are natural "leaders" and "elders" and this to me, can become out of control like government, and people just looking for "power". On the other hand, though, the power of numbers, and order may not be such a bad thing if the "power trip" thing doesn't get in the way of such groups.
But. Rules are meant to be broken, and they will because noone has the exact same beliefs..

You sound a lot more versed on the subject than you think, and the point of hierarchy is a good one, people find comfort in havig auhority to follow, it diminishes responsibility from the individual. However, it is the concentration on the self that attracts me to the Black Veil; I see it as more of a guideline to intraction with others and perspctive on the self and environment, whereas other codes can often be placed too much on conduct with other people, and status symbols.

The best way I can explain it, is the energy 'field' around a person, and the conotations the type of aura a person has can bring when interpreted. Thee is some interesting informaiton in this very thread on how to try and see them, and you can find some more detailed information if you google it (Ive done so many times, but am neve intelligent enough to record the website addresses.)

Now my stupidity has reached its peak... he Black Veil is a code of ethics and guidelines, whic you can find in the Vampire Database under the Articles Link. I would suggest that you read that and then came to your own conclusion based on your life.. it would be nice to hear what you think.

I follow it to the most as I can, which is, pretty much all of it except the elder thing. Sorry, just because your old, doesn't mean you know everything. Sorry I have people at work like that and show them up on things they "thought" they knew.

As some have mentioned in this discussion, they have been following the concepts presented within the The Black Veil. It feels like I know this information and yet I have never read it before. Though I believe we all function from some kind of "guidleines" within our given communities, The Black Veil is appealing to me because it emphasis respect of self and others and yet advocates for one to stay true to ones nature.
I agree that it is not for all but it has aspects that are found in many groups throughout the world.

ok to the point....the veil is a good set of guidelines...I will not say rules....as rules are inflexible....and I generally avoid inflexibility in my life....they are guidelines as none of us is perfect and All will screw up at some point....

I follow my own code which is largely similar to the veils.....but it is worked out to be optimum in my own life, no set of ideas will work for every person

I think they are more like guide lines rules are set to be followed and not asked of theese are in my opinion more of conduct and honor and should be seen as guidelines

Well up until awhile ago i had no idea about The Black Veil so i read Lord Ryu's profile....Thanx for the opportunity to learn something new.A long read but worth it...I follow most of what i read in some way but it is all very much common sense i feel.

I think that some who claim to be Queen or a Lord or just one in a place to call them selves a leader should read and understand the Black Veil....To better serve the Vampyric Nation...

I think any path you choose to follow should be met with an open mind and a willingness to always learn more-and that any path should be a guide, not necessarily a carved in stone set of rules with no deviation...

I've only briefly read any information on this, so not sure if it is something I could or would follow on a regular/daily basis.

I believe all things of this nature should be used as a guideline for those who feel it holds some value for them, though. You can't always follow every 'code' to the letter.

As Usual I would have to agree with Daermon. I do not live my life without respect for all things around me, nor without the flexability of changing these so called guide lines to life as needed. I do however admire anyone who choses to live their life the way someone else has suggested to them. Well maybe not. BUt I guess thats just the Gangrel in me..

i try to fllow the Veil but there has been once when i did not follow what the Lord and Keeper said it was a measure for our safety...and was reprimanded and felt disgusted with myself for displeasing them i will not allow it again
