An e-mail/ sms message has been telling EVERYONE that Mars would be near the Earth's atmosphere this August 27 (about 34.65 M) and the e-mail said, that MAKE SURE that YOU will have to look at the sky on August 27, at 00:30 (or 12:30 a.m.) to see this "amazing" thing and also, the next time Mars will be THIS close to earth will be on the year 2287 (that's 282 years from now!)

BUT before you get a little too excited on this e-mail..read this .

It's actually part hoax, part truth. Mars will be extremely close to Earth this month, especially towards the end of the month. Nearly as close as it was in 2003. However, it is impossible for Mars to appear anywhere near the size of the moon. It will, however, be brighter then any star in the sky.

Why wait? Mars is already pretty visible in the sky, and will just become increasingly so up through about the end of August. Remnants of the Persaid meteor shower should still be visible as well, for those in the northern hemisphere.

The way it was described last time it happened was that mars went from being a pin prick in the sky to being the size of 3 pin pricks. So you wont see much anyway.

Yeah it is a hoax, although I've been having this recurring nightmare about the moon and planets coming very close to the earth and then the earth explodes. I posted alot about this in recurring nightmares not that long ago. It's crazy how close they are related.

I also posted something about Mars being closest to the earth 2 days before Halloween this year. That is when it should be the closest of the year. I frequent sky/star watching, and keep up on this stuff alot. The best site I found for info is Earth and Sky
