I was watching a documentary about the Amityville house (from The Amityville Horror). This thread isn't about that house specifically.

The question I pose is...

What if haunted houses aren't really haunted by spirits; rather the memories of the occurrences were somehow etched in time and only certain people can witness or interact with the memories?

As far as moving chairs and paranormal activity; could the memories (as opposed to spirits) themselves be alive?

I understand the question posed may not make sense to some. Think of an old worn out pair of shoes. Those shoes tell a story of the person that once wore them. What if the right person put on those shoes; could they see the story? More importantly, could they interact in the story the shoes tell?

I know already that quartz crystals have the ability to hold information.. based on the sides that make up the point. One memory or secret can be assigned to each side. The holder can erase them of such so that they may allow new information to reside.

I believe that a lot can be recorded in inanimate objects. There is much proof as to why, but you'd have to be interested in looking around a great deal.. following one book to several others and whatnot.

I've felt keenly the inspiration of certain objects on me. I never really brought it to knowledge, because I do so much based off of 'abnormal' perception.
It's really the norm for me to look at things without my eyes.. I've always seen far beyond many in these interests.. Of course, the factors in my life were a role. A therapist told me, "I'm surprised you've made it out alive."
I don't tell anyone what's happened anymore, because I'm not surprised at it.
Anyhow.
Many get sudden glimpses of the past or other play-outs that they have never seen or imagined anywhere. I could bet many of these have to do with objects or the lands surrounding.

I suppose I am Moonie. I just looked up residual energy hauntings. I didn't know there was a name for it. As I said, it was just a thought I had.

Good to know that I wasn't the only one who has had this same question at some point.

The world is made up of energy. No matter what we do we are expelling some form of energy; thinking, writing, moving, etc. In the event of something traumatic (that's what most people have said is the reason to a haunting like this) it does leave an impression.

I like to think of it as there was so much energy it left a 'burn' in time. And it will keep repeating, until whenever. I would think that at some point the energy would lessen and the haunting would stop all together.

I have a few years of 'pass time investigating' under my belt. I've learned a few terms along the way. ;)

it would seem that different physical objects and sometimes physical locations can record moments of high emotion and randomly play them back.
there are also intelligent interactions that are not just recordings, so there would seem to be a range of various possibilities.
