Since the dawn of written history people have had a belief in ethereal beings called faeries, especially spiritual beings that inhabited or protected trees known oftentimes as treefolk, tree spirits, dryads, the green man, or jack in the green. What information can be reaped from these ancient tales? does anyone know additional information about this particular fey or has anyone had an encounter with these beings?
Faeries are something else altogether. Some get them mixed up with sprites. The term Faery comes from Faery folk or Fair ones and a whole list of other things but the tiny little creatures some refer to as faeries are really sprites.
Here is an amusing site that gives some information on the various types of sprites.

You can read an article I wrote here that goes into the basics about fairies but I don't go into sprites who would be connected to nature and the woodland.

most of the folklore i hear of sprites is that they are small beings who look like a mix of flowers, people, and insects who nurture fruits and flowers, but my interest is purely in treefolk at the moment for i've had brief encounters with one.
