I have an appreciation for the Native American Indian and the Supernatural culture. The link fore mentioned is a story on how one N.A.I. story on how Vampires came about. For me these are synonymous. I chose to share this with the Veil for 2 reasons. First to add to the vampire references… take it for what you value. Secondly diversity; If you don’t care for it then don’t look. I was sharing.

Im intrested in flowwing this up some more, the second mythos on the page was famililar sounding, ((im catougha band cherrokee) but the first one diddnt ring a bell, do you have anymore information on antive american vamprism?

I have personally studied many cultures, and among them, the Native American Indian. I hope this post will aide in your quests.

The University of Oklahoma may be the best source of Native America History.
The data base there hold's nearly all census record, as well has recorded story / written language.

There is a name for this in my Cree tribe...windigo...its somewhat means like cannibalism and wanting human flesh, but it is what we would call a vampire

I did like this. It helps the validity of vampires. Like angelic or demonic creatures, vampires can be found in completely separate cultures all over the world.

The reason why I was interested is because of the little saying I have adopted, that with all stories and legends, there is a grain of truth in there at least.

yes, most of the legends sayings holds some truth to it. i'm interested in those sayings myself, and i'll be sure to talk to a close friend of my family, named Red Cloud, and ask her about various sayings, and if you wish, i could post them here.

it seems to me vampires are quite cross cultural...

all ancient peoples seem to have their own form of vampires...

makes you wonder if the "lilth" story is true...

This is incredibly interesting. I have read other myths/legends that seem to stipulate that "a bad spirit" male/female sleeps with a human and produces a child. This child is inherintly evil, powerfull and to be feared for it only wants our destruction.
At the same time however, my belief is that which is not understood is often feared. The Native Americans have some of the worlds richest traditions and stories and among them, I believe is a grain of truth.

I am part Wampanoag (southeastern Massachusetts tribe), and I remember reading about the stories of windigos back around the time of the Salem witch trials. They say that witches that were left to hang overnite (but not dead yet), were taken by the windigo, and came back to seek revenge on their accusers.

The word used to describe the creature is just a reference noun because it has no name. The word itself is just one of the many ways to spell it. The term derives from the Algonquian root word "witiku", though throughout the tribes and times the term's spelling varies: Wendigo, Windego, Wetiko, Windago, Windikouk, and so on....and all are scarry
