lol, actually, to get back on topic, i do have the same question i had earlier, is this just for satanists? or can others say how they would celebrate if they WERE satanists? or even if they weren't?

I presume they'd celebrate that Satanism isn't just a passing fad like alot of people thought, 41 years & still apparently going strong

Christains celebrate christmasss. and noris, youl so it stands to reason the darker side of life have the same principals. I don't think I'd send a gift or a sacrefice but an acknowlagement is nice

not in retrospect, the world is only a few billion years old, and thats pretty young in hinsight(sp?), i mean the universe is only supposed to live for a few more trillion trillion years. 41 years is not even a lifespan. so no, its not really that long. when it reaches 1000 or even just 100 years, THEN its been around a good long time. and if i WAS a satanist, i'd just do the acknowledgement, like the other guy said, and since i'm not, i'll do like i said

satanism was not around when no one practiced it, just like christianity, and if you believe in gods and devils, just because the devil was around since whenver does not mean the religion was around that long

there are many who would argue that the church of Satan as founded by LaVey became defunct in the previous century.

many of the priests of the original church of satan defected away from the church when LaVey started letting people purchase the role of the priesthood.

the church of satan also filed for bankruptcy in the early 90's under one of the bankruptcy chapters, thereby dissolving the original church of satan.

HOWEVER, with this being said, the original concepts of the founder LaVey are NOT dead. they are alive and well in those who seek their own path towards eternity and live for themselves, for it is truly the self that endures beyond all things in life.

though i am not a member of the church of satan, I shall celebrate one of the influences of my personal path to power, treat myself to lunch, and proclaim, "long live jenova, for she is becoming all."

except that i also believe that man evolved from other less developed creatures, creatures that could not congition any god whatsoever. if THATS is true, then the idea of gods has only been around what? a few thousand years?

i am NOT a darwinist, i hate the dude, he was a psycho, but even crazies give good insight sometimes. but i do enjoy hearing other religions and i do accept tid bits here and there from this or that teaching.

ah, ok. well, no offense taken, i was trying to do too many things at once. but i understand that.

since i believe in neither satan nor god as seperate entities i must just say one thing, if satan has many faces couldn't one of those faces be god? if so it would make sense that most christian religions actually worship satan and satanists god?

therefore it would make sense to practice all religious holidays just in case i were right? this is what i would do if i actually believed in either of these entities. no disrespect meant just my personal opinion.

May I say that this type of discussion is what I joined the rave for. Excellent views on all. When I first read the question, I was interested. Not knowing anything about this topic I stayed to read. I am sure that I have an opinion now.

I believe as stated above. If I am to be in harmony with the world around me, I must be aware of the differences among us. To be ignorant of others beliefs is self serving. As I become aware, it is up to me as how I want to celebrate any holiday.

Hmm...to me this whole concept is just a human way of perceiving things that go on around us.

I commend people for daring to be different and embracing a different view and belief but to me it is equally counterproductive as....other groups...

Firstly I'd like to thank Lestatsdarkling for posting this thread in the first place. Us Satanists usually get a hard time from the majority of people who suffer from the mis-conception we dance around naked in churchyards at midnight sacrificing small children and animals. LOL

As for our Dark Master, Anton, well I'm pretty sure he would be turning in his grave if he knew HIS church charged to actually become a 'fully fledged' member. (note to Nicolai re:walking on water post .... Anton existed. There is no proof Jesus did and if you read some of the text translated in the Dead Sea Scrolls, there is now a theory that early Christian's actually worshipped an hallucinogenic plant)

Back to Satanism though. It has become a more widespread;and dare I say; accepted religion these days with many people becoming sick and tired of the hypocrisy of the christian faith. If 'their' God is so benevolent why let young children die and millions die in wars, famines etc??

Satanism allows us to grow as individuals as we are our own gods, in our own right. A Satanist's birthday is the most important date in a satanist's calendar.

So, Anton...on this day 41 years ago when you founded your church I would just like to say .... 'Ave Satanas'.

The Church of Satan could indeed have gone by any other name, depending where in the world Anton lived, it just so happened he lived in the U.S. and named the religion 'Satanism' and lets not forget... if it wasn't for Satan, the church wouldn't have been in business for so long lol. And yes, another point .... Satan, Lucifer and the devil are all separate entities so to speak. A fact many people do not realize.
