what drives such individuals to hunt for paranormal activities and what do you look for when searching for any kind of paranormal activity?
to those that have an attraction to the paranormal,when did you first realize that you did was it a experience and if so could you share with us what happened and how you felt when this occured

I guess tis just the feeling that you are part of something bigger than yourself and discovering the unknown.

When I was 10 years old we were staying at our Uncles House in Mississippi , he lived next to a grave yard and I saw a lady in White. My cousins couldn't see her but my sister and I did . Later when I we were old enough to under stand our mom told us we had a gift that we could see earth bound spirits. Our mom was a medium. Let me tell you its a gift we wish we didn't have , cause it is scary at times. especially when others don't understand.

being able to see things that others don't is fairly disturbing. i have that ability and usually end up living in a house or walking down the wrong street and poof! let me tell ya..it is not nearly as exciting as people make it out to be..it is down right freaky at times.

i think that ability can be hard to have unless one knows how to controll it and not have fear of such things of that nature

I have been able to see and sence spirits and ghosts for as long as I can remember. I am told stories of my talkeing to people no one else could see from the time I learned to talk.. and doing the happy babbeling thing babies do before that. But the thing that convienced my father to allow Elk to train me was when I was out back when visiting him.. talking away to .. no one they could see... so Elk calle dme over and asked who I was talking to and altho I thought they were nuts when they told me to describe her.. I men they should be able to see her. But I knew Elk never asked a question without a reason.. even at 5 lol. So I dutifuly described the lady I was talking to. And my dad paled ( a neat trick for a full blood Navajo lol) and just told Elk he would withdrawl all resistance to my training. Later when I asked what was going on my dad showed me a photo album... and let me flip thru it till I found the lady I had been talking to. It was his mother that I had never met.. nor seen a pic of till then.

Often the spirits appear to be just like other people to me.. I am not always able to tell they are not real liveing people.. and mae a fool of myself when I say sorry or parden me to no one lol.

I have learned to deal with it. Its a gift/curse... depending on how long ago I made a fool of myself.

Paranormal activity has always been a mystery to most everyone. I would think that people hunt for paranormal activity in hopes to make contact and try to find answers to a lot of questions such as:

what happens when we die, is there a God and a Devil, why certain spirits torment people and families...... there are many questions to be answered.

it probably is a sense of fear....trying to see the unknown

I would suggest it was a sense of trying to understand what is happening in the larger world. Some people do it by researching other civilisations and others by helping their community. People that study and hunt paranormal are trying to understand the same thing, on a different scale.

its the adrenaline rush.. most hunters are type a personalities ..thrill seekers too

i have never personally went out of my way to search for paranormal activity but with shows such as sitings,ghost hunters and even the x-files it has awakened some curiosities in me and i now catch myself wondering what it's like to be a investigator of such activities

I have an interest in the paranomal because I have always been interested in things that humans do not fully understand and what most consider dark and try to stay away from. What got me interested in the paranormal? It wasn't an experience it was just a need to understand things, like why some people are still here after they have died, it was basically the want for more knowledge on the subject.

it had gained my interest at a young age. 10 to be exact. but at that time i didnt have any clue as to what was going on.

from then untill i was 16 i had no idea what was going on with me, then my sister introduced me to the world of the paranormal. have been there every since.

it had escaped my mind until now but when i first began getting into such unexplained activities i recall one day recording music or so i thought on the old cassette players and when i went to listen alls i could hear was low whispers and that has facinted me but it has been so long since that incident occured,now days i see that paranormal hunters have so much eqipment that they use such as heat sencors etc..if you are a ghost hunter are there any tools...specific tools that you use to help you find what you are in search of?

there are many things that do help now a days. was trained in the old school ways of hunting but adapted tot he new technology that has emerged just for this reason. they have infra red lenses that help identify cold spots, a good digital voice recorder with the right program can also definately enhance finding what one is looking for.

iv'e noticed that with todays technology that computers have been used for such things as well in searching for paranormal activity.

I think the main drive is curiosity.

i think it is a good thing about using computers for this. the old school ways of doing this consisted of, tape recorders, mirrors, flour (yes i know this is strange but had consistancy with hunts) lol.

paranormal hunters fear the unknown and try to make it known to explain it and leave no mystery

I am no professional Investigator, But I go to paranormal investigations, for the experience of going along WITH experienced, Professional PI's.. they don't get scared AND they dismiss EVERYTHING as not paranormal until they cannot explain WHAT it is.. OR if there is sufficiant Evidence FOR.
It is a fab atmosphere and I have come away with some brilliant memories including a poltergeist experience.

And I can't wait for my next event

maybe its the fact that they have lost someone and want to make sure they are in a good place.

I am a physical medium like my mother before me. which in lame mans terms I like witch board see earth bound spirits one exception they talk to me and at times that can get creepy and witch board this is why i can not do your job. Because when I was 8 years old my step dad died and while walking up to the coffin and i am not sure if this happens at all funerals but there is a line of men you shake hands with I was shaking hands with relatives
my great grand father that passed away when i was about 6 i had forgotten about him till i shook his hand and looked up at his face a couple of other men but close to the casket was my step dad the casket was closed up till the time we as a family reached it .My mother had her hands on my shoulders saying Ann hurry up stop stalling I turned and said mom i am shaking hands with grandpa and I thought we are here for daddy shawns wake?She looked at me and said we are why do you ask? and she was angry with me but i didn't understand the loss of a partner at the time i didn't like my step dad any ways i said because i just shook his and he smiled at me. We reached the casket and they opened it and i looked in his eyes moved ok witchbord is that supposed to happen? and he squoze my hand. I screamed so loud i started crying in hysterics cause i hated him so bad any ways i said what happened out loud i was ushered out in to the hall ways told it was natural for the nerves to jump after death i was not ok with it i said dudes still alive.
and i was not going to change my mind.
but that's not when i started seen the dead that's just what started me seeking answers to what it was that was happing to me.

it could be the hype you get of thinking o revealing the unknown

I think when people go hunting for paranormal activities they just want to explain what is unexplainable, but a lot of them want to be famous and those are the people who ruins it for the true paranormal hunters...

I agree raven I do it to find answers i am not famouse I do not charge and when i go its a one on one with the person seeking help were his priest can no longer keep comming over to put holy water in every cornor of the house.

I've never seen anything paranormal while awake but in my dreams I see my parents who are both passed on. I feel them while awake as well.

well the only thing i can say is that my other house has a strong paranormal presence. But every time i attempt to see it or experience it, nothing happens. I guess some people can't and some can.

They want to know what they fear, or be able to prove it doesn't exist.. Humans are.. Humans.

I disagree with you there sanity. I think most Paranormal Investigators are looking for 100% proof that some of the things that are actually put down to paranormal cannot possibly be, and to prove also that the paranormal does exist.

i have to say that being a ghost hunter for 17 years does make one the greatest skeptic of them all. one has to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that it cannot be explained in any manner for it to be even considered paranormal. i really enjoy this thread bloodxcreep. thank you for posting it.
