the concept of alter egos and double spirits appears in the folklore, myths, religious concepts, and traditions of many cultures throughout human history.

In Ancient Egyptian mythology, a ka was a tangible "spirit double" having the same memories and feelings as the person to whom the counterpart belongs. In one Egyptian myth entitled, The Greek Princess, an Egyptian view of the Trojan War, a ka of Helen was used to mislead Paris of Troy, helping to stop the war

In Norse mythology, a vardøger is a ghostly double who precedes a living person and is seen performing their actions in advance. In Finnish mythology, this is called having an etiäinen, i.e., "a firstcomer"

In Breton mythology as well as in Cornish and Norman French folklore, the doppelgänger is a version of the Ankou, a personification of death.

Contemporary English folklore contains the story of Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon who was supposedly seen walking through the drawing room of his family home in Eaton Square, London at the same time that he had gone down with his ship, the HMS Victoria, after colliding with HMS Camperdown.

Have you ever experienced anything like this.. What happened? was it your Doppleganger or a close person to you?

I went to see what the difference was between bilocation and a doppleganger. Also many times one sees the spirit of another just after death which I don't believe is what is meant by a doppleganger. Here is one definition of them:

"The doppelgangers of folklore cast no shadow, and have no reflection in a mirror or in water. They are supposed to provide advice to the person they shadow, but this advice can be misleading or malicious."

This is similar to the original idea of a daemon but they give inspiration.

Many different types of doppelganger have arisen in cultures around the world. A doppelganger may be an "evil twin," unknown to the original person, who causes mischief by confusing friends and relatives. In other cases, the double may be the result of a person being in two places at once, or even an individual's past or future self. Other times, the double is merely a look-alike, a second individual who shares a strong visual resemblance. The goals of the doppelganger often depend on the role it plays for the original person.

It seems like an evil alter ego. I have also read that it can be a spirit that takes on the person's appearance trying to usurp the original life. I personally have never witnessed this phenomenon that is so prevalent in a lot of folklore. Often they have been known to be seen before a death or be an omen of an illness. I personally find a distinction between bilocation and dopplegangers.

Strangely enough doppelgangers kind of exist somewhat, they are not supernatural and don't have the same memories or personality. I am not merely talking about good look alikes, I have met some humans and have then met at some point later in life, a near exact copy of them, the hair is what is usually different and no, they were not twins or any form of relation.

heh I'm guessing nature just tends to re-use some templates when forming a human's bone and facial stucture.

I view a Doppleganger as something completely different than a spirit of someone recently passed.One is flesh as the other is spirit. I've even had the thought at times that the doppleganger could possibly be the 'other half' of a said person...the good of one...the bad of one,split off into two beings. Such as one having morals,filters,compassion,as the other has the opposite.

i was stopped bye police in the next town over from me claiming i marched the description of a missing person so much so that the detectives came down and had to get my id my birth certificate but i was never allowed to see her pic strange

I experience this kind of thing quite frequently. I must have a very common set of features.

There's a chick who lives in the same town as me. People will swear up and down that's it me. They will even approach her thinking it's me. They'll get nice and close to and then see... Nope. Not me. I find it a little bit annoying. People will swear they saw me with some one, give me the third degree, and it truly, wasn't me.

My second experience with is open to skepticism. I barely believe it myself and wonder if it was really many cases of deejavu.

As a kid many members of my family have seen me walk to into a room, perform a various action, etc. only to realize later, that I wasnt there. All of these incidents occurred in one specific location (my house). Some of the encounters were malicious and others were completely mundane.
