Lammas is upon us and to be honest I don’t know where the year has gone.
I noticed fresh corn in the stores and plenty of berries and more, all signs of the harvest and a time of gatherings and sharing …. Time to start a new skill or path write a story or song.
Do you support Lammas and if so what do you do this special time?
(I sometimes think im the only witch on here)
On Saturday the 2nd will celebrate with an open Lammas ritual under the redwoods in Live Oak Park. We do all eight sabbats every year now since 1968. Since it is an open ritual anyone interested may attend, as long as they are respectful.
I attend rituals and make food for the ritauls pertaining to that holiday
Lughnasadh, also called Lammas, is the Celebration of Harvest and begins what is called "the chase of Lugh". Lugh is the Celtic Sun God and He rains down upon the crops, living within the golden fields. This is the time of the first harvests. At this celebration we give thanks to the Earth for its bounty and beauty. It is from these harvests that we eat through the upcoming winter. Honoring the God Lugh, games and sports are played to celebrate strength and good health. The grain Goddesses Demeter and Ceres are also honored. This is a time to harvest the dreams planted earlier in the year.
I belong to an alternative group that caters to people with Alternative sites--this information is from a webpage that I created for that group under a different pseudonym. I am not Wiccan, but I do follow the Wiccan Sabbats. If anyone wishes to read more of the Sabbat, you can go to this link:
History of Lughnasadh (Lammas)
Of course I celebrate it, Time to start harvesting souls for Samhain
A man with something from the Necronomicon is going to study Pagan traditions? What? Why the downgrade?
I am going to take time to enjoy the day in meditation on the blessings the Goddess has bestowed upon me at this time of harvest.
Happy holiday, friends. :)
HHW
We all have opinions, why would someone who read a fictional book be downgraded lol

Well, this is certainly very interesting.... And I'm curious to know why he'd be considered downgrading also.... I actually getting pretty interested...
well, lavisbre, seeing as how i've met far too many poser witches, vampyres, and otherkin, i wouldn't doubt if you and only a few others were truely a witch on this site. I have not heard of the lammas, is it an ethic code or theory?
I use a candle to represent the harvest Mother
I make gingerbread
This is the time for the cycle of rebirth.
i write down all that has harvest in my life with Thanks and burn it.
I plant a tree to give back to the Earth.
After eating some of the gingerbread...I take it outside as a offering. Where I have buried my ashes.
Whatever you do as long as your intentions are good.
XT read Psi Vamps post above about Lammas if you want to know what it is.
Our Lammas ritual was attended by about 40 adults and a dozen children. It was a beautiful day in the park, and all attending were blessed by the Grain Goddess.
I am still a learning witch, so I am still getting to know all of the Sabbats.
I agree with you though - this year has totally flown by! I can't believe how quickly fall and winter are approaching. *ducks from the snowballs others might throw at her for speaking of the cold season this early on* lol!
