I just wanted to know everyones opinions on what makes Anne Rice's vampires so irresistable. How are her books able to make you think you are in their world? how are you able to read one all the way through? So, get discussing!!!
I would have to attribute a lot of it to her style of writing. She has an amazing use of detail, that she does get a bit carried away with at times.
yea, i agree. love the books though. I got them all and read them one after the other. Shouldn't do that at night because 1) i got parnoid 2) i kept dreaming bout lestat. hah! i think it's the way she describes them, and the fact they're all pretty. what's anyone else think?
i have to say the way she shows that they all seem to have a life of there own not only in the story line and as was said in the previous post the detail that she gives to the story and how it some time seem close to the lives of people who watch the movie or read the books it's all about the thw way or mood it puts you in at that moment and how you can place your self in that persons shoes or maybe i worng but that how i see it
*sniffs* i've not read any. i feel useless inside :(
even more so because i have not the cash to go get any
*sighs*
ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! lil' baby. come here, give me a hug......... *crowgirl struggles not to bite jugular*
awwww *huggles* good thing i have this metal neck brace...
*bites your neck*
but it's not a permanent neck brace... it's like those crazy helmets from stargate the movie that fold outwards into the spine... it's like that... i only wear it for hugs you see... if i get bitten unexpectedly i... well... let's not go into that...
*neck brace disappears*
wow, it's magic!!!!!!!!!! wasn't this post ment to be about vamps..... oopsy
Anna Rice's books. I think actually my local waterstones has a vampire section. which i came across while looking at the graphic novels.
I will buy them in the future... i've just no idea how much they are... *opens amazon*
they are a series right? they follow on from one another?
*feels very stupid*
cant pin point what it is about her stories that make them so real, i only started a few weeks ago and must say i found it quite hard work to start with but then i got dragged into her world and havent as yet been able to leave, am in the middle of blood and gold as we speak and cant wait to work my way through the rest ! oh and if you cant afford to but them visit the local library!
I've been reading Anne Rice for about 13 years now. The beauty of her vampires and their world is unexplainable. She is a master storyteller. Her characters become real, you start to feel for them and what they are feeling. I recommend that you start with the first chronicle-Interview with the Vampire, you'll get sucked in. (pun intended!)
For me, she sucks me into her world. Her descriptions are so vivid, you can almost feel you are there. I know those people, the characters. Or at least it seems I do. It is also because her characters mostly continue from book to book, so you have time to get to know them. And besides-they are all so damn sexy!
Gorey - send me a PM with your address and i'll send you a copy of "Interview with the Vampire" free. i have about 4 or 5 copies laying around and i wouldn't mind at all sharing. and don't worry - i'm not a stalker or a freEk (not the bad kind anyways :) i buy and sell on ebay alla time, so sending you a freebie isn't hard at all, as i do alot of media mail mailings all over the world many times per week. let me know. :)
...as far as what makes her characters so...yummy! i think it is because she writes about real things that affect real people (mostly from personal life experiences of her own life). when applied to her characters, thi brings oout the humanity in them. this is what endears them to us. hell, i feel like they are all a part of my family almost! :) like reading stpries about people you know and want to know! very cool. 8)
Her books are some of the most boreing vampire books out there.THe only one worth anything is "THe Vampire Lastat"!
Damn you Radu! what about "Blackwood Farm" that's not boring...oh well, I'm in it!
=)
I think it's how she brings her charcters to life and makes them so leveled with so much background and great looks.
I havent really finished any of her Vampier books.. although i did enjoy the Mayfair Trilogy :)
Hmm I do not know, I cannot put my tongue upon what it is, that just draws you in, it could be her details, it could be the story line, it could be the characters I do not know, I have only read 2 of them though, but I could not put them down, She just has a peculiar way with words
Oh, i love anne rice's book! I have 2 paperback books of hers, and one audio book "Exit to Eden". they're really good books.
Having a definite idea of what a vampire was and sticking to it I beleive she knew vampiric people and saw that they were not as they were portrayed as savages.
I think Memnoch the Devil was my favorite. There was just something about it that reminded me of the Infurno,
