When you’re practicing your belief, magic and other, does it affect the things around you? Like animals in the room where you’re practicing, kids? Should you do it in a quiet place and alone with out things to disturb you?
For me, it does not affect those around me. I can use magick anywhere. I have a five year old son and he is not affected. I prefere to have a quiet space and be alone but that is not always possible in my home.

If you're new at it and trying to pull something off then do it alone before you hurt somebody.
alone so my concentration is not broken. It is my own personal time and space.
When I started doing ritual magic I had the problem of containing the magic, so the animals I have would react to it in some random means, slowly im getting better with containing what im doing so that my rituals will become more powerful instead of a tangled mess.
well of course, generally if i am doing any magic workings and it is not done outside, i have a special place set up in my house, i have my one particular cat
Silver, who will come, and sit just outside the chalk /or salt line and the minute she smells me burning sage shes at my side
if anything like that is done, then it usually does affect kids, and animals around me. they usually seem kinda tense and freaked out a little. its probably best to do it in a quiet place so you're not disturbed.
I make sure I have no distractions. I will turn the phones off & the TV off & lock my cat into another room since he is too young yet.
During my practicing; I have observed dogs that would lie down at the edge of the circle (without breaking it); and have known watches to be rendered dead.
Powerful stuff, this magick.
the magic you do can have an immidiate effect of those close to you. i know of someone who in anger tried to harm another only to have their favorite dog attacked minutes later
That also sounds like karma, but it is possible that the negative energy was not contained and channeled properly.
I have always had someone else in the room with me as it has never afected family or animals around me while doing them.
When I build up the energy of my circle at my altar...my dog will not even enter the circle until it is closed. I use magick when I am alone...turn off the phone and then I have my space and concentration without distractions. So no not when I perform magic.
yes the rituals that you preform do affect the things around you and animals too sometimes animals will sit with you as you work , my cats are like my familiars they always know when we are doing to do something and love to watch. as for children I don't think children are old enough to understand what you might be doing and some people like to work in the nude so children should not be around . I find that a quiet ,out of the way place is best no one bothers you ,no phone,T.V. friends or family no last minute questions or mommy why are you doing or saying that? to answer to.
it does affect things around me to a certian extent. soemtimes the temperature changes, things start to move around. and with people they get really agitated and nervous almost like they know something is happening that is supernatural and out of their control.
Yes magic can affect the environment around you and you do have to be careful depending on what you are doing. If you follow the belief to harm none than it isn't as dangerous to the things in your environment. I do think you need to peaceful quiet place to center yourself first.
Would it generally depend on what you were doing? Just another question to go along with the post, I would assume that some things would affect others while you could practice others that would not.
I don't really practice magic "formally" but I do like to go to a lake or a pond and just sit quietly and relax to the sounds of nature as it helps me to focus and to clear my mind of anything troubling me so that I see more clearly the answers.
I have not noticed any problems or disturbances from anything around me but I still try to be in a room with minimal distractions, and also I wouldn't recommend practicing any magical spells around children unless its a protection spell for the child.
From the books that I have read on the subject most of them suggest that this should be done in a quiet place with minimal distraction.
Children and animals tend to be more sensetive to these sorts of workings. It doesn't necessarily interfere with your results unless they are a distraction to you though. I generally choose a quiet, private place for my own comfort and confidence.
I'm sure it's best to be in solitude. Animals though can be good to have around...there is a specific word for them...what is it I can't think of it?
The Structure of ritual magic, and the structure of religious praying, how are they the same?
-ritual magic, you offering, you asking the deity, thanking him/her/it for its attention your hopes of reward.
typical christian prayer, reciting some form of scripture(not all do) you asking God, thanking him for his services, hoping you are rewarded.
very much the same, in my opinion.
When I do ritual. My cats will tend to stay in the room I am in. And just watch sometimes hiss or run around.. After it is done they calm down.
I haven't tried it around kids but I used to practice where a couple of cats lived and they were always front and center during any ritual or spell casting. I'm not sure if it was just wanting attention or they felt the draw of the energy being raised.
xXPinkyXx...I believe the word you may be looking for is a familiar. Some will use them when they practice their magic.
I believe that magic is a part of everyday life and living. It is all around you and in all that you do. Everything can be a ritual if you let it, everything can have importance and meaning.
Yes it effects those around you and if they are open to it, then it is better for you as an individual.
I do not believe in ever doing something alone and without full understanding of what you are doing. But then again I was raised in a family coven and encouraged in my path.
You get out of it what you put into it, those around you will either benifit or not as they choose. Being honest with yourself is always the best course of action in all things.
"I believe that magic is a part of everyday life and living. It is all around you and in all that you do. Everything can be a ritual if you let it, everything can have importance and meaning."
-Agreed.
"Yes it effects those around you and if they are open to it, then it is better for you as an individual."
-Hence why group magic should only be done when the group is in 'like' objective.
"I do not believe in ever doing something alone and without full understanding of what you are doing. But then again I was raised in a family coven and encouraged in my path."
-Some rituals can be very personal, however you should know well what you intend to do well before you do it, commonly seen as 1 year and 1 day of learning before your first practice.
"You get out of it what you put into it, those around you will either benifit or not as they choose. Being honest with yourself is always the best course of action in all things."
-Agreed, hince the solo-practice prior metioned.
i belived it does. with magic its life force and we drawn alot from whats around us. depending on the skill the bigger the area.
I see magick as a form of art, a practice, magick, uses enrgy, aka energy work. And everything is made up of energy. So, yes, i think it affects everything.
I don't think it's the magic that affects the things around you, but the things around you that affect the magic. Like full moons, they're recomended for many spells of increase, as new moon is for decrease spells. I believe the things around you affect your magic by the aura or energy they're giving off. Many people listen to certain music when casting spells and have different scents of incense. I believe this all affects the outcome and effectiveness of your spell.
You know, I have to agree there, there are right times for everything
yes it does --- but the main problem is -- I can not keep my complete attention on what I'm doing .
It would only matter depending on what type of ritual s you are using and what entity are being invoke if any and depending on your lineage.. if they're being violated it might turn to a negative effect on your surrounding and family..
I prefur a quiet room, like my living room with my altar, and I also have my sheep dog in the same room as I practice, and he just sits at the window.
I guess it really depends on what exactly you're doing. Some things require solid concentration while others don't.
I depends on what ritual it is, because you might need to be solitary for meditation, with no distractions from people outside.
