''Enochian magic is a system of ceremonial magic based on the evocation and commanding of various spirits. It is based on the 16th-century writings of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley, who claimed that their information was delivered to them directly by various angels. Dee's journals contained the Enochian script, and the table of correspondences that goes with it. It claims to embrace secrets contained within the apocryphal Book of Enoch.

Dee and Kelley claim they received these instructions from angels and wrote them down. This account is taken at face value by most Enochian occultists. Rediscovery

It is not quite clear how much of Enochian magic was put to use by Dee and Kelley. However, rediscovery of Enochian magic by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn has sparked remarkable publicity for it in modern occultism. Enochian as an operative system is difficult to reconstruct based upon the Sloane manuscripts, but contemporary occult organizations have attempted to make it usable. The Golden Dawn was the first, but their knowledge was based upon only one of Dee's diaries and their planetary, elemental, or zodiacal attributions are unfounded.

One facet of the rediscovery is Enochian chess, a four-handed variant of the game played in the Golden Dawn in Mathers' time and revived by Steve Nichols and chess players in the late twentieth century.

Aleister Crowley, who worked with, and wrote about, Enochian magic extensively, has contributed much to its comparatively widespread use today. His first work on the topic was his Liber Chanokh, a walkthrough to decipher some elements of this system, but his attention was particularly focused upon the Calls of the Aethyrs. His visions from these calls formed a document called The Vision and the Voice, also known as Liber 418.

Today

Compared to other theories of magic, Enochian magic is strikingly complex, elegant and difficult to understand. Also, parts of the original manuscripts written by Dee have been lost, mainly due to a fire in his house after his death, thus key parts of the system are missing. This has allowed numerous interpretations to arise, some of which have solidified into schools of thought with individual bodies of interpretative literature.

Enochian Magic forms the backbone of both the Crowley and Golden Dawn systems of Magic. Latest theories include that John Dee knew of the Slavonic, Book of the Secrets of Enoch, as well as the Ethiopic Book of Enoch. Many individual workers or very small groups prefer Enochian magic to other forms as the ceremonial scale required is less than needed for Masonic style ritual work.

Anton LaVey's book The Satanic Bible includes a section of 'Enochian Keys' purported to have been part of the lost manuscripts of Dr. Dee's, though this has not been verified.''

If so, how complex did you find it to try to/accomplish it?

I am not sure where most of that wiki information came from, but I must say that much of it is null and void. The real Enochian magic(k)s, if one would care to define Enochian...As being the tools of the Angels. Much of the Enochian concepts were brought out of context by would be individuals that interpreted them the wrong ways.

Enochian magic(k)s are quite simply another side of Universal Alchemy, the language of the soul. I do have in my library a book entitled: Enochian Magic, by one Gerald J Schueler. It is identified as "The Angelic Language."

Though the book is a practical manual, it has many wonderful concepts regarding the Archangels, the relationship between the Watchtowers and the "Tree of Life". Notice, I said "Tree of Life". All users of esoteric works can relate to the "Tree of Life". As it is an Enochian coorespondance with the Quabalist.

Needless to say, much of the Enochian ways are twisted and dare I say perverted by individuals that grasp the wrong concepts for them and arrange them in such a way that it shows somewhat of a bad light on things spiritually.

Just remember that everything is connected by common cause. What that common cause is, is up to the individual themselves to understand. Once the understanding has been invited, then onto "brighter" sides of truth.

There aren't very many good sources I could find on Enoch; if you wouldn't mind could you give us an accurate description?

Which discription would the audiance prefer? A reading of the Book of Enoch itself?

Or just an outlining about how the Angelic Language became known to Enoch, for distrubition about Universal and Higher Self Magic(k)s?

I would be happy to explain, but it is a bit like discussing Alchemy, since both are inter-connected.

The latter would be preferable; I think it would help explain things more to people and thus be more beneficial. ;)

This is the best link I could come up with on such short notice. Though the book I have at my disposal is alot better in the long run. As it describes the meanings between the two worlds. Higher Self Alchemy, and Enochian Alchemy.

Bare in mind that even though the word...Satan is used, does not mean the channeling is directed at Satan. As the ancient entities call themselves differant names, such as Abaddon, Adonai, Gabriel...Whathaveyou, does not mean the rituals are of dark contrast toward the soul.

Oh that I realized; what I meant was that it was indeed more informational than the wiki [which is subjective to the editing of the populous as a whole [therefore the information can't be totally reliable]. Additionally with the 'glossary' and pronunciation parts for the Enoch language are very helpful.

Though there is wayyyy more to the Enochian way, this should do for a started study.

The philosophy is rather complicated though. The individual could gain the perspective that the Enochian way is aligned with the Cthulu mythos, the Akashic records, as well as other ethereal concepts.

The theory itself pertains to the communications with the shall we say...Celestial individuals. Which is where the concept of Alchemy comes into play...Dealing with the Higher Self as being identified as the Source of the Soul. Or Seat of the Soul. The higher beings regard all creation within the Universe connected by strands. The Enochian way is one of those strands. As well as Alchemy, The Akashic records, etc.

Dee, Doctor John: (b. 1527, d. 1608) Alchemist, astrologer, seer and advisor to Queen Elisabeth I of England who, along with his somewhat unscrupulous associate Edward Kelly, supposedly devised a method of deciphering an angelic language, known as the "Enochian Calls."

I have read Enochian Calls I am understanding it but like all things it is how you as a person percieve it.

I remember I watched an Occult documentry about this. Edward Kelly scrined into glass balls, and channeled through to connect and communicate with the Angels, and said they spoke a language called Enochian. Edward Kelly interpreted the language to John Dee. John Dee made notes of messages from what Edward was saying. Edward Kelly become John Dee's assistant, and they also work on the Philosopher's stone, by the practice of Alchemy.

It came through a channeling of sorts via Edward Kelley. Dee was the transcriber. It supposedly came from angelics. It is known to be a very incomplete system and my only interest in it has always been the language/alphabet. People have their own conceptions and ways of trying to use it.

It's Dee that is truly interesting:

Crowley had his own way of using it different from the Golden Dawn. It seemed to affect people differently. I have stayed away from the calls because when I read them I get visions and hear music. I am not scared of it but it sort of overwhelms me. It sounds loony I know but I have had family members around when it happened. My main interest is the language as I said. To me magick is magick...the methods are different is all. I haven't looked at the materials now for over five years so I really don't remember much at this time.

As for Wikipedia, they are strict on sources whether others like to say it has inaccuracies. That would depend on the sources and views sited from and if the writer doesn't provide a source it has, "citation needed" showing the source is not verified. You have the option to go to direct sources at the bottom. It is as good in most instances as an encyclopedia. This topic is very controversial at best and as far as I have ever read no one has a good understanding of Enochian magick and some believe it to be nothing more than a hoax. I am not one of those people though.
