Ok all, I have had this longing urge to sit down with someone and ask lots of questions with an Ouija board, but many people tell me that they are evil and to never try one, or even buy one....well my question is WHY??? You say they are evil, and you say they are bad, but everyone I ask seems to get lost along the way or just completely stops talking to me about it, super annoying, so this thread is intended for anyone to post what they know about them so I can decide whether or not I want to try this thing out....

a Ouija board in nature is not evil, the things that it allows in to our world can be evil, but if you do use one there is some ways to protect your self against there evil deeds, first i know this is going to sound a bit odd coming from me even more so when a lot of my friends who know me, when you first start the first thing you do is to make sure of three things, first off none of the people who are there with you and partaking in this ARE NOT IN ANYWAY WASTED OFF ANY DRUG OR BOOZE, if they are that means there mind is open and bad things can happen to either you or some one else in the group, the second thing is NEVER EVER use the Ouija board by your self because the spirits and what not if the urge strikes them can pull you in to there world, and the last thing that every one in your group has an open mind to the idea of the Ouija's purpose, because if one of them does not they may anger the spirits on the other side, and the most important thing to remember to say is and that means even if you do not believe in Christ and what not, when you first start say this phrase "IN THE NAME OF CHRIST I ASK YOU" that will act as a double protection out side of what you would normally use for protection when working with such entities and what not.

I wont tell you not to use them, cause I know that that just makes the urge to do so stronger. What I will say is that if you are going to use one, do your due research.
They have something about them that makes them INCREDIBLY addictive. Some of my former students used one (while using some rather strong protection spells) and still managed to get addicted, and worse yet let something loose that took us nearly 7 years to clean up and we are STILL dealing with the after math of this issue.
In my opinion the problem come from what this particular type of oracle does. When using a Ouiji board or Spirit Board you are basically asking the spirit(s) to manifest in the form of aided physical motion. This does two things, first, it calls out to stronger spirits who can use the board without harming themselves and second, it allows these spirits to draw or feed off of your own energy. This is where it gets dangerous. Once and spirit entity feeds off your energy enough it can use the board as a type of portal if you will and move itself into out realm where it can and many times will wreak havoc on the person or place that it was released. It will (as it already has formed a bond of sorts) continue to feed off of its now unwilling host and cause mental physical and emotional pain.
Another problem with these oracles is that there is no real way of making sure of who the spirit is. You might want to talk to gramma but in reality it could be a malignant spirit who is posing as gramma or, as my research has lead me, a malignant spirit can use the benign (gramma) spirits energy to feed itself enough to push itself out of the other realm.
All in all they are just a big mess and your better off with some type of ritual conjuring and using EVP to get something more solid, or spending the time to practice and build skills as a clairvoyant or medium. Its easier to spend the time this way than it is to clean up a massive metaphysical disaster.

Hope that was the info you where after

In Beloved Darkness

james

The auto-motor effect is EVIL!!!!!!!

Seriously, there's nothing bad about the board, and if you use it as a parlor game, like it was originally intended, nothing bad can or will happen. Go for it.

there not evil

it just depends if you know what you are doing and you are not screwing around when you use it plus many people are more impressionable so they think something is happening when it is not.

The interesting thing is that even among those who advise great caution or simply advise against any contact or use of Ouija Boards, there seems to exist not a single verified instance of any harm ever having come from the use of such a device. People can provide words of caution, conjecture, indications of personal fear and even anecdotal tales but without at least one verified case of some kind of harm directly linked to the use of such a board, it's little different than warning people about the dangers of black cats; it's just superstition.

In reality, it's a board -- wood, masonite, acrylic or any other relatively solid material with a puck or "planchette", made of equally mundane materials. Nothing about it is mysterious, evidenced to hold any special power or really any different than your kitchen cutting board.

I've offered many here the challenge of doing a double-blind study to see if there can be found any support for the superstitious claims people make and I've seen not a one who seems willing to actually put their beliefs to the test. Simply find a person who is willing to hide an object in an adjacent room, then have two or more people ask an Ouija board where the object is hidden. Have a third party who witnesses where the object is hidden but isn't allowed in the room with the Ouija board until after a response has been given and recorded. You'll find, of course, that the board doesn't provide any credible useful information about where the object is hidden. And if the supposed "spirits" don't know even that little bit of information about what goes on in our world, then not only do the claims of the powers of the Ouija board fall flat, but the claims about spirits themselves are shown to be equally lacking.

To elaborate more on my previous post, Ouija Boards work because of the auto-motor effect. Much like pendulums and dowsing, your body acts by reflex, caused by a subconscious response to a preconceived conclusion and surpasses the conscious mind, making it seem like some external force is guiding the planchette. They never reveal accurate information that wasn't already known by one or more of the users.

Ouji Boards are not bad or good. Every time that someone is trying to open the door to another "plane", what ever comes in, can be evil or can be good. A word of wisdom, if you are planning to use an Ouji Boards, just for the fun of the situation, then, you are asking for trouble. Always use caution when working with the other side and know before starting how to protect yourself, just in case.

Re: "A word of wisdom, if you are planning to use an Ouji Boards, just for the fun of the situation, then, you are asking for trouble."

Such claims seem to be as common as the failure to offer them any support. Can you provide anything to substantiate what you have offered under the label of "wisdom", or should we be satisfied simply in that someone has cared to make the claim? I could tell you that drinking blessed water at one minute after midnight might open a portal to an underworld of pure evil, but if I can't offer anything to substantiate the claim, does it hold any value or is it just another unsubstantiated (unevidenced), claim?

all you have to do to make it safe is to cast a circle, a physical one not a menal one, those don't work, anyways the reason they are so dangerous is bc the demons that are trying to excape to this world look for ouij bordes as a way out. they tirck you in to thinking they are someone dead and then they can posses you when you trust them or get to close or sumthing like that....so just use a circle, don't break it, make it big, and u'll be ok

Asking questions is always a good thing, but consider who you are asking them off, what the questions are in the first place and what your motive is for asking them.

The board is nothing more then a parlor game, the only experiences are tied to hysteria, that one person in a group acting out, and using the mythos if the board to excuse their behaviour. The haunted musuem is a good source to look at, or the skeptics dictionary, or even Penn, and Tellers Bullshit.

How us it that in this day, and age with so many video options (including cell phones) that noone has caught such "rampant activity",

Look at the reason the boards served, an ice breaker, nothing more, so when socially maladapt people are in a group, and the attention is not on them m, or they risk being exposed as shallow.. then they act out, usually trying to impress fear upon others, then there is the religious influenced person who wants to turn a sitting into a prayer group.

It is a dead horse.

Please make sure you give your reasons why you think what you think. No one sentence statement about how Ouija boards are good, bad, evil, or salty. Thank you :)

Might I also suggest for anyone who has curiosities about Ouija boards, that they do a forum search and utilize the many, many discussions we have had about them. Since the most recent one was a few months back, I am keeping this thread open- but don't forget how handy that forum search button is :)

I had 16 (or so) years of experience in Catholicism, and in my experience, Ouija Boards can only allow you to communicate with evil spirits and demons, and that you're just about opening yourself right up for possession, no matter what you do. This was taught to me by someone who had 30+ years in Catholic exorcisms, many of which supposedly involved Ouija Boards. Of course, it's all nonsense.

It doesn't matter how much "experience" one has in ANY discipline, and even the most accomplished physicists won't be taken seriously unless they can provide evidence for what they claim. You may not have explicitly claimed to "know" anything, but you did speak awfully matter-of-factly about something you admittedly don't know for sure.

"i acctuly do know for sure and if i have to do all that work to look up a stupid name and an artical just to shut you people up i will but i don't see the need."

If evidence is asked of you because you make a claim that has never been substantiated by evidence, EVER, then it's generally expected that in order to be taken seriously, you would present said evidence.

"in reality i know what i'm talking about but in life if you calim to know something and it gose wrong then everyone balmes you so i calim nothing!"

Either you know or you don't. If what you claim turns out to be unsubstantiated, then it so happens that you didn't know. If you can present evidence to support what you've claimed so far, then by all means, do so. After all, it would lend a lot more credit to your "I know what I'm talking about" statements.

"so plz don't fight with me i know what i'm doing... "

Who's fighting? I'm asking for evidence as part of an intellectual debate. By all means, if you don't want any part in it, you're free not to respond, but if you want your position to be taken seriously, you'd better be able to back up what you say, especially if it disagrees with what we actually know and observe about the world.

"yes what i say is matter of fact and it is proven look it up your self. you're a big boy"

No, you see, the burden of proof is not on me. You made an existential proclamation, and are now required to present evidence. The defense attorney in a court proceeding is not required to gather evidence for the plaintiff, nor am I required to hunt down evidence to back up YOUR claims, especially when the actual evidence (aka all the works of modern science) disagrees with you.

"then don't bug me with stupid questions like this i've seen them already"

Avoiding the subject doesn't rationalize your position. It only serves to make your arguments look feeble. Now, if you're going to participate in an intellectual debate/discussion, please have the decency to be civil.

The problem with "evidence" is that on these websites that claim either way whether it is good or bad, there is no scientific measurement offered because feelings and impression are not quantifiable. Nor is there a direct correlation that using the board caused X. If you have any empirical evidence suggesting one way or the other, I'd love to read it!

I understand that this is a discussion and I'm quite willing to leave it at that. I don't see any need for it to become over-shadowed with negativity or hurt feelings. But if we're at all interested in truth, then evidence is of prime importance.

Re: "http://www.joketribe.com/95/Oct/Ouija.Board.Protection.php

Do you think so? I read the page you linked to and the first thing I noted was that it's a joke page. It's obviously not intended to be taken seriously. Did you notice at the bottom where it says, "Click here for the next tame joke"?

That's of prime importance and shouldn't be ignored. If I go to a site which presents children's fairy-tales and it says, "Click here for the next fairy-tale", I'm not inclined to place much credibility in any story it might offer.

Re: "http://en.allexperts.com/q/Pagan-Wiccan-Religion-3207/ouija-board-4.htm

here's another"

Once again, a lot of claims but nothing offered to substantiate any of them. Snake oil salesmen used to be quite well known for putting forth all kinds of claims for whatever form of "medication" they were selling. The standard should be verified evidence rather than simply attempting to find other sources of unsupported claims. Note that any of these sites could link to the claims you've made here in an attempt to appear supported and yet you've offered nothing more to support your assertions than they have offered to support theirs. You can't support any structure or concept against another unsupported structure or concept. At some point, you need actual support or you remain unsupported.

Re: "http://www.dragonoak.com/Ouija-Board-Instructions.html"

Actually, that's an advertisement for someone selling Ouija boards. That alone casts suspicion on the claims it makes. But even more important is the lack of support offered to substantiate those claims.

I can find sites which claim that the Bible is the one true message from the one and only true supreme being. I can find sites making the same claim for the Qur'an. Obviously, both cannot be true. They're simply making unsubstantiated claims in an attempt to sell their product. It's the same thing we see here in regard to Ouija boards.

So the pattern with discussions regarding Ouija boards remains the same -- a lot of claims but nothing to support them. And it should be noted as no minor factor that the very people who continue to proclaim there is potential danger behind the use of such boards are themselves, devoid of anything to offer to suggest that any such dangers actually exist. So it remains pure superstition, little different than any other belief which is either unsupported by the evidence or actually contrary to the evidence. With all of the people who have used such boards as simple entertainment devices, it's quite reasonable to expect that were there any potential for the kind of dangers suggested, there should be many instances to offer in support of those claimed dangers. It appears there is zero support as that is what has been offered even by those who remain insistent that the potential for danger exists. It means little to insist that an owl seen during the daytime (or any other such superstitious belief), indicates impending death when no one can offer a substantiated case of a death following close behind such a sighting. The same holds true here. If you don't know of any substantiating incidents suggesting some level of truth behind the claims of dangers involving Ouija boards, then any such belief can only be considered unsubstantiated, irrational and contrary to the evidence.

No, that's not enough, because joke sites and those offering more unsubstantiated claims are not evidence.

I knew it was a major mistake posting this thread, you guys are so ridiculous and are not happy unless everything has to be proven, someone private messaged me their response because they KNEW you all would sit there and judge every f$*^ing word. As far as I am concerned, this thread has long gone off the topic, and is OVER.I asked for everyones advise and wisdom, not for proof, because no one should have to prove themself to anyone on this site, you dont own anyone, so just shut up for once. I will not step into these forums again, but thank you to those who have responded, its greatly appreciated.

Ouija boards are neither evil nor good they simply exist as inanimate materials, cardboard and plastic. They are not connected to the spirit world and anyone using one to do so is making any connection themselves not the board game.

It does have one distinction and that is the way it encourages people to lie through their teeth. Anyone that has ever played this with friends will soon find each of you claiming that you didn't move the pointer when nearly every single one of you did push it just a little.

They do have a history of being abused by some who find young or very immpressionable people to befriend and then use the board to convince them to do things they normally wouldn't all at the behest of the "spirit" world speaking to them through the board.

"I knew it was a major mistake posting this thread, you guys are so ridiculous and are not happy unless everything has to be proven"

No, we don't ask for proof. We ask for evidence. If there is no evidence to back up an assertion, then it is absolutely worthless to consider it. If I said not to get a Ouija Board because they're made of delicious candy and they catch fire if used for more than 2 hours, you'd think I was crazy unless I gave you some evidence to demonstrate why I said that.

"I asked for everyones advise and wisdom, not for proof, because no one should have to prove themself to anyone on this site, you dont own anyone, so just shut up for once."

Asking for evidence is not claiming ownership over anyone, nor is it demanding proof. Advice and wisdom are only useful if they have some basis in reality. Things that happen in reality leave evidence. Hence, if something has no evidence to back it up, then it is probably not based in reality. Again, I say that I could give you all sorts of ridiculous advice regarding Ouija Boards, stating the most wild and fantastical things that I could think of, but they'd be equally baseless because they have no evidence to back them up.

Oh, and censorship is not a valid form of argument. Telling others to shut up because they disagree with you is quite the opposite of intellectual.
