I just saw Drag Me to Hell and it has inspired me to open a discussion here. It is a movie that is in my oppinion shockingly scary and creepy & may prove to give some nightmares after seeing it. Also the movie manages to have enough comedy in it to be a dark comedy as well. So I'd say it's a dark comedy horror to sum it up.

However, my reason for opening this thread here is to discuss what the movie is about and to get others thoughts on it. In the movie, the main character Christine Brown is cursed by an old gyspy women with whom is very angry at her lets just say (I don't wanna give too much plot away here). All of these terrible things begin happening to her because of this curse and she goes to see a fortune teller for reference. I don't wish to tell anymore cause I don't wanna destroy others experience of the movie by telling too much. I have to say I am really glad I saw this movie as it is a movie that makes you think and I didn't think this movie would have that effect.

Was wondering if others believe in gypsy's being able to curse someone who they believe to have wronged them and in effect damn thier soul to hell. (Also as a side topic, could thier also be good gypsy's who don't ever put evil curses on people.)
There are different methods/rituals in the movie discussed and attempted to draw out the curse and spirits from her, some dangerous and others very inhumane. Does anyone on here believe if one is cursed that there are séances/rituals that can infact exorcise the evil spirits from the soul of the cursed. Perhaps once the soul is damned, they will remain in that state for eternity, or until the curse destroys them. Maybe, the curse can just be lightened but never fully lifted. If you don't at all believe that someone can be cursed by a scorned gypsy, then explain why you feel this way. Whatever your beliefs are, please share.

Hmm haven't seen the movie yet but let's see.. It's weird that it was a gypsy who did the curse on the soul, has the same storyline in vise versa of Angel story from Angel: the vampire series derived by Buffy the vampire slayer storyline as well, where Angel/ Angelus was a evil vampire that had a fierce bloodlust in the past and tried to kill a gypsy and the woman give him a soul that haunted the vampire and perceive life as a human being, so he was cursed with the soul that he lost when turned into a demon spawn. It seems in this film is the other way around..

Above is the scene in the movie where she is cursed and a portion of the buildup to before the cursing occurs.

Just wanted to post it cause it's a relevant scene, being that my discussion I have opened here on gypsy's, the cursed and damned souls and drawing out the curse, was very much inspired by Drag Me to Hell.

Many old cultures believe in the superstitions of being cursed. My grandparents coming from Italy believed very much in this aspect. so yet the assumtion of the effect would be like many beliefs. if you believe highly in them than you in some way would create the curse more .

Believe in it and it will happen,

Hollywood has alot to say for it, yet Being cursed at some time given enough of the hoopla the person would eventually fall into the relms of beleiving.

cadrewolf made a wonderful point.

I have read stories where someone want to a false fortune teller and she told the client she was cursed, for a sum of money she could reverse it.
I would not be afraid to put money on it she got this idea from a movie or television show.

A book titled" Liscened to steal" may be a good read to understand some of the practices of Gypsy.
