Superstitions such a funny thing with no science backing, finding a penny cant be proven you will have good luck and stepping on a crack will not break your mums back.
Some will say it is all nonsense .. or is it coz a lot of us do it.
Deep down from the surface of excepted norms of scientific proof and cynicisms even social ostracisms for having a deeper layer that does believe in magic.
Nothing wrong with that is you ask a soldier who has a luck charm in mid battle, athletes before a race, teens before an exam and so forth. From salt over the shoulder to horror scopes, crystals, cats, lucky pants, shirts.. you name it I bet it’s out there.
Do tell me what your lucky charm or superstitious thing is and maybe why or how it came about
I don't have any lucky charms really but what I do identify with is speech. I don't like to say something out loud if I am worried about it. I feel something bad will happen. Haha and generally it does. Guess that is wish fulfillment even if rather negative.
I always stir counterclockwise..while cooking
To bring to those who eat the food
good energy.
To remove negtive energy.
This is what happens when one is still
half asleep
I carry a small almond-sized crystal wherever I go as a constant reminder that I am never alone. I don't see it as a charm, simply as a reminder, like tying a ribbon around your finger so you'll remember what it is your supposed to do; everyday life is busy and confusing at times-carrying the crystal to me is no different than setting your alarm to go off at a certain time of day to remind you of an important task. Don't believe in luck, good or bad.
Great stuff coolleyhou I also carry stones or crystals depending on the day and events thus far, every sort you can imagine but never more than two at a time.
Nice Mysticwinds sounds like you’re a kitchen witch widdershins is a name given to that motion, I also never stir with a knife as well.
Well said or not Mollidew lol yes it is said one can utter into existence good and bad, im the same I focus on the positive outcome to a episode in my life rather than the negative. Just like saying oh I think im going to lose my job and before long it’s gone….. I held on to a terrible job lately with such thoughts and not saying the words, then after the trouble passed I thought I hate this job and wish to leave and that Sunday they called and said don’t come in work has run out.. such a blessing indeed.
So does anyone else do any thing or ware anything? I have a sales friend who wares thick wool socks even in the summer, he saves his thick wool socks to help him when sales drop low for a while as a last ditch effort and wont abuse it coz of his religious views. So when I see him and he has the socks on I don’t say “ ah sales are bad this month” I say I feel lucky for you today” he smiles and makes some good sales.
So please do tell do any of you have any or if you just pay attention to what you do all day you might notice things you do are part of life and you forget there superstitious.
I know my life is so magically programmed id be on typing this post all day long lol
Ever wished someone good luck …
I carry a Gremlin talisman. What you may ask, is a gremlin talisman? Well that is a secret. Too many Gremlin talismans around limit the effectivness of said talisman.
Your So mysterious Dabbler
World war 2 people would of loved that talisman for sure lol
Gremlins take great pride when their sabotage cost lives.
I fell that luck is just what you make it whether it be bad or good. I remember one day as a child my father broke a mirror I though for sure he was going to have bad luck for many years but come to find out he went on living his life as normal.
Interesting 4gottenmemorie, this post is not about if it works or not… it’s about what you do and why coz for most it works.
Glad to hear due to a negative believe no one died … have to say when making a witch bottle I break a mirror to put it in as part of the construction if that helps… makes you wonder about who told you negative info on mirrors and why
i carry a double headed "two-face" coin... its always brought me good luck and occasionally i will(excuse the reference) make my own luck
My mum has a four leaf clover, when they moved in to the house it was just made and only thing in the muddy garden was clovers she bent down and there it was…. And 8 years later I came along .. how lucky was that lol
A two sided coin, nice and if it works it works lol
well im still living so it must be doing something right lol
Hi Demonspawn
Walking under a ladder was brought into play by the church, it was seen as an insult to the new law of the trinity (father sun and ghost) the ladder forms a triangle and to walk through a triangle form was trouble and no one wanted the inquisition to question you.
Hi Want2cmyinsides
What worry stone do you have and why is it a worry stone?
Superstitions, where to begin?
My family has several old fashioned ones.
My grandma always says not to let a rocking chair rock by itself, like when you get up from one, because it brings death. So we don't let our rocking chairs rock.
If you tip over a salt shaker and it spills out salt, you have to shake a little over your left shoulder to bring you good luck.
If my dad hands you a pocket knife open, you have to hand it back to him open. If he hands it to you closed, you have to hand it back to him closed. It brings bad luck to the owner if you do the opposite. Or so I have been told.
Don't walk under a ladder, don't step over a broom that is laying on the ground.
See a penny (heads up) pick it up for good luck.
Ever since seeing the Exorcism of Emily Rose I am afraid to be awake at 3 a.m. I will say that my fear has gotten a little better over the years, but I still get nervous if I wake up around that time.
An Egyptian Talisman that has the Akashic calender on the front around my neck, which is worn at all times.
The other, is a lovely 4 leafed shamrock clover that is in my wallet at all times.
I always stir counter-clockwise, I never felt comfortable stirring in the clockwise direction.
I always humble the witching hour.
I always walk around ladders.
If I do not do something that seems important, I know it might bite me in my arse later on in my life. Though I am not sure if that actually counts as being superstitious.
Spitting 3 times when I am startled (whatever the cause).
Not getting ahead of a hearse when on the roads. Always let it ahead. Well, unless I'm using public transport, then I panic.
Not sweeping the home after sunset or on a good day. Unless in an emergency, I sweep inwards so the luck doesn't go "out".
Sleep with my head facing the East. Cos if facing the West, the dead will bring you with them.
LOL Well being that my mom was full blooded indian and my dad 1/2 LOl we have alot of them
I will not allow a cricket to be killed within my home = bad luck
no killing Daddy long legs spider (they kill the other critters) LOL
most came from my mom and the ways of her heritage.
If you buy like a statue of an Elephant the trunk has to be up and face it to the east for good luck ..
we learned that living in Turkey ( the Country)
alot of superstions there lOL
While driving my husband and I hold our breath while going over railroad tracks. While walking somewhere with another person or in a group, you can't split the pole. These are superstitions that I regularly follow. I couldn't, however, tell you why! LOL
I don't have any superstitions but I do have one lucky charm.
My necklace with the Star of David, my moms purple cross that she wore before she died, Star Of David with I love you sign on it and a ring that my grandmother gave me has brought me some good luck (whether in disguise or not) at different points. Some I can't really explain why or how things turned out the way they did.
im aware this is idiotic, but i always put my left shoe on first.
~W~
Nothing is stupid with superstition if it works for you…
i was mighty ill lately and started to clean my chakras by meditating with stones that represents the parts of my chakras .. once I harmonized the stones with my chakras I placed them one at a time in a small 2” cauldron I have, I placed a binding spell on it and one of the three legs is the hole of a special I ching coin. …. Im getting better much faster than expected, got a new job that pays loads, having lots of fun doing it lol
Works for me
It's all in your mind. Try this experiment; change every lucky charm, number, color or whatever you use for luck to the most unlucky charm, number or color you can think of. For example, if red is your lucky color and blue is not, then for one month make blue your lucky color and red your unlucky one. Put the same positive energy that you put into your so called 'lucky' symbol and the 'unlucky' symbol will become 'lucky.' To put it simply; if you think 13 is unlucky then it is. It's all in your mind, nothing to do with luck.
I think thats the big point. If you believe something will happen to you then it will.
Well said countWallaby.
Hi Littleblackkitten
Helps if you read the start post and those that follow….
Your right on some level but the post is not about that
I still do the magpie thing when one sees a magpie in my home town in Devon England we spit three times lol
I personally salute if I see one and carry on my way but if it follows me and looks at me I spit three times.
One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.

• In Britain and Ireland, there are a number of superstitions regarding magpies[5]
• A single magpie is associated with bad luck (see rhymes below)
• One should make sure to greet magpies when they are encountered in order to either allay bad luck or encourage good luck as related to the number of birds and therefore their place in the Magpie poem. Common greetings include "Hello Mr Magpie" "How is your wife/where is your wife?", "Good Morning/Evening Sir" and other marks of respect.
• Upon seeing a lone magpie one should repeat the words "I defy thee" seven times.
• On seeing a lone magpie one should pinch the person they are walking with, if they are alone they are to pinch themselves. The custom in Devon is to spit three times to avert ill luck.
• If a lone Magpie is seen, one should salute it to show you respect it. This formality can be forgone if the Magpie looks directly in your eyes, which shows it respects you.
• In the 19th century book, A Guide to the Scientific Knowledge of Things Familiar, a proverb concerning magpies is recited: "A single magpie in spring, foul weather will bring". The book further explains that this superstition arises from the habits of pairs of magpies to forage together only when the weather is fine.
• An old English folk tale states that when Jesus was crucified on the cross, all of the world's birds wept and sang to comfort him in his agony. The only exception was the magpie, and for this, it is forever cursed.
• In Scotland, a Magpie near the window of the house foretells death.[6]
• In Scottish folklore, in a story possibly related to the above, magpies were long reviled for allegedly carrying a drop of Satan's blood under their tongues
