it was recently said to me from a person on vr that i respect greatly, that he recalled when if a thread wasnt about vampires, it was deleted as not belonging on the site. now he laments that if the thread is of a vampiric nature, it is belittled, berated, and the poster is made to feel like an idiot. basically causing fewer people to post about true vampires.
do any of you feel the same? do you feel that there are a few that will go out of their way to be rude, and insulting to those of us that consider ourselves vampires?

have you ever wanted to post on the forum but thought that it just wasnt worth the negative feedback?

what might be a solution to this problem in your opinion?

just things wandering thru my skull....

Personally I think there is too much nagging regarding whats real and fake, the flaming thereof by the "oppressed."

Any self respecting vampire obviously knows when it comes time to commend and when to stand up for oneself and not to nag regarding other members posts or threads.

To me, this thread is a bit of a moot point since it seems to instigate a "why do you all make fun of us" connotation.

In my opinion if a person doesn't like the negative feedback they receive they should just ignore it. No person on the planet it required to have to explain themselves to anyone. If you have something to say you should have freedom to say it so long as it complies with the VR rules. Unfortunately yes there are people that will go out of their way to be rude, but this happens no matter the topic of thread. One should just simply go about their business and ignore those that they feel attacked by and note that their opinion was heard and voiced. The bickering only begins when a person who has been "attacked" adds fuel to the fire by giving a rebuttal which makes the "attacker" then keep going because they've reached a sore spot and can now rub it a bit more.

This thread has potential to turn to an argument, but I will leave it open with the note that I will be keeping a close eye on it.

well, i think that if you want to tell people who you are ,posting it for everyone to read, this leaves you open for all kind of responses.
there are a lot of non believers and because this site lets anyone who wants to join, do so, there is no way to NOT have negative feedback. this is quite unfortunate.

good luck friend with this post friend.

Seeing as this is a vampire site,I feel people who go out of their way to insult people for posting about vampires should be suspended or deleted entirely.Nothing irks me more than people who can't find anything better to do than create animosity for no apparent reason. But every post shouldn't have to be about vampires, either.

My point exactly, ~Cursed~.

This world has many individuals who represent a part of themselves that has very "eclectic" connotataions. From vampire, fae, wiccan, satanist, etc.

I do not see other genre of those eclectic connotations nagging that they are "being picked on" by those who either do not understand them, or do not believe them because of certain outright improbabilities involved.

This does not mean that you are not who you think you are by any means, but when you look at the scenerio through the eyes of others around you, it does look a bit like you are a loon or something. Thus is why many seem to think they are being made fun of.

As well, those who think they are have been always asked to shed a light as to why they think they do. When no information comes to light from their end regarding why they think they are, they are in turn shunned by the individual or group that asked the relevant question.

But, who cares about why they might not think you are. You are who you are for one reason or another. Quit worrying about what OTHERS think. Just be yourself. No one can stop you from thinking for yourself.

Too much nagging regarding this area, may have some think that the questioner has some sort of self confidence issues.

I am not saying, I am just saying.

i agree that all are here to post, and to have their thoughts examined and opinions pro and con will be posted.
i suppose what i find offensive are those that remind me of an atheist going to a church convention to tell everyone what idiots they are....

or the non smoker walking into a tobacco store to tell everyone that they are idiots for smoking.

ok...not exact analogies but they work well enough for me lol

Re: ~Lordwolf~

I think the specific differance between your analogies given, and the vampire.. is that the vampire really does not care one way or the other regarding societies opinions concerning them. The only thing the vampire actually cares about is that unbreakable knowledge that "society" is just food.

"Who cares what you say, I am going to bleed you dry after you say it anyway."

OK heres gose man I know whats going to happen, but I will say whats on my mind anyways..

yeah I remember when the site was like that many of us do. The Good ole days..
Yeah I know that the site is open to anyone but as was said I feel if you do not believe in Vampyres/Vampires that is your right but to down some one who says they are in my point of view is flaming, and if you don't believe than this is not a site for that person. I mean it say a site for real vampires, but that is always over looked.
There are many many views on Vamps no one person knows it all and anyone who says they do is full of shit.

to end what I feel... well I wish the site was the way it once was.

I don't remember that ever happening in the forums, I'm not saying it didn't, just that I don't remember. If in fact threads were deleted for not pertaining to Vampires then it must've happened before my time. Oh, and just to point something out, the description of the general discussion section reads:
"Things pertaining to the Dark Network. Vampire topics, Scifi topics, Occult topics, etc.

The general discussion section of the site can contain threads pertaining to any number of topics not just those regarding Vampires or the lifestyle.
I don't think that people that actually believe in Vampires are treated any more rudely than anyone else on the site that happens to be sharing his or her own opinion in the forum. It's sad, but it does happen. People are going to attack other people for thinking a certain way. It happens.
Threads can be closed for any number of reasons. It's either because the topic has been discussed to death, it's a duplicate thread, or there are no questions asked. That or it violates the forum guidelines in some form or another.
We have to keep in mind that more goes into a thread than simply posting information. For a discussion to take place you have to supply the general population of Vampire Rave with questions to answer...something to start off with.

Forgive me if Ioffend anyone, misspell words, or anything else. Please just try to understand the message. You see I am absolutely exhausted right now, and am not feeling that great
But if I don't post at least SOMETHING it is going to get to me all day tomorrow

Sorry 'bout dragging thaat out, now...

Ever since i started the site over a year ago, i couldnt understand how a database site that focused on the beliefs of vampyres could have so many haters on the site
Forgive me, but it seems like this has turned into a dating/ socializing site.
It is called vampire rave for a reason.

You say to "Get over it"
Well, I wish thatr was always possible. But after a while, you just get sick of it.
Personally, I am a VERY outspoken person. I speak/write what is on my mind, no matter what.

I have seen countless people leave the site from just getting sick of the drama.

If you do not believe, please, at least be respectful.
This week, in my highschool, it is brotherhood sisterhood week, or C.A.R.E. week.
C.A.R.E. stands for Civility, Awareness, respect, and embrace. Just for a second, think about what each of those words mean. Don't know?
Message me, and I will be more than happy to tell you.
Tomorrow, I am going to the elementary school to meet my "buddy" for this year.
The district assigns a buddy to every highschool student, and we go to meet them for a day. These kids are probably the same age as your kids, if you have any.
Do you think your kids would want to see you bashing others' beliefs like this?

We all went to school. We all know manners.
Show them.
You could do alot, just by expressing feelings in a different way.
Don't bottle up, but explain- instead of getting mad.

Sorry for all that, but I felt like it needed to be said.
Please do not close this thread... it is important.

SS...what a ...delicious way you put that....and you are right at least regarding general life.

as others have mentioned (thank you LordOfNoctemAeternus and vampchica) it really does seem that some people are only members of the site so that they might have maximum bashing opportunities.

my personal concern is more about manners and or lack of them. my feelings aren't easily hurt. im not all people.i have spoken to a number of others on the site that have stated that they just dont enjoy the site very much anymore.
it seems like the topics on the forum run like this:
what makes you a goth? (the answer is your not...no one is.....WTF? lol)
what makes you a vampire? (answer- not a damn thing, there arent any, and if you think there are, you have serious issues).
thats just two, but if you look thru the forum on a regular basis, you know what im saying.

i dont mind having a good discussion on what you might think is correct and how it might differ from what i might think is correct...but some things really are just beliefs. and beliefs cant always be proven...they are often things that are felt.
is that the most rational way of experiencing the universe? nope.
but it is for some of us far more satisfying...and believe it or not...far more real than things that are only supported by cold hard fact.
a number of times in history cold hard facts have turned out to be cold hard opinions....
have a nice ...or at least a non plague ridden
day

Personally I've grown a pretty think skin over the years, and I don't really give a shit about what people think about me. I am what I am and that is all there is to it. I've tried to be normal and fit in but it never works!
maybe that's not quite strictly true if I'm honest I do care about what my friends think of me oh and my cats lol.

This is a very complex topic and everyone's personality is different whether they believe in the vampire culture or not. The views on whether to say something or keep it secret is even heatedly debated.

It is a shame that more aren't respectful of personal beliefs. I mean vamps are not card carrying individuals. Some seem to bait arguments by what they post. I am afraid a platform has been created, sort of a "skeptics corner". This is why I rarely come back after I have stated my opinion.

I really wish that new people would read the archives before posting here so that the more touchy topics aren't brought up again and again. For some their state of being is a religious view. It is not the majority but no matter how you cut it there is some spirituality to it. It is how we relate to each other in very unique ways without having to spell it out. Except for me...haha. I can be quite dense at times if things are going on in my life. I get annoyed and have seen many others get annoyed but you have a wide rage of ages, backgrounds and belief systems. It would help I think if certain people wouldn't predictably stir the fires all the time. Other than that, everyone's opinions should be stated respectfully and accepted whether one agrees or not on this particular topic. There are radicals or bad apples in any cultural group...goes with the territory, as well as very divergent views by some who have similar beliefs in who and what they are.

I honestly believe that manners are not on the top of the list in priorities in this day and age. It carries over into here but the owner cannot be held responsible for what everyone believes nor can he sensor everything. It is up to the members to act appropriately. Those in charge of this area for the most part watch carefully. Some people have personalities that are more volatile than others and one cannot casually say that everyone can carry the flag of "I don't care what anyone says or thinks" as easily. Some are thick skinned and others aren't. All I have to say about that!

I think the point of this thread, is that when in public the person may not speak their mind so bluntly telling someone they were full of sh*t when they are.

Online, anything goes. No one can see the person behind the computers screen so they think it gives them the right to belittle and or berate anyone who gets in their path. It is their excuse for the open door "attitude" policy of ranting and or venting on what bugs them the most, taking it out on the first people in their immediate path. In this case, in the forums or chat rooms.

Overall at the end of the day, if everyone could just remember what Bambis mum said.... the forums would be a much nicer place to play. I think that everyone has a right to an opinion and there are right ways and wrong ways to voice it. Belittling someone elses views because they do not hold true to your own is the wrong way. That would be like someone saying I know everything there is to know about all things. NO ONE knows everything about all things. If someone did there would be no disease, countries would not be in debt, and there would never be any issue in the world because the know it all would have already know a way to make everything perfect. We would live in a Utopia. I've had to close absolutely wonderful threads in the past because some people just do not know how to play nice.

My advice is simple. If you feel personally attacked, whether you have thick skin or thin skin, simply ignore that person. If someone is picking on you for something they do it because they know that they are upsetting you which brings them joy. However if you ignore them no matter how many times they do it, it will eventually get boring and they will stop. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but I know me better than you do. No one can change you but yourself, no one can take your thoughts and opinions away from you except yourself, and no one can make you feel 2 inches tall unless you let them.

Well it is called a Forum "a place of discussion and politics" so heated debate is by definition the norm.

However, the code does require members have a degree of respect.
Perhaps that aspect is a little overlooked when members come out of the Coffin to the curious.

And that's all folks. Good beginning.......not so good ending.

*imagesinwords edit*

People that joined a a few months ago also say it was better when they joined- it's always been the same here in the forum, really. Threads that are scoffed at today were scoffed at four years ago. People obviously have different perceptions on reality here, so if you post something about your 'personal' reality- it should not be surprising some people respond in ways that are different from your take on things. That's going to happen anywhere- any online forum, any social sphere.

If you've been complaining for 'years', that's just proof everything is the same. Not everyone has such a hard time composing threads that are worthwhile and last until they close due to length (not by an Admin). If you've consistently had what you deem to be 'problems', maybe you should share your ideas in a society forum where you have a better chance being around like-minds. Because it seems you are looking for a lot of people to be agreeing with you, nothing more.

Threads need a few basic things to survive. They need to be questions that get people discussing, never just post a 'statement' or simply how you feel about something- use your journal for that. Don't come out with your fists virtually swinging and being offensive. Follow the forum rules as stated in the manual and FAQ. It truly is easy, but some people are better at it than others.
