Alright! I just turned level 12, so for my first public forum, I would like to discuss the crazy russian, Rasputin!
Satanist? Vampire? What was his deal? How was he able to seduce thousands of women, become the most trusted council of the Xzar, and fail to be killed after three gun shot wounds and then thrown into an icy river?
He certainly bares some common vampire abilities. What do you think?
I believe, after being shot, it would depend on WHERE he was shot, as far as surviving.
And, as far as the poison goes, Rasputin had prior attempts on his life. Perhaps, fearing future attempts, he used mithridism (not sure of the spelling) to try and reduce the potency of poison given to him with ill intent.
Overall, though, fascinating individual!
As far as him being seductive - I know a lot of women who fall to the charms of charismatic men...and men who do quite well at exploiting that behavior.
Sigh.
no offense... but it isn't too hard to get some people to do what you want if you are simply smarter than they are... but as far as having vampiric qualities... I dunno if I really agree with that... but you know.... the qualities in vampire through fiction change every time a new movie or book is written nowadays...
And when did it ever say he was Satanic????
I agree that some people are easily manipulated (and there are those that take advantage of that - extreme example = Charles Manson). That is probably a big part of what happened with Rasputin - he was someone who liked the hunt, and was good at picking out the weaker members of the herd, so to speak.
And I don't think that it was meant that he was Satanic, I think that the question is, how was he able to survive being shot and do all the things he did?
Which, if a person believed in that sort of thing, Satanism wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility in this aspect. Perhaps Rasputin sold his soul to Satan in exchange for increased strength, endurance, and charisma.
Personally, I think that he was likely just an intelligent charismatic person that got lucky (so to speak) and that is how he was able to survive the shots. After all, a few shots to the abdomen wouldn't necessarily immediately kill a person if it hit the intestine or pelvic region, as opposed to the lungs or heart, which would be more likely fatal.
I think that if Satan actually existed there would be SO many people who would make deals with him
Rasputin had a gift, a gift that nearly every male would die for. I guess that he was just lucky to survive for so long.
It seems Rasputin only had a gift of talking... but you would be surprised how many people have this gift... he talks and people believe.... but that's not as uncommon as many people think... And as for being shot...I say luck as well... there are many people who lived through things that seem impossible.... doesn't mean they have any power... they are just lucky...
as simple as that.
he had charisma...but it was also noted that he smelled really really bad!!!! (this in an age where bathing was not a regular event).
and its spelled TZAR
~W~
from my studies of rasputin he was more then just a mere man they say. some of the studies of his life say that he may or may not have some sort of sixth sense almost. it enabled him to hold power over the zar of russia until the down fall of the russian empire. he also i thought was shot, stabbed, hung, poisoned and i think what finally killed him was he was drawn and quatered but thats only what i remember from what i studied of this man. he was far more then what many think. i mean come on now. he swayed the rule of an entire empire, and from that he was able to pull the kings choices to what he wanted. Rasputin was in my opintion no mere man. what he may be i am not sure. i will look for the links to some of the articles i looked up and studied.
how closely is the story of Anastasia tied to the story of Rasputin and how do they tie in? I have always been fascinated by her story. There seems to be so many variations to the tale.
My faveorite childhood story.....
I believe he was a vampyre undescended, crossed with wicca magic. He just figured out how to use them for the wrong sort of deeds
Well, just for some more information, before he ever entered St. Petersburg and began his relationship with the Czar, he traveled for many years on religious pilgrimages. When he finally reached the capitol, he bragged about his great powers all around the city. The Czar at the time had a son who had some crazy illness, and when he heard of Rasputin's power, invited him to the palace. His power to heal the Czar's son is what endeared him to the royal family in the first place.
The second crazy thing was his prophecies. He not only foresaw Russia's involvement in WWI, but he also foresaw the soviet revolution. In a letter he wrote to the Czar he said, If the peasants of Russia end up killing me, you have nothing to worry about. But if the aristocracy and your government members kill me, than within three months you and your family will die.
Low and behold, he was murdered by members of the upper class, and the Czar and his family were murdered within 5 months.
When he was shot, the very first time was point blank in the head. The second two were through the heart, as he ran through the courtyard trying to escape
....after being shot point blank in the head...
He was then thrown into a river. When his body was found, it was frozen in a position with his eyes open, clawing at the ice above him. He finally died from suffocation.
Oh, and all of this was after he consumed enough cyanide to kill ten men.
As Obi-wan Kenobi said, "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck"
Obi-wan Kenobi is ALSO a fictional character. But it is true that many of these "recorded" events where exaderations from the he say she say that happened back in the day... look at ANY powerful figure in the old days and you will realize how exaderated their lives are. The fact of the matter is people like to make these figures look like gods and they pass stories that do just that.
"The murder of Rasputin has become a legend, some of it invented by the very men who killed him, which is why it has become difficult to discern the actual course of events"
If you really do research on Rasputins life you will find many things people dont honestly know. They are a compliation od tales from others who knew or heard of him.
So I believe most of his life was simply exaderated because he was a huge part of a very contriveral psrt of Russian History. They also made of the whole myth that Anastasia lived. Eventhough her body was burned and hidden in a bonfire site and was found in 2007.
it is true. Most of his life is unknown. Just told from person to person. His life actually changes from one book to another. lol. it's pretty amusing.
Rasputin was a mad man. But he did have gifts.
If you look up his past, you'll find that he had a way of keeping the Czar's son from being sick. When ever he would leave, the Czar's son would become sick. When ever he returned, he would be well. Or so they say.
This is true - but it is believed that this was a gift of knowledge, not any divine or supernatural power.
The Czar's son had haemophilia (a disease that runs rampant in the blood, preventing it's ability to clot when a blood vessel is broken due to a low plasma count). Rasputin's treatments were simple - let the patient rest and don't let the doctors bother him too much (which could give time for the temporary scabs to form as needed for broken vessels, which would help him feel better) and stop taking aspirin for pain (which makes sense, since it is a blood thinner).
Whether or not Rasputin knew this as a cause and effect situation, or just went with his instincts isn't entirely clear, but there is a valid reason why he was able to help this child.
Lots of people have survived gunshots to the abdomen, which is where the shots were believed to have been according to what information we have gathered. He is also believed to have been shot in the head once, but from the research I have done, that is not a fact, and, if he was, we don't have details on the severity of the wound. Scalp wounds tend to bleed a lot more and look worse than they usually are - if Rasputin was simply grazed, and it didn't penetrate the skull, there is still the potential for a lot of blood.
As far as the ice river, it would seem he was thrown in, and carried downstream for a ways before drowning.
Sad thing is, it's difficult to get the events recreated of what actually happened, and what is myth.
once again. if you read about his life from different locations his life story changes slightly... it is common knowledge that his life is greatly exaggerated. And since Tzar's son had the disease until his death, makes me believe that he never "cured" the boy, just led him to believe or led others to believe he was a healer. Mind over matter kinda thing.
But he was very lucky to survive the ice river... if that really happened, because the men that killed him are the ones who told the story. They also thought the Tzars daughters where magical because when they tried to shoot them, their bullets where reflected from the jewels on their corsets... but they where not bright enough to realize that either...
So this tell me that these Russian assassins where not so brig
I argee with god of chaos. from what I researched of this man many of the books and what not differ from each one slightly but the one thing I do tend to believe is that rasputin was a very intelligent man
yes he was. its just for me any ways seems odd that he was to a atuned eye was in very much in power over the russian empire at the time. as every choice the Czar of russia made was suggest to him by Rasputin. and its quiet funny how the Czars wife was wrapped around his finger
