I was doing some research on Enochian Magic, and I came up with some information about a divine game called Enochian chess, which consists of 4 players that represent the colours of the 4 elements yellow, blue, red and black. I was just wandering if this game could be used in divination and the practice of Enochian magic? I found out that it was used by members of the Golden Dawn, I wonder if it was used for their ceremonial rituals and magical practices. I know that John Dee used Enochian magic for ceremonial rituals and for his works in Angelic magic. I wonder if the game was similar to how tarot cards are used. I have been trying to find out if there is an objective to this game, but it seems to be a mystery to it, so it could be used for occult purposes.
I am happy to hear anyone's thoughts and feed back on this post.
I have only found the language and the calls of interest and haven't run across this. I can check it out...sounds interesting. I know that the Golden Dawn and Crowley had different ways of using Enochian magic because it is an incomplete system. I don't read the calls (keys) anymore because I would hear music and poetry in my head if that makes any sense. This is partly why I was interested in this form of magic.
There is a website that shows boards:

Thanks for the post because I hadn't run across this prior...very interesting. They say:
Practice of Enochian Chess helps us ground the limitless light, Ain Soph Aur. And helps us to predict the future!
Hopefully this answers your question somewhat. I have some Enochian on my profile...Angelic language is what did it for me. It sounds like it can be used in a way similarly to tarot as a form of divination or mental exercise to make them more adept at that sort of thing.
Thanks for your information AsphaltTears.
The four corners on the board represents the four quarters of the cardinal directions, which is used in the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. The pieces are Egyptian figures.
I know that Crowley practiced Enochian magick, because he performed a ritual in the desert, because it's in a good secluded area.
The enochian Magic was created by John Dee and Edward Kelley. And yes, has been used by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, but not as you described, as a enochian chess game. The Golden Dawn use the scripture as a guide for ceremonial event. Also, don't forget the Crowley.
Sorry for the book I am posting :)
There weren't any instructions given for spiritual or magickal training for the student in the original Enochian source work. It was basically just a listing of the tools, names and prayers used.
Another factor in the incomprehension of the Enochian system stems from the fact that Dee and Kelley did not write the most easily to understand notes. They were not writing a book, they were taking notes from the skrying sessions in their personal diary. On top of all of the confusion, there are no records of Dee or Kelley ever working the system. Whether Dee and Kelley ever worked Enochian is still up for debate. The angels told them not to work Enochian, and there aren't any diary records of works being done except for one healing talisman that the angels instructed them how to make.
It goes into more here:

As I stated previously, what I read stated Crowley had his own way of using the Enochian materials that wasn't exactly like the Golden Dawn. I have only been interested in the angelic connection. I don't feel magick has to be complicated. I have my own way and I don't feel one has to overtly be involved with what is labeled to be magickal types of workings. I am into keep it simple :)

There is a lot in wikipedia about the game and sources for the information given:
Enochian Chess was created by William Wynn Westcott, one of the three founders of the Golden Dawn, but the rules of the game were probably never completed by him. The game was finished by S. L. MacGregor Mathers, who put its rules into final form. The game was four-handed because each set of pieces corresponded to one of the four classical elements and their several watchtowers, and the game was used for divination as well as competition. The four sets of pieces were variously colored, and identified with Egyptian deities or "god-forms". The main identifications of the pieces were:
Osiris, represented by the king;
Isis, the queen;
Horus, the knight;
Aroueris, the bishop; and
Nephthys, the rook or castle.
The chess board itself was also varicolored, and divided into four sub-boards in which each of one of the four elemental colors predominated. The rules of the game were partially derived from shatranj and other historical forms of chess; the queen is played like a fers, with a two square diagonal leaping move. The four players would form pairs of two, with each player having a partner. MacGregor Mathers, who finalised the game's rules, was known to play with an invisible partner he claimed was as spirit. Joseph Hone, biographer of William Butler Yeats, claimed, "Mathers would shade his eyes with his hands and gaze at the empty chair at the opposite corner of the board before moving his partner's piece."
The game, while complex, was in actual use; Georgie Yeats, wife of poet William Butler Yeats, relates actually playing the game as a part of her occult training in Golden Dawn circles. Her husband took part in some of these games, as did MacGregor Mathers. On the other hand, the full set of the rules is not well presented in the Golden Dawn material handed down; Donald Tyson has observed that the game has "numerous weird little quirks" that "make it impossible to actually play in any satisfactory manner".
So it does appear they used it for divination in some way.
I think it's like normal chess, but a more complex version, used as a tool for divination, I think the pieces would be moved in the same way, going vertical what ever side your facing. I noticed something about the squares, because they seem to have different patterns on each square, as if they have different meanings in the same sense as a tarot card with its own different meaning. Enochian is Angelic magic, so the spirit could be a Arch Angel of each element, I saw a diagram on google. The squares are arranged in a sequence, because the colours on each row changes colour in the same order, red triangle, blue triangle yellow triangle and black triangle.
I cannot help but say it reminds me very much of the Greek Gods..
Anyway,here are a couple of links pretaining to the topic.Good luck in your research in this.great subject!

Even it`s game oriented not chess oriented I think it might be interesting for you.
Thanks. I am mainly interested in the divination side of Enochian chess, I just found out that there are four elemental Enochian chess boards, which is Earth, Air, Fire and Water, and they come from the four Enochian magical tablets.
