The donor who is compatible in terms of energy makes for the best donor, indeed. I hadn't realized how much a difference it can make until I hooked up with the Dark Priest (so termed for personal reasons) last week. Why is this here, you ask? Because I wanted to speculate a little bit on compatible energy signatures and the psychic vampire. For those who are psychic vampires, do you ever consider for even a moment if a partner or, more importantly, if the donor has a compatible energy type to yours?

In answering this question there are many considerations to be made. One must keep in mind that the energy signature of each individual human is as unique as their fingerprint. No two energy signatures (that I've ever been around) are the same. Each has its subtleties and its differences. As such, how does this play into your choice of feeding on any given night at the club?

Most who answer will state that they go clubbing for the ambient energy feed that they may obtain from the crowd in general. This is many times enough for those who do not have a deep need. But if you select one out of a crowd, what is the defining difference between their energy and the energy of others? Or is it more of an appearance thing for you?

Our personal energetic signature also plays a role in being discriminating about donors and partners. For if the energy of a donor is incompatible with our own and requires a lot of cycling and energy refinement before it may be used in our own system adequately, then a lot of energy is being expended in the process. This in turn causes a greater need before satisfaction and perhaps should be accounted for when determining when one needs to feed off their donor. One who is compatible can be fed from less often and less deeply. One who is less compatible might need to be fed from on a weekly or bi-weekly basis by comparison.

I believe that being selective not only feeds our need to a greater degree, it also allows us to be able to feed less often, less deeply and have less impact on those whom we call our donors and partners. Do you discriminate when it comes to choosing a partner and donor?

I naturally am drawn to those who exude a great deal of compatible (sp?) energy.

For example, emotions and the energies attached to them are a lot like food. Like humans are given mouths and digestive tracts, "Psi Vampires", as we are so crudely called, were given the means to replenish our easily depleted energy reserves.

Bad food can make you sick. Food you are allergic to, like incompatible (sp?) energy can cause adverse reactions.

That is really the best I can explain it.

Max, well said, and it makes perfect sense.

How did you come about your ability to discern a good donor from a bad donor? Is this something you've always had naturally? Or did you have a trial and error period before finding the right type?

redzombie: That is precisely my point. Lack of awareness of feeding makes the vampire dangerous to him/herself and all others around them. It is important to know how and when to feed, as well as how to be selective in choosing a donor or a partner for the night.

I also think it's important to let them know what you are doing, as it makes them a little more open and allows for a better feed, IMHO.

*nods* I have discovered that many times, incompatible energy takes more energy to process and absorb than it gives me. In that case, one spends energy to process energy. It's a bit like cutting a larger hole in the bottom of your bucket before drawing water from the well.

good analogy i simply think that i need to feed more while i know im doing it. because it may be like a reflex triggerd by my mind when im running low. so if i feed more it may not happen as often

Exactly. Along with being a vampire comes the obligation (in my mind) to control my feeding habits out of respect for the other living sentient being I am taking from.

Many vampires use the black veil to regulate their relationships with non-vampires. To counter the possibility of making my donor weaker and leaving them in a weakened state, I cycle what I need and return energy to them that I don't need.

To me, just stealing from another is akin to energy rape of sorts. My donor loves this and he ends up feeling more energized afterwards, but sleeps well because his energy remains balanced as well.

Back to the original issue, having a compatible donor allows for greater benefit for the vampire and takes less to get more. Its something to consider.

Am waiting for stabb to chime in somewhere here.

I'm sure you could draw in energy from anywhere. Just as you can eat most foods and survive. But some are better for you than others.

There's not much I can add to all of this because most of the great points have already been made.

So how do you tell if someone is compatible with you? Can one just sense it?

For me it's a sense thing... and the fact that person needs to be in my presence to sense it , of course.

When I find someone compatible I know that they are. It's like a magnet, and I suppose that is the same one that makes attraction work, but there is another underlying tone to it. Their energy and vitality is strongly tied to that attraction. Great question, Morri. :)

It is my belief that while we all have different energy signals... there are not that many that we are incompatable with. Perhaps it is just me, but my only noticable concern is if I am feeding off of positive energy or someone who holds negative energy.

Sometimes, and keep in mind this is my own opinion, I find taking in the energy of another can be destructive. Not in the sense that one takes in negative energy, more that they drain part of someone else.
I don't think that applies to every instance but I myself have "drawn energy" for the wrong reasons. Almost as if to just get "high".
To me true energy feeding is a continuous cycle, you take from your partner and they take from you and you create a circle of constant moving energy.

Also, EVERY other time I bring up this question or concern I get ignored and I figure maybe in this thread I will have a chance to be heard...

Is the term "Psy Vamp" used simply because Vampires have been deemed drainers of others? I'm just wondering because it bothers me that people assume just because they work with energy (which takes more practice than most people actually think) it means they're some sort of Vampire.
...Does no one realize that humans have been working with energy flow and life for centuries?

This seriously does bother me because when people seemingly ignore so much of human history and accomplishments I believe it is a huge loss. Whether or not people want to admit it, we are human. Even if vampires exist, they are human underneath, their bodies, though changed, were human and still carry the human form. To disregard that part of ourselves causes everyone to slip further into the "lake of ignorance".

I know this sounds horrible and I'm sure plenty of people will hate me now, but I'm sick of it always being referred to as vampirism when it's been proven that this has originated as a Human ability.

well the energy ususally kind a attract itself ot one another, that why sometimes we cant help it but we have to talk or apporch a person, also it can repell itself like the times when you dont know aperson this person seems really nice and all, but oyu cant stand it, its like and itsh a rage inside regardless if this perosn has done you worng or not, and most of the time he or she has'nt, the nergy fluctuate and seeks, once it has found a match it goes for it. At least this how it goes when I go out for me.

BlackBaccara I think the term Psy Vampire is possibly a way to describe simply being able to take in the energy of others. At least that's the only thing that really makes sense to me....

Like one person told me, the donor's energy reflects that of their personality...I guess...You can also take it into terms of how you choose your friends, you don't want to mix with people that make you feel bad.

I know from my past experiences, that I don't like the brush of some people's personalities or energy. I'm not a psy vampire, just really sensitive to emotions and energy.

It's easy for me to pick out people I won't get along with, because I can't relate to them. Maybe that's another thing that could be looked into. I have never thought about a club scene though...I wouldn't know what to do personally.

In a larger club setting, it becomes more difficult to pick out individual energies, as all of them tend to swirl together in the air, particularly because clubs tend to have higher energy.

I tend to feed ambiently in night clubs for precisely this reason. One, I'm having too much fun. Two, it's too hard to pick out individual energy signatures until I'm right on top of them.

I find that those who dabble more into the occult or are nore spiritual give off a greater energy signature and therefore, easier to pick out and feed. The energy also tends to be more "formable" to suit our own needs.

I am going to be as honest as i can here and explain as best i am able to.. for me it is hard to explainr or describe...
But yes i can be "picky" and then i do sometimes just look for someone who can satisfy my need at that moment.
I dont know how else to explain it. I guess it would depend on my mood and my thoughts and my visual aspects at the time.
for example: If i am in a very aggitated mood.. i look for that.. i dontknow why but sometimesi do.. i feed off of that energy and it sometimes adds to my mood or it , in a sense, gives me momentum to move on and feel somewhat better.
i hope this is somewhat comprehendable.. lol

And also to be honest, if somebody ticks me off, I find it easier to focus in on them and "calm them down" and puts me in a better mood as well. I definitely get a good feed off this. There are certain individuals that are also there at the right time.

I find that those who share the same passion and ambition as I are most gratifying and compatible.
I tend to sway away from crowded areas and social gathering.
Only because I feel as though I do not belong and am alienated which I believe drains me in ways I cannot explain.
I nice walk in a natural setting always perks me up, it is even better if my beloved comes along.

Morrigon, yes the ability has existed for eons before the psychic vampire ever had a name. So while the talent is not exclusively vampiric, the actual need is.

Now, some will argue about whether this need is actual or imagined, and for that I will have to launch in to my latest reading from Henry Cornelius Agrippa. One of his books on occult philosophy has a section about how the passions of the mind influence the body and exert control over it.

Without dragging the book over, it cites examples of how the passions of the mind, the desires of the soul, can create actual change in the physical body. While some would argue this is nothing more than psycho-somatic others would disagree.

*a loud thump and sigh as the big book comes out*

I really need to reference to make a point: the following summary is of Chapter LXIV (64?) of Book 1 of Henry Cornelius Agrippa's 3 Books of Occult Philosophy entitled, "How the Passions of the Mind Change the Body By Way of Imitation From Some Resemblence; also of the transforming and translating of men, and what force the imaginative power hath not only over the body, but the soul"

The basic premise of this particular section speaks of how the imagination of the mind and how the passions of the mind can in turn influence the physical body.

Some of the samples cited include the miracle of the stigmata, wherein the wounds of the christ appear on the body of person. (Great movie ,btw)

Other samples include girls being physically changed into boys merely by desire, not by the modern conventions of surgery. One example in particular was referenced a girl who lived during the consulship of P. Licinius Crassus and C. Cassius Longinus (171BC) . A girl living with her parents was changed into a boy and by the command of the authorities was spirited away to a desert Island. Reference from Pliny , another occult philospher prior to Agrippa himself.

Other examples would be of those who can perfectly mimic death for minutes at a time, slowing their heartbeat to nothing and their brainwaves mimic those of a dying corpse... then they get up and go on their way.

The point being given with these examples? If the mind and the imagination has great play over the physical body, then it is also possible that the vampire's condition, the psy vamp, has come about through a combination of the passions of the mind and the imagination.

In my case, I know that what I became was wrought as a solution to a traumatic event that so changed my disposition and outlook, vampirism was the cure. And it remains the cure, as the need has not gone away and crops up often enough to give personal credence to the thirst for pranic energy to replenish my own.

Celestine Prophecy has nothing to do with the topic. However it is an interesting read in terms of a New Age fictional book. It does not mention vampirism directly and has no relationship with the topic. Interesting book, though. And it is based off of one of the occult law of Synchronicity. Again, it would be another topic that would be interesting to discuss among those who have read the book, rather than those who have had no experience with it.

In regards to trees, it is true that all things give off life energy. But the energy given off by humans is unique to our species as is the energy give off by all species unique in its nature. It is this energy that is lacking in the psy vamp and we do not take the energy out of malicious intent to usurp the power from others (though this is certainly possible and not unheard of), but we take the energy of others so that we may survive.

Our energetic system (vampires) has become highly inefficient in that it cannot sustain our lives normally and within balance for one of many reasons. This instability is often witnessed in a decline of emotional stability and culminates in physical symptoms if allowed to drop too low.

Unlike many other vampires, I believe that we are still of the natural order, we just have had alterations on our energy body that create this need. And in return for the thirst, we are granted other abilities that are also seen in others who are not vampiric.

This allows us a degree of anonymity, which is a concept rejected by some. But for others, the anonymity allows for a greater degree of control and power over the world around us. Spiritual balance is a delicate thing and is not achieved for vampires without the integration of the life energy of others. Their life energy is integrated with our own and allows us to keep the glass full enough to run our lives at a balanced level.

For this reason (the need), it helps us to find donors with a greater compatibility with our own energy. In the unseen world, like always attracts like. This is the Hermetic principle of correspondance in the realm of magic and is why using correspondances in spells is an effective means of drawing a response from the physical level of existence.

Using this same principle, drawing energy that is akin to one's own requires less processing. In turn, it also means that we require less consumption of energy to replenish the supplies. To illustrate, having an incompatible donor would be likened to eating food that doesn't agree with your stomach. Oftentimes, we expel more calories just trying to deal with the bad food and end up being more hungry as a result. Many times we don't realize just how profoundly difficult it is for our body to break down complex carbohydrates and complex sugars. As a result, we end up gaining weight or eventually fall sick. Either way, the body runs less efficiently when consuming calories that are not meant to be used for energy.

By the same token, the vampire who consumes energy that is incompatible to their own runs the same risks. Not only does it take more effort to assimilate energy that is incompatible, one runs the risk of having to feed more often to slake the thirst and obtain the balance that is required to have a relatively normal existence.

This is not to say that I want a 'normal' existence. As a vampire I know full well what advantages I am afforded and I would not trade these for 'normal' on any day of the week.

Jenova, I have never thought much about the subject of compatible energies..
I think like before I knew what I was and my body did what it needed to do I just let the same thing happen here my natural instinct is to fed I think my body does the rest.

I do know when the draw happens to me and then ask the person if they mind being a donner. I can do the ambient draw here and often do Clubs are far to hectic for that kind of thing for me to much going on for me to consentrate

Mikey, I can understand how crowded club settings can make it more difficult to concentrate enough to be able to even sense energy.

I suppose that some vampires find that environment very conducive to ambient energy feeding. I honestly have not been clubbing in earnest in several years.

I like bar settings with a few close friends, but am not inclined towards clubs that are crowded with strangers.
