From the earliest of days mankinds spiritual growth has been largely guided
by those who lay claim to knowledge and power, gained by a variety of ways.
My question is : In this day and age, do we need that same level of guidance ?
Do any of us need intermediaries ?
Or do those who claim to intercede on our behalf do so with our best interests at heart or in order to gain power and status ?
I would think that anyone starting out of course would need some kind of guidance and a mentor. Someone to learn from.
Even the most experienced of mentors need guidance of some sort sometimes. It doesn't hurt, it can only help.
As it was stated before me, having someone to guide you when you are just starting out is the best thing you can do. I had my mother to help me and guide me and I was glad that she did. I still turn to her when I need help. But most of the time now I try to figure it out by myself.
I am one who feels they must learn all they can, and when needed I do search for help. I prefer to find someone who is much more knowledgeable than myself as well. I believe that most people are the same way. We are taught as children to need a teacher of one kind or another..and most people just follow that throughout their lives.
it is nice to be able to have guidance but not always necesary but can be good although one must search for one who can truly teach them the ways that they seek.
By intermediaries, do mean the priest class as existed throughout history?
at times we do ned intermediaries, as at some point we dont anymore, as to find the ones who are truthfull and who have our best interest I highly doubt we can ever be sure 100%

Yes, I was thinking way back (shamans, priests etc )
I agree with everyone before me at some point we need guidance and at some point an intermediarie might be necessary ehh I can't spell today. Maybe some people don't but their are good people out there who are willing to help. I know I do
I agree. I think that everyone looks for knowlege in one way or the other. And we recieve guidence from it. Being new to some form of guidence should be overseen by a person with more experience in that area. Do they do it for personal gain? Not if they are truely trying to guide someone. They would be doing it souly for the benifit of the other individual, if they are truely good in their intentions. If not, then I'm guessing that their guidence will not be completely to the benifit of the student.
We all start unknown to what the world has for us. Our parents guide us but soon we break, having learnt enough to survive.
Sadly some of us, like me, have not had this guidence becoz we were unwanted. Or parents either ignore us or have abandoned us. We grow by ourselves and learn from mistakes. I would've liked my [arents to have payed some attention to me, but i have been able to cope.
A guide is a nice thought; someone showing u the way through life, how to get out of things, how to work, and how to survive

When does a "guild" stop being a teacher? When do you see them as promoter? No matter what- a person's perspective will shadow the issue.
If I was to read a text, and you read the same, we would have different opinion on the work. It is what makes us human.
Guilds are great- but you should grow beyond. :)
I think a wise guide would know and rejoice on the day the student was ready to walk unaided.
When thinking about mass guidance ie: organised religion........is there a time when they 'let go' ?
i think we do need intermediaries. there are times when you cant go ahead or think ahead and that is when you need guidance.
As I understand the original post, it is asking about an Intermediary. This is a person that stands between you and the Big guy. Are you able to commune directly to G_d or do you need someone like a priest to speak to Him? Such as the Pope, or JC. Back in the days, there was the Priest class. You went to them to have your prayers heard. The question is, "do we still need them?"
Intermediaries are good from divination stand points to add as a focus, as well as to spell casting. However when it comes to using magicks, when one seeks a connection direct with the source, doing all they can to be able to survive such a connection they then do not really need an intermediary. It seems as though looking through a window only does so much till you open the door and go outside.
Intuition is very personal....en masse do we need intermediaries ?.....
Um, yeah... it's called the covenant.
I believe that the world needs this guidance now more than ever.
it is not something that is needed and i do feel that some only do it to get recognition and power.
Such limit the development of the soul. However, patrons such as deific forces whose currents parallel our own do serve to give us a way to balance out, and keep focus on our paths.
In my world my parents were my intermediaries. As I grew older I found I did not need an intermediary as much.
With maturity, I found that sometimes it is nice to have an intermediary for the simple reason that when you have a spiritual problem, you can seek out the help that best suits your problem.
To each his own. I believe that the responses are going to be based on personal experience.
Some do need intermediaries as they may not be able to handle what is going on. Some that do this thogh tend to forget the feelings of them as well and that could be why those of us that do it are very picky on who we do it for.
yes it is great to have someone there to help guide you through life. But I think it's better to do it all on your own. That will make you a much stronger person in the end.
I for one do not feel that we NEED them as I can speak for myself to my God, however it is nice to have someone to confer with if you have the same beliefs and added prayer doesn't hurt either.
