ok while reading a magiznne called dark realms, there was a small artical about gypse magic, and it listed the evil eye, charms, tarro, and that was about it what else did gypses do that was magic such as spell, potions , curses?
and were gypses able to be considred witches?
i also found something that they were great healers for animals
gypsies and witches are two entirley different things/people.i am def using the wrong wording there....
Rommany Gypsies.....some can fortell magyc...tis in their bloodline
withces....well what kind are we speaking of here....
I know a Lot of both gypsies and wytches
either of satanism or wiccan
just as a point
anyone seen the film
"6 sovereigns for sara"
tis about witches in the middle ages
I think it was a survival thing ....at one time gypsies were seen as folk following their own star and were respected for that.
Recent history tells how their fortunes have changed over the years.
From being welcomed to being hated.
Healing was one thing, animals and humans, also charms and potions.
Today when I was in town there was a group of singers/musicians from the baltic states performing, and I thought how sad it was that their way of life has changed.
I am not really sure, I will read more into the subject. But I have heard that they practiced tarot and fortune reading such as palmistry and they used the crystal ball, didn't they contact the dead or something like that as well?
i will copy from my profile ....
"Roma believe in their powers, as exemplified by our use of curses, called amria, and healing rituals. We practice fortune telling only for the benefit of 'gadje' (non-Roma), and as a source of livelihood, but not among ourselves. The fortune teller is always a woman, called a 'drabardi'. The concept of fortune telling contains several independent elements that are misleadingly grouped together. One element is foretelling the future, called drabaripé or drabarimos. Another element relates to healing powers, which we do practice among ourselves. The healing elements of fortune telling are called "advising." Both elements are based on a belief in the supernatural.
Good luck charms, amulets, and talismans are common among Roma. They are carried to prevent misfortune or heal sickness. The female healer who prescribes these traditional cures or preventatives is called a drabarni or drabengi."
Roma, true gypsies, were and are completely different from witches; ours is a race and culture rather than a belief or practice. We originated from Northern India before working our ways across the mediterranean, and spread throughout Europe.
Yes, there was a time when we were gladly accepted into communities, the original crafts being metalwork and peg making - but as Roma have become intergrated with the community at large, many who now receive 'bad press' are Travellers rather than Roma and do not practice fortune telling, palmistry, curses or healings.
One can consider them witches.... they are just another form of such, a different race if you will like hoodun, wiccan, black magik, etc..... but don't forget the crystal ball thing too...
i used to have a crystal ball
many things i saw
i arent making things up about me.far from it and if people take the time to read my profile....i am a very personal vampyress and hold many secrets
I would love to have another crystal ball :)
All gypsie's were and are not scam artists, the only time people usually see gypsie's is in the movies and for some reason they are always shown in a bad light, i really do not understand the reasoning for that, and me personally i think magic is magick their is no such things as diffrent types of magick they all accomplish the same goal i just think magic is practised in diffrent ways...
i feel that gypsy magick is far more than just a craft i believe that it is a culture rich in the arts and that most individuals are mislead by myth and don;t get all the facts they just rely on hearsay.
Gypsy "Magic" is like Voodoo...if you believe it works...then it will...if you don't believe...you have no worries
i believe somethings are mind over matter but for most culture practices the techniques have been proven to work through history with incidents that have ocured these small societies pass down their practices and beliefs from generation to generation along the way passing on their hidden secrets but i do feel it is all a matter of personal opinion as to if they work or not but personally i believe that they cary some kind of power behind them.
Gypsies are not witches they were known as fortune tellers and healers.
I believe that Gypsies are in a category all their own. They have interesting methods of "Magick" and spells, potions, tarot cards, and natural remedies. I enjoy reading books by Gypsies. There are many out there. They also have their own language. I believe they are as powerful as a witch, so maybe they can be classified as witches. I guess it's what a person believes. There is no proof that they are not witches.
well i know that gypsys are big in divination. Such as palm reading, tarot reading, crystol balls, pedulums, the whole set up lmao
Gypsies can be witches or anything else, they are regular people, they just have their own way of doing things...
aahhm... in one post there was written that baltic people are gipsys
I just wanted to say that they are not, I grew up there and I haven't seen any, mmmk?
thats what I also thought that they were fortune tellers and healers...
i'm not sure how true it is but i was once told that spells and curses was a big part of there haterage
didn't gypsies use curses and spit alot? the only thing i know for sure about them is they steal from people in europe.
from my knowledge gypsys also started the tarot cards but instead of a tarot deack they read regular playing cards .
the only thing that i really know about Gypsies was that most people were scared of them or thought that they were thieves and con men and you should stay away from them.
but who really knows?
Gypsie magic to more is .... what of what they are. Unlike everyday witches which is something that grows.
I thought they were more fortune tellers and story tellers then witches.
We are a hated breed...
we curse the one's who do us wrong.
We heal the one's who are sick from not potions but old methords of medicine, Provided free from nature without addatives, they work unless you are Dying of corse.
Charms are given with a good heart passing on the Love & admireation they feel for a person.
What makes us hated is the dirty horrible buggers who leave a trail of destruction in towns & villages they pass through...
A true Gypsie would never rob, hurt or desicrate a town....we are Honest & hard working....
Power is in us all, You only need Believe in yourself.
Open your third eye this can help.
i believe gypsies do have some common practices with witchcraft but personally i would not call them witches...
i feel it's just a way for them in their heritage and culture of beliefs and practices if anything else.
I am from a long line of Roma's My grandmother was the first one of my family to be born here in the USA.We orignate from Romaina and Italy my great great grandfather was a goat herder and lived high up in the carpathainian moutians. He and his family were all born and raised there as well but the gypsie magic was never spoke of in fear that in america they would be labled as witches even though it was a part of their lives.
I to believe that curses were also part of their day to day routine. Them being considered witches would all depend on who you were asking.
Well I personally think they were witch's.
here is link found on them quite interresting.
larp.com/jahavra/magwar.html
Well, not all gypsy's can use magic. Some of them are just nomads.
your right and it was them who took the blame for the rest that harmed
as i have mentioned it is all to deal with the gypsy culture i believe and i do feel that some gypsies use the belief practice that witches use as well.
...
i find it hard to believe that some individuals are gypsies when they are on the internet all the time i think they are losing touch of their own culture and letting the digital web world interfier it always frustrates me when i see such individuals lose touch and can only talk about the gypsy ways but in fact have no actions...i feel that their culture of magick and of belief and practice is one of great history and can only hope that such individuals get back to the roots of where they came from.
The Roma use a different system then witches do. I have had the pleasure of learning some of their technique but I never understood what exactly they called on. It was like Folk magick, clerical magick, and chaos magick blended together to look like witchcraft....very odd....
this site gives u a brief rundown on gypsy magic and a little background history hope it helps

I guess gypsies could be considered witches but I don't know really.
Gypsies were diviners, fortune tellers, they broke spells and made potions, the majority of gypsies helped people out, and just because their were some scam artist around, everyone started labeling all gypsies as scam artists...
Witches and Gypies are 2 way different things. Even in the past they were not considered witches. I think it was because people didnt believe they did magic.. it was more of them stealing from people and things. And spirits supposedly talked to them. It was different things they did back then. When they did do magic not much people would really know about it! Now days you wouldnt really consider anyone a gypsy unless they did some palm reading and/or crystal ball things/etc. I would be considered a gypsy now days because I move alot!!! Things have changed alot throughout the days!!

I read a book about gypsies once.
They used the evil eye as a warning,
and it made the victim really sick.
I did it to my brother
and it worked!!
They had rituals for heaing,
and their own language.
They left signs on the streets for eachother.
Like a certain twig snapped or something like that.
Their whole existance is so fascinating.
People don't know too much about gypsies
because they didn't share their secrets with outsiders.
i don't think so but they did have a special way of doing things
this is great. may google more myself on Gypsie's. but is there any storys any one has about them?
Gypsies are mostly in to Tarot Cards, fortune telling and palm reading. No, Gypsies are not witches.
