For those of you who are like me and can't really plan these things out in life more than a few weeks in advance... I didn't reserve my spot at the meet-up events so I will be heading to New Orleans, but not the events themselves.
I know of a couple other people doing the same.
Anyone else?
Perhaps we can pick our own venue to have a mini-meetup...
This thread is open for suggestions.
All I know is, I'm looking for Imagesinwords right away so she can give me a tour.
Faeriemoon should be hanging with us too right?
Anyone else in the area, if you know of some good spots to see or you want to meet up for a few drinks, let us know.
I'll be there too!! Just look for me hanging with VR's Wilson and our favorite "angry" artist :p
Any suggestions from the locals? Must see tours? Best night spots? Hidden attractions? I'm all about finding adventures beyond the normal tourist attractions. :)
I will be in New Orleans during the dates of the meet-up as well, plus a couple of days afterwords.
I had no idea the meet-up was happening during the time I'm going to be down there, so I was pretty surprised when I was messaged about it.
I'm open to meeting up if there happens to be a mini-meet, but there is no way I could afford the "actual" meet.
I also would like to hear about any non-touristy sites, clubs, etc.. that we could check out.
I am pretty excited about this trip - I have been in love with the idea of NOLA since I was a kid, and can't wait to see it. The only thing I am worried about is the heat - from what I have read, August is supposed to be one of the hottest months down there. :/

Yep, hot and sticky.
Hence the need for cold beverages!

I can't wait to see you guys!
I did not reserve a room (because I live here). I am going to buy my ticket to the Ball before the deadline (the 20th).
I can help you all out with suggestions on what to see while you're here. I'll be compiling a list to share with you all, with directions and specifics- so if we can't all hang together, you'll know where to find it if you want it :)
Woooh! We will be attending the ball as well but knowing where to hang out during the day will be awesome.
I'm going to the meetup but will be hanging around in NO for about a week afterwards, I have a booking in a city hostel. So would be glad to hang around with people and see the sights! Otherwise I'll just do it all on my own, hehe.
Not going to the meet up but will be there the week before. Will be leaving on the 31st of July. Anyone shows up between the 26th and the 31st, look me up. Staying in the same hotel as the meet up. Will be at Erin Rose on Conti right around the corner from the hotel at 10 every morning. NO is my second home and will be moving back soon.

I'll be in on the 1st, taking off the morning of the 4th. I'll be staying in a hotel in the French Quarter... but not the hotel of the meet-up.
Looking forward to it and open to any suggestions for day and/or night activities!
The tours are great. The Dungeon is definitely rocking especially after 9 upstairs. Lafittes is a cool place to chill. Erin Rose will treat you right.

If you want to see Maria Laveau's tomb its in St. Louis #1. If you exit the hotel where the meet up is being held and go left till you hit Conti St then take another left and walk about 3 or 4 blocks you will run into St. Louis #1. Best to go there during the day. Not the safest place but I've never had any problems there. If you want to take a carriage ride around the Quarter the best place to catch it is at Jackson Square which is down by the Market. If you catch a carriage there about half way thru the tour it will pull up in front of Lafittes and the bartender will take your order and you can take it with you.
It pains me to post this..
I have two tickets to the meet up that I am going to be unable to use. I am buying a house, and we are closing on it that weekend.
If anyone is interested in attending, but was unable to purchase their tickets by the deadline, here is your golden opportunity.
This transfer will be handled theu the travel agent that way you can rest assured that your name will appear on the reservation.
If interested message me on here, or email me shannonselleck at gmail dot com

Lets stick to discussing GOING to the meetup, not whinning if you can't go, mmmk?
Where is Stabb when you need him?
Anyway, those are all good ideas. I have a couple things in mind already, but the more ideas the merrier.
Anyone else? Locals got any other tips for us?
What about some jazz clubs? I would love to experience some of the music in NOLA... and well heh, I would love to do the graveyard tour...
I KNOW!!! I'm a geek :P

birra Venerable Sire (132) Posts: 463 Honor: 50 [ Give / Take ] |
Jazz clubs.. check.
Graveyard tours.. check.
What else?
Not going to ask where everyone is staying, but who is going and NOT staying at the hotel of the meetup?
ME!
oh wait... You already know that. If there are people who just live in the area and want to meet up at some place to have dinner that would rule!
|
birra Venerable Sire (132) Posts: 463 Honor: 50 [ Give / Take ] |
Well, that was one of my hopes as well.
We both know people in the area we would LOVE to spend some time with. Buy a round of drinks for. Have dinner. Go clubbing. Vomit together in a back-alle...er.. ok, we can skip that one....
You know what I mean...
I am going to NOLA and NOT staying at the hotel for this VR meetup, although I will be staying in the Quarter.
I have been doing some looking, and I have found a few interesting clubs to check out - blues, jazz, and goth/industrial.
We plan to do one silly tour a day when we are there from graveyards to swamp tours. Plus, we found a drinking/bar tour which looks cool.
I wanted to know is there any gift shop in the area?
Like special gift you can't find anywhere to bring back as a souvenir but not the type as you look and say:: why did I buy this?
I think there is always a little place to carry a gift.
Small things that sort of bring a smile to the lips.
From memory the quarter is full of gift shops - from your every day tourist traps to voodoo stuff. Personally I loved the hand made jewellery but that's just me ;)

birra Venerable Sire (132) Posts: 463 Honor: 50 [ Give / Take ] |
Some of the best stores for souviners and special gifts is on Magizine St towards the zoo. If you dont have a car you can take the St Charles St trolly and go all the way down and walk back over to Magizine.
I actually find this thread interesting...I understand that some of you actually live in the surrounding area and don't need to spend the money on the hotel part, that's cool, but those of you who are traveling to the area for the meet up and who are already paying (what I am sure is alot of money) for a hotel and the ticket to the ball....Why are you not staying with us?????
What would be the point?
Why would you go to the same area and do some of the same things, yet not support Vampire Rave?....The whole point of a VR meet up is just that....To support VAMPIRE RAVE.....And all I am seeing is those who are not supporting Cancer and VR...Which who is by the way, going to be there and is a complete supporter of this event.....
I'm actually a bit sad by all of this and seeing you all not be involved in the Real and Actual get together really kinda sucks.....
I'm sure Cancer, thanks you all......
Scar Edit: leave it to my girl to say what others only dare to think :) Thats MY girl!!!

Well, we all have our reasons.. and the point of this thread isn't to debate peoples loyalty to VR or demand people defend their reasons....
...the point of this thread is - although the "meet-up" is a great idea for some, it might not be exactly what everyone wants to do...
Me, personally, will be going to the ball. But the club-night, well, just isn't my cup of tea.
I prefer to create my own itinerary and do things a little more on my own terms. Besides, out-side of the meet-up events, there is a lot of time to get out into the city and do other things. People might want to get together for those reasons as well.
I'm still a premium member. I still support VR. I'll still go to other events if they interest me and my schedule permits. And I'll be sure to shake Cancer's hand and offer to buy him a drink when I see him.
Meanwhile, there is a little less than 2 weeks until the meet-up. Let's get some other ideas rolling...
...and quit the "I wish I could go" posts. Whine in your journal.
Now is where I chime in, it's about time I know...Sorry Birra!
Anywho, Haunted History Tours is the main local tour company in town, they reside on St. Peter st. in front of Reverand Zombies VooDoo Shop. Everything you need for the tours should be on their webpage...The Dungeon
The River Walk Mall is still very active, with a food court on the third floor. As well as a great view of the river.
The moonwalk is always active, a wonderful place for walking along side the river daily or in the evening. It takes you to the River Walk Mall, the Aquarium of the America's, Harrah's Casino as well as the Natchez Steam Boat. Walk the other way, it will take you to the French Market as well as Cafe Dumonde.
Jazz is on Frenchman Street. we all know what Bourbon St. is about. Decatur St. is the more laid back, Royal is the shopping street, then we have St. Louis Cathedral. Always open to visitors as well as worshippers and confessions.
You may see me about, but unfortunatly not know who I am...Since I am not at liberty to divulge who I am, you may just have to swet it out.
Any further information, and or questions then feel free to inquire. Welcome to my city.

We support VR, CrystalJolynn. you say: Why would you go to the same area and do some of the same things, yet not support Vampire Rave?....The whole point of a VR meet up is just that....To support VAMPIRE RAVE.....And all I am seeing is those who are not supporting Cancer and VR...Which who is by the way, going to be there and is a complete supporter of this event.....
This money is not going to support the site- it's going to a travel agency we are using to arrange the event. It's actually off season in the French Quarter and people can find rooms cheaper to fit different budgets.
The 'Real and Actual get together' is the Ball- something many have paid to attend yet are not even on the 'who's attending' page. We have to raise our hand somewhere so people will just know we'll be there. I live here- I don't need to get a room... but I will not judge someone else on their personal reasons.
CrystalJolynn, some of us are not able to throw down hundreds of dollars for an event that we are not even sure we will be able to attend. Birra and I have very last minute schedules and we don't appreciate sideways insults because of it.
This is not a competition to see who supports VR the most.
There are pricing options for those who will only attend a few of the events so we are very appreciative that our situations are understood and we are still allowed to participate.
We pay for what we will attend, and much like everyone else, we will be going to visit all sorts of VR members but we won't be going on any of the tours.
This thread is for those who want to just roam around and meet up. If you have a problem with that, then we look forward to not meeting up with you ^.^
Images.
All Genre made NO money at all. Not a single penny. All Genre actualy paid money for this event in ITS SUPPORT of VR which you were told.
You are not in possession of all the facts and you were told that.

'What' was I told? You can take to me off forum. A lot is going on here that is not right, and truly inappropriate for me to even share here.
*
Back on topic- I am really looking forward to meeting with all of my friends attending. I am looking forward to our outings and sharing with you what I know about the city in which I live and love.
Morrigon,
Your last paragraph sarcastic comment was totaly not called for. I dont think starting an arguement over any of this was the general idea simply because one person voiced an opinion you disagree with.
As any type of admin on VR, I would expect a more professional type of response, not a last sentence barb.
Z
SoulShroud:
If you had read some of the posts in the actual Meet Up Forum, you would have seen where the travel agency actually put extra monies into this meetup as an addition to what was charged to each indivdual. There is no money to be made here and this event was put together to show our support of this site plus the members here. Everyone has had over a year to plan for this event. This was not just thrown together. You also have to realize all that the cost covers. Your hotel for 2 nights, breakfast and diners for 2 nights, club night, and the ball.
Now you also talk of a place for those to "raise thier hands"...Well, once again if you would have read the actual forum, you would have seen that there is a thread for just that. titled "For those attending the Ball - But not staying at the Hotel"....Those that did pay the full price and thought ahead should get special recognition for that. But that is just my opinion.
I am not tring to start an argument here, I was just stating my opinion from reading the posts in this thread.
Morrigon:
I think your responce was pretty childish to say the least. And if I don't get to spend time with you than it seems that it will be no loss to me as well. I was not tring to give a sideswiped jab in anyway, just stating what this all looks like.
I'm am sorry if you can not handle someone else having an opinion that you may not agree with.....But just as you have stated yours, I have stated mine.
I do hope that this all does turn out to be a very memorable event since it seems that most VR meet ups fail horribly. But that is why this one was set up in the manor that it was. So that everyone had plenty of time to prepair and save for it. I think a year is plenty enough time to save and schedule your life arround for it. I just wish we would have had more participation in the actual and full meet up.
Also if you will re-read my post, you will see that I was not in any way attacking anyone in paticular, and statecd that I can see why those who live in the area would not need to pay for the whole package. I just think that those who are traveling in from other areas are going to be spending alot more money than they realize.
Again, I do hope that everyone has a great time, where ever they are....My posts were not meant to be hurtful. Really.....

This has been a horrible experience for me and I have decided to not to go the ball, my friend will be refunded her money in purchasing my tickets.
I hope to see my friends outside of the events.
I will not be bullied in a thread designated for people who want to attend an event and meet up with other people from VR.
This thread, started by a great friend of mine, was designed to help people find times to get together during the day and for people who know the area to give us advice on where all the cool places are.
We did NOT begin this discussion so we could be critiscized for our personal and financial situations. I do not appreciate myself or any other person who will be attending select events being badgered and given guilt trips because of our decisions. We attend this event as best as we can.
The public forum is not the place to be discussion professionalism of the staff Allgenre. If you have an issue, take it in private.

birra Venerable Sire (132) Posts: 463 Honor: 50 [ Give / Take ] |
Ditto Morri - to me the event is about meeting people. Not hotel rooms, balls, dinners or clubbing. It's not about "supporting" VR in any way except participating and interacting on a more personal level with other VR members.
I'm sorry if Allgenre has put forth money to this event that she will not be able to recover from the sale of tickets/rooms/etc. on this event itself. This is a risk all business people take and I'm sure as a professional business person she will take her lessons learned from this and make the needed changes to the next event she has planned.
This thread was not intended to be a debate over... anything. Simply a thread for people to share other ideas, to enhance the good time they will have in New Orleans, a chance for them to discuss who is going and what to do ASIDE from the events... and as Images stated, a chance for people who are going to learn of other people that are going that they might want to meet up with but didn't realize were going...
...if that makes sense.
And really, I'm sure the events will be fantastic, but wouldn't people enjoying the ENTIRE trip make them all that much more likely to go to the next one... and tell their friends to go... and make the next one even better?
Just throwing that out there...
True enough Birra. Regardless of what events I'm attending, I REALLY want to see what some of the stores down there have.
And a cafe... Any good cafe suggestions?

We also have a place called 'The Trolley Stop' on St Charles that serves the best breakfast in the city- I am sure you can find that title if you google it.

See.. these are great suggestions.
And what I would invite, as was the intention of this thread, to say... who wants to meet up at The Trolley Stop on Saturday morning around 10:30AM? Hang out, have some cwawfee, twawk about cwawfee and mawwls....
...that sort of stuff.

Cartomancer Arch Sire (194) Posts: 1,252 Honor: 40,669 [ Give / Take ] |
Maybe I should re-state the nature of my original post, because it seems at this point, it has been taken completely out of context and twisted in a way. And I was not more clear on my statement.
All I wanted to know was, why if you were flying in and staying at a hotel and then purchasing the tickets to the ball and club night, why you weren't staying with us.
What was the point?
As I stated quite a few times already as well, I understand if you live there...That makes sence, or if your job is that where your on call 24-7. That makes sense. I just didn't understand the point of going through all of that and not wanting to be with the main group.....I thought that there may have been some underlying issues.
I have never ever ever been one on this site to attack or belittle anyone. Ever. In fact just the opposite. I just wanted to know why some didn't want to be apart of the actual Meet Up. Like I said, it was just the way the thread read to me.
I will not post anymore on the subject. It is redundant at this point. And I really and truely do hope everyone goes and has a wonderful and memorable time. Many safe travels to everyone. Take Care.
It seems your posts are only doing that. Some people can not afford the 250.00. Hotels per night can be as little as 60.00 per night, split with someone else that is about 120.00 for the entire weekend and then you can buy your own food wherever you choose.
This thread is for those choosing a more affordable means, that are STILL attending the ball and club night- and want to do something other times with VR people.
From what I've seen NO information about tours has been posted and I want to go on them with my friends. No big deal.
The comment about sarcasim is silly. People are allowed to say "hey you are taking this thread off topic- keep to the topic it is about" which is things we can do outside of the club night and Ball.
WOOOhooo!!! I LOVE breakfast, and can't wait for it folks :D

I couldn't reply to the thread because of a weird code error, so I started another. This is part 2 to Birra's, until that is fixed.
Good thread. I wish I had seen it months ago. =)
I would be interested in knowing where everyone is going to meet up. There is an old bar there, not far from the hotel, that we are going to check out. It is supposed to be the oldest building/bar around. I read it is really neat. I can get the address if you want. It's nice inside I read, but not much light. I think they use a lot of candle light. It's on Bourbon Street.

Lafittes Blacksmith Shop is the oldest active bar in the U.S. Its the last bar on Bourbon before the residental area. That may be the one you are thinking of. Candle light and laid back.

For anyone intrested in voodoo, not to far from the hotel is the Voodoo Spiritual Temple open to the public. When you exit the hotel go left till you hit Conti. Take a left on Conti till you get to Rampart. Rampart has the stop light. Take a right on Rampart and it will be down a few blocks on the right. Its just a door going into an old building. If you walk it stay on the sidewalk. If you were to go straight when you get to Rampart you will run into St. Louis #1. Marie Laveau is entombed there. If you go to either one of these it is best to do it as a group for safety reasons if you have never been there.

I was wondering what the safety issues with St. Louis #1, or any of the other cemetaries would be during mid-afternoon hours?
We'd like to be able to wander at our own pace around the cemetaries & I am curious as to how dangerous or unsafe this might be.
|
Cartomancer Arch Sire (194) Posts: 1,252 Honor: 40,669 [ Give / Take ] |
Vespers, all is safe I would say. I have walked those cemetaries on many occassions during the day with my family- they lock it up at night.
What would be a good graveyard tour? I know I'm "itching" to goto one... should we look into booking a group now or just wait till same day?
I don't know how quickly these things book in advance.
I'm just going to wander around. I suck at going on tours, I either want to stay longer or I get impatient...
Hey if Images and I stand on either side you'll be trapped! Ha, that would be a great way to do a tour... goto one bar, then one graveyard, one bar, another graveyard... until we can't figure out which is which~! :P
I agree with Images about the cemetaries except for St. Louis #! where Marie Leveau is entombed. Would recommend that one with a group. The ones at the end of Canal are very safe and no problems. I have never had any problems at St. Louis #1 but then again, no one really wants to jack with an old school biker jacked up on rum!! lol All will have a great time! Lots of history and lots of pride running through the city. I've been to many places and this is with out a doubt the greatest city in the world! Only other city that would even come close, strictly in my opinion, would be Paris. Hope every one has a great time!!! As for me, I'm leaving in the morning to the Cresent City!!!!!!!!! :)
I'm pretty sure me and Drew are up for a lot of it. We aren't rich either so the "cheap" route is great. We'll be staying at the hotel. Should we all put in some kind of meet up time and place to get together and do all this?
Thank you for putting my thread post in this one! I was hoping I wouldn't have to copy and paste it.
How about we meet at that old bar, since everyone seems to know about it and like it? We are going to be in town Thursday afternoon sometime, checking in. We will have been driving for 16 hours in a cramped Honda, so we will need to sleep for awhile, but maybe meet up later for a bit? Or not, whatever...I can't tell what kind of state I will be in. Frazzled I imagine. And sleep deprived. Is it an 18 bar? My daughter will be with us.
I want to go to the cemeteries really badly. I want to go to the two oldest, the LaFayette number 1 and St. Louis 1. I read that they close at 3pm! We are night people so this is going to be hard to do, plus the best ghost pictures are done at night. =( But we are going anyway. I am hoping it will be safe. We have already talked about taking off all jewelry and no purse carrying. I keep reading about how dangerous it is and muggers around every corner. I sure hope that isn't true. I will have my cameras though. =)
PS-- I don't see meeting up with others too as taking sides or being against Rave or Cancer. We all come here. It's not even about Rave or Cancer, it's about meeting up with friends. It's a rare opportunity. =)
I had thought about this actually, in January when contemplating the amount of money it was going to take to book the room, etc. I was thinking of just going there and meeting up with people later or something. But I was told the rooms were so high dollar and I wouldn't be able to get in, etc. and I got scared. So we about maxed out our credit card to get the room and book it. We are going to be paying on this trip for a few years probably.
We are using our stimulus check to pay for gas to get there and back. So we have moved around money and all that to get there and hopefully have a great time. This is our vacation. And to me, that's what it's about, not some drama about who's friends with who and all that and if you are friends with this person you don't like me, and all that grade school shit. hahaha.....
*Seems I love to be ignored, so I will just babble on and stop posting from here on out.*
I mentioned in a post above that had the wrong html coding for links to the Haunted History Tours, which are the No.1 Tours in the city for walking tours. You may peruse their website at www.hauntedhistorytours.com for more information.
The only reason why I am not going to the meetup, nor meeting anyone from the Rave...Since there seems to be way to much mediocre drama and mass conflict between you all, then this may indeed be my last post.
I do not see why a couple of individuals including myself should have to pay ANYTHING to join a meetup in OUR city. In my point of view, we should at least have the courtesy of being somewhat VIP in welcoming all who are going to the meetup to OUR city. Which is why I have neither payed for a TICKET, nor requested or answered requests pertaining to any other subsequent meeting places aside from the original meetup.
I do take great pride in this city, but for those who come here to respectfully meetup with others, this is encouraged. But, do not exploit OUR city further than what it has been since KATRINA! We, this fine city have had quite enough exploitation for one decade, then to be mocked as both a city that time forgot as well as an EX-Vampiric city. Please, when you get here, do not make your meetup to be another ENDLESS NIGHTS disaster. Leave that up to one AARON TODD HOYT and his New York style to bombard. Please, once again...Respect our city and enjoy your stay.
That is all.
Can we please, please, please, please, please, please just stop with the drama? Make journal entries, message people individually, we're all getting what we want and we're all paying the costs we set up for ourselves. Some of us managed a cheaper route, others had to fork out a little bit more for a little less time. We can take our pictures, we can have a good time, we can meet up with friends and hopefully make a few more along the way. Why is that so difficult for some people to grasp.
There are going to be quite a few people there that will not tolerate this kind of behavior. Making yourself a victim will only get you left out of any fun we would otherwise have offered to share with you.
This meet is exactly like Jaime said. We're here to have a damn good time with the people we can only meet up with online otherwise. We're here to make some friends out of the people we barely know.
Please people, stop playing the victim and keep the drama to yourself.
Very well put NightBlossom, thank you.
I'm going to make note of all places named and links given so we have a big pile of awesomeness to choose from. Thanks to everyone for posting and keep it up if you have any other ideas!
Since there has been a solution to the problems mentioned, let's get back to the fun stuff of what to do with our free time ^.^
I know there have been several ideas posted already and I know that the Hedgewitch also posted some others? Any plans firm *aside from the yummy breakfast* a go?
Well we are definitely going to the two oldest cemeteries, Lafeyette 1 and St. Louis 1 and the old bar on Bourbon street. We might go to it both nights. See it depends on what else we see. But I heard it was haunted, and being avid ghost hunters, we are going to have to go and take pics. I don't know when though. I am not sure if we will try to do it Friday or Saturday. It will really depend on how much sleep we can get. See, Danny works nights and we will be traveling all night after being awake for awhile before that, so not sure how we will feel.
I know this doesn't concern you. haha.....just telling you where we will be "coming from", fuction wise and if I don't get enough sleep, I get panic attacks and shaky.
Basically I am just concerned that we won't be able to get the stuff done that we want to while there. I mean, if we are up in the day to look over New Orleans and shop for souveniers, when do we sleep, when we are hanging out? haha.......just a practical thought. Just a concern of mine. It always is wherever I go that is not home. You know how it is trying to sleep away from home.
Be advised-------that if you are around me, I will take pictures. =)
I'm thinking that since some of us are going to the events...most if not all, we should plan some of the things we want to do after the preplanned events. Cemetary tours after 10 if possible. Bars after 10. Etc. As long as we're in bed by 3am and up by 9 or 10 in the morning, there shouldn't be too much worry as to getting things done.
Not to mention we'll have Sahahria with us...I've never seen anyone plan things more thoroughly than her.
Not to be the sour puss here, but the cemetaries are open no later than 3:30. This includes all cemetaries, not just the inner city cemetaries.
HEY! I resemble that... and interestingly, I have only planned this trip to the extent of I know where and with who I'm staying, what I'm wearing and how to get to the airport and back- aren't you proud of me?! ^.^
What time do the graveyards open SoulShroud? Perhaps early early am tour before people pass out followed by a breakfast? I've heard twilight is an excellent time to find things.
Well, usually the cemetaries open up between 8 AM and 9 AM.
But, the tours themselves from my company start at 10 AM as well as 1:15 PM respectively.
You can find more information Here
Hopefully this link works, otherwise, just visit www.hauntedhistorytours.com/Voodoo.htm for more information.
Thankyou for the request by the way Saha.
See and that was all you needed to do...until now. Mwahahahahaha!
Maybe we could do our own tour of the cemetaries when they open early am? That way we do it on our own time or just go to the 1:15 tour.

So far it sounds like we'll have some people meeting up at The Trolley Stop around 10:30AM on Saturday, and Lafittes Blacksmith Shop perhaps Saturday night...
...this was really what I wanted out of this thread. Sorry about the thread topic but at the time I posted it I thought I was already shut-out from all the events. After I posted it I realized I could still attend some events without doing the whole hotel and dinner, etc...
So I will be attending the ball Saturday night.

Rock on :) I also made adjustments to my decisions and will be attending the ball. And I will definitely be going to 2 places mentioned above.
The only definite plans I've made are to be at the ball, but I'm also sharing a rental car with Birra and Morrigon. So basically where ever they go on Saturday and Sunday, I'm tagging along for the ride :p.
How about any must see/go metaphysical shops for us witches? Oh, and I need to find a shot glass to add to my collection.
I'm flying in at 9:45 Saturday morning so I think I can make breakfast. YAY!
For the metaphysical side of things, there are a couple of shops..."Esoterica" being the main one, without all the shameless commercial advertising of false voodoo.
"Esoterica" is located on the corner of Royal and Dumaine streets.
Another would be "Voodoo Authentica", located one block up from "Esoterica" on Dumaine st.
One hard to find hole in the wall that I cannot remember the name of is located on Royal st. This shop has a small white sign above it.
The other shops that have entertainment value when it comes to the metaphysics, are "Reverend Zombies Voodoo Shop" located in the middle of St. Peter just across from Pat 'O Brians, which is where the Haunted History Tours welcomes its guests.
Marie LaVeau's Voodoo shop on Bourbon and St. Philip. Which has a picture of Marie Laveau as well as trinkets for whatever.
Directly across from Marie's shop, there is a little boutique up some stairs that has a bit more trinkets as well as books, plus "professional readings" done by its staff. Don't let the figurines fool you, the shop is quite nice and not that much of a novelty shop. Well, some of it anywho.
As always, I am here for advice...Feel free.

9:45 Saturday morning? There goes my intentions of sleeping in until 10!
Just kidding - Morri and I are more than happy to share the weekend with you. But depending on how on-time your flight is, we might be running a bit behind for that breakfast.
Images - save us some seats at your table please?
I plan on being there too and eatin yer share of food *MWAhahahaha*
I think it would be great to take some time and hit the "touristy" type of shops too. Also for those that wanted I was doing fitness walks in the morning before breakfast (even when I stay at a hotel I miss getting breakfast as by the time I'm ready it's gone *le tear*).
So anyone that wants to go a walkin with me can, everything I do is altered based off of fitness level that you are at now. And yes Nightblossom it is safe for you :P I plan on still forcing you to come with us, because I'm evil that way!
O.o
Damn, I'm planning again aren't I?! *kicks at the comment of me being planner grrrrr*

That's ok, we appreciate your planning - and trying to keep up with you on a walking tour of the city will definitely be a work out for some of us...
In my case, a much needed workout!
I'm still going don't worry. Otherwise I won't get out of bed until Drew does and with his sleep habits, that might not be until an hour before whatever event we've already paid for.
Anyone wanna watch me straighten Drew's hair?
So who is typing up the events list for the day, Sahahria?
I am planning on that bar too, and I suppose I will go Saturday night then, with you all.
Now Fri-DAY, and maybe Saturday, we will probably go to the cemeteries and shop. I am big on souveniers, so we were going to go to the French Market, where there are tons of touristy places to go. At least, that is what Danny found online. It's not far from our Hotel, either. Yay that!
Really, it's going to depend on how we feel and the heat level. It's been over 100 here everyday and it's dangerous, and drains you immediately. So that will have something to do with outdoor activities too. I guess we might think about going to the cemeteries in the morning.
What time do the stores close? Anything open later than 5 or 6pm?
I wonder if I will see any of you around? =
Checking weather.com. Looks like there's chances of rain. But mainly about 30%. Not bad. And hell, it's cooler there than here in Oklahoma. Wonder about the humidity.

Thanks to Hurricane Dolly, we have been getting hit by the aftermath "wake" in words. Scattered showers for the rest of the week until sunday, so I hope most if not all of you bring your brollies. Though throughout the day, it gets very humid here, so hot and rainy...Hell of a day or night. A clue to the showers is the thunder and lightning before the heavy rain, so be forewarned.
Shops as mentioned earlier close just before dusk usually. This does not include the touristy shops, just the retail shops. The River Walk Mall always closes at either 8 or 9 in the PM.
Other than that, all querries are welcome.

Not too bad... I'm sure we'll deal with the heat. I went to Savannah in June '07 and it was high-90's and 182,000% hummidity...
I'm flying in (*knocks on wood*) Friday morning so I too will be looking for something to do on Friday afternoon/evening.
Suggestions for Lunch, Dinner, walkabout etc.. would be appreciated.

For me, I probably will not be able to eat out so many times. I am in a situation here where we are supporting another adult and just lost 2 jobs. :( I'll be eating at home.
You guys have no choice to eat out though- you don't live here :P
Considering it's a direct flight it should be on time...considering it's flying out of Philly....
Thanks for the suggestions SoulShroude!
Yay to breakfast with our fearless leader!
Saharia, will you be doing a walk Sunday morning? I may be up for it depending on how bad the hangover is :p
Yes I was planning on walks everyday, I think it's a good way to keep moving and also see the areas you want to go back and "shoot" :)

And who said there was nothing to be learned from this forum? :P
I will not be drinking alcoholic beverages. I am not 'above' it... just lean a bit towards 'drinking way too much' in situations such as these. And it's not funny or a good time- so keep that in mind when I am drinking soda :D
Haha, yea, Images, same here. I tend to get bold and will do dares, so I dunno about that. Besides, I don't like feeling like shit the next day. I am going to have to find me an Icee source somewhere. Can anyone tell me where to find an Icee in the Quarters? I have a one a day habit, peeps.
I won't be drinking either, I tend to do stupid things, like falling through windows when I drink. However, baby comes first and Drew would kill me.

Getting stupid drunk is off the menu for me too as it usually leads to someone having to hold my hair back... That doesn't mean I won't be drinking. Morri and I have some tequila shots to do. :D
Good idea Sahahria. Just let me know when and where. :)

birra Venerable Sire (132) Posts: 463 Honor: 50 [ Give / Take ] |
Yeah.. no stupid drunk. We're going to have fun, not forget everything.
The time for stupid drunk is on the flight down.. heh. Kidding!
Awww I was going to say stupid drunk is fun when it's not you! Esp the next day exercising *snicker*
Can I have a glass of wine at least???
K folks, I sent out a message to quite a few people with mine and Drew's numbers in it. We'll prolly be getting to the hotel around check in time if not earlier.
I used my real name in said message so you have something to call me by. Or you can just do what Sahahria did and continue to call and introduce me as NightBlossom for at least 2 weeks.
If anyone wanted the numbers and didn't get em, I'll be logging in at least one more time before we leave tomorrow night around 5, leave me a message.

HEY! You're not supposed to tell them that! Brat... good thing you're prego or I'd have to make you really hurt ;)
Wait a minute...Did I miss something? Since when is Birra prego?
