I was talking to someone about the VR meetups and it occurred to me that I haven't heard anything about the big VR meetup for this year. So what's the deal?
In my personal opinion, there are far too many "kids" on VR for another meetup to happen. The adults are fine, but the kids... Really now? A gothic cruise? They could never afford it.
would many kids turn up in the USA? I know in the UK they probably wouldnt, maybe one or two who live down the end of the venue street maybe but the rest wouldnt
true, kids can put a damper on things, expecially adult fun :p

No kids showed up to New Orleans in 2008 for the meetup and nothing's really changed since then. We've always had kids here- they don't come to these gatherings, ever.
in the past there has been large groups of members of vr at bat's day.....
Putting the snobbishness aside, there are many many adults here, not just "kids".
It isn't difficult to plan an event for 18+. It is tough to find a place that people are willing to journey too as we are worldwide.
Most adults can't afford a cruise either.
I agree, I know I can't afford a cruise lol
It would be fun to meet in NYC I'm going to the Vampire Ball next month.
getting together a sub culture of mostly anti-social individuals almost never works. i tried to get a meet up going on a group i was in on vampirefreaks. it never happened, 400 plus members no one interested in finding time to have a party.
While I'm glad people are responding, none of this is an answer to the question I posed. Does anyone know what's up with the big 2010 VR meetup? Is there even one this year?

i think the general idea is to have regional meet ups!! as this is an international site it wouldnt be very realistic to expect everyone to meet up in another country , so the regional meetups look like the way to go!! in th UK memebers thread is a proposed meet up for october this year!! at the whitby gothic weekend!! so maybe the American members can arrange a meet up ta one of the events in the usa??
Regional meetups would be much more realistic, like East Coast, Mid-America and West Coast or somethin like that.
yeah same as north and south UK !! much more realistic!!
How about we do two meet ups one for adults and one for the kids..?Could we do them in NYC maybe?
I think it would be good to have the next Vampire Rave meetup in Europe I think considering the past two have been in the USA ..
Yep, no way we could afford a cruise. I get motion sickness anyway....easily. Hell, we are still paying for the New Orleans trip. Credit cards charge 26% interest, so 50-100 payments, actually put about 20 towards the bill. Oi.
I would love to see everyone again though. You guys rocked.
I still vote for Eureka Springs, Arkansas, at the Crescent Hotel. Haunted. Has a morgue in the basement. Morris the cat lived there. It's huge and we are PLANNING on going there in May.
Having one in Europe sounds like a great idea!! I am up for a party over seas!
If the meetup's occur in several different areas of the world for VR members, more members would attend because the costs would be significantly lowered, thus, one meetup for everytime time-zone across the continents. And the members that could afford to travel could select the meetup they would like to attend.
I am all up for a meetup anywhere in the USA.
but let me just give you some info on cruises............they are NOT for rich people only, depending on what time of the year/season you go......you can get really cheap rates that include your meals!!!
went in December one year and paid $250 for a 7-day cruise including my meals.
just needed spendng money for shopping and alcohol.
also............if it is planned ahead, you can get group rates...........the larger group that book the larger the discounts.
there are all kind of package deals that cruiselines and travel agents offer that include airflights as well.........granted if you plan for the high season in the summer, the rates are gonna be higher.
anyway........I am up for a meetup, like the haunted hotel suggestion.
either way I will probably spend the same amount flying, boarding, and food to go there or any location in the US as I would on a cruise.
Greetings Darklings,
I am up for just about any meet up we can scrounge together.
I LOVE The Crescent and have stayed there several times before, but not sure how even the open arms of Eureka Springs would handle the fangs of a vampire meetup.
The Goth Cruise out of Miami on the week of September 25 has many open slots from the small more econo cabins to the higher end balcony staterooms. Not to mention Taboo 5 will be held on board featuring My crew and our props. (SO I HIGHLY recommend the cruise) Just message me and I can forward more info if you are interested.
As far as on a monthly basis we host The Gathering every 3rd Saturday of the month at The Castle in Ybor City (Tampa, Florida). This is a great place to meet Vampires and learn in a friendly atmosphere. Again, message me for more information.
I am very excited to have a chance to meet some of my VR friends!
Hugs and nibbles!!!
I would encourage regional meetups on a broader scale: east coast, west coast, northern and southern as well as meetups across the globe.
Perhaps less difficult than getting people to show is getting people who are competent and willing to put effort into organizing events and making the meetup appealing enough that people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on.
Far more goes into a cruise than just the price it takes to get on board. You have to keep in mind that people often must book flights and that alone can cause a $250 trip to easily reach well over $600. If couples are planning on attending, you may be looking at a meetup cost of $1,200 and while Vampire Rave is awesome, I’m not sure how many people are willing to lay down that much money.
Yes I think regional would be the way to go as well...I am on the east coast tri state area so TN NC KY are the closest to me since I moved to Tn
I'm all for a meet up but I've noticed the issue is even getting people in Michigan together where it's only a 3-6 hour drive tops with no real big expenses is frigging tough.
what may be the best way to do this is to set up meetups in each state (for the u.s.) or province (canada) and each country for the rest of the world
yeah thats 1 way to do it batt,I am still working on one for Illinois
i would love to get people together for something, but cali is big and people are scattered......
but it seems that people do meet up for bat's day.
and with nova next month in the east bay, it would be cool to have some more vr members there.
I didn't know about the VR 2010 meeting. So I have no knowledge of what is to come.
Wow, agreeing with slavekitiria, cruises are totally not for quote " CRUISES ARE FOR RICH SNOBS" Um, obviously never been on a cruise....The Goth cruise is expensive as far as cruises go. Even with the all inclusive alcohol package! Not everyone drinks, or drinks that much! There should be a dup package for the non drinkers on the Goth cruise! And yes I can make that statement being on 2 goth cruises! And other non goth cruises.... So I am down for a meet up wherever....
I'm in ohio, so Michigan wouldn't be that big of a drive or bus ride for me, let me know more so we can see what we can do. I have friends that are into the scene near here.
We're moving into the topic of state by state topics and people are listing where they are located, which doesn't have much to do with the original topic of this thread.
As previously stated, there is no current official VR 2010 Meetup planned.
